Thursday Before Two

Has anyone ever wondered why Thursday Before Two was chosen as the end time for the week in the Sea Org (and other SCI Organizations) for production and statistics?

It was long and longer a source of distress for me, and I am sure many others.

I was so grateful once off staff / Sea Org that this particular thing no longer mattered in my life.

I decided to google this term, "Thursday Before Two" and found an interesting result here:A History of the Royal Society: With Memoirs of the Presidents, Also the Oxford Society

https://books.google.com.br/books?id=-cLu2fxISZUC&pg=PA34&lpg=PA34&dq=%22thursday+before+two%22+history&source=bl&ots=9Iehs_75iC&sig=KT8vv7ZQFSMp3FT5G8Ig8LkuS3A&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjAsYWYiNLJAhWI5xoKHdRZDLYQ6AEIHDAA#v=onepage&q=%22thursday%20before%20two%22%20history&f=false

Do you think this is where the concept / idea may have originated? Was it 'borrowed' from the "Royal Society"? I have no clue what this was but it looks fascinating and was from the 1600's to the 1800's

https://books.google.com.br/books?i...day+before+two"+history&source=gbs_navlinks_s

Does anyone know the inside Story on this?

Today it is Thursday Before Two and I am so grateful to NOT have been up all night, on a stat push or otherwise.

Any good or horrible Thursday Before Two stories? I have too many to even know where to begin.

There's an old PL explaining why Thursday 2pm. From memory, it was in the days of Monday-Friday operations with the weekends off. Hubbard decided that ending the week at Friday 6pm (when everyone jacked it in for the weekend) meant that Monday was tied up with stat-gathering and evaluation and meetings, and it could be later on Tuesday before people got into producing for the week.

I'm not defending his logic here, just being the messenger. If I can be bothered to try and find the PL I'll post it.

EDIT: Couldn't find it with my shitty old policy index etc.

I don't know about that HCOPL that Paul is thinking of, but. . .

Logically, Thursday 2pm is exactly the half-way point of the week.

7 days in a week.

Ergo, 3.5 days is the precise midpoint.

MONDAY, TUESDAY, WEDS = 3 days.

Thursday workday is 9-6 with one hour lunch. Therefore 2pm has four hours of production time both before and after.

Thursday 2pm is then the middle the of the week, chosen, I feel quite sure, because Hubbard did not want any "slowdowns" ever. The midpoint does not have a weekend or a break.

Once you hit 2pm and tally your statistics, you then need to make an instant running start at the new week which is already moving ahead at an alarming pace. There is no time to think of "relaxing over the weekend" because you are competing against the previous week which didn't have a weekend.

It's some kind of production trick to keep slaves working 24/7 without giving them any sense of time or (gasp!) personal time. Like a casino without windows. Nobody knows the time and they ply the gamblers with free drinks so they get drunk, gamble all night and leave all their money in the casino owner's pocket.

Likewise in a Scientology org--there is no sense of time and you are fed endless liquid intoxicants (kool-aid). And all donations end up in the casino owner's pocket.

By any chance, can you locate Hubbard's indignant statement on Scientologists going bowling?

I Googled scientology bowling horse-racing and there it is. :)

http://scientology101.org/scientology-secrets/a-culture-is-born/ron-the-hypnotist/

In an org, this manifests itself with ‘people should live a little.’ ‘One needs a rest from Scientology.’ ‘One should do something else, too’. All that kind of jazz.

Ask what they do the other nights. Bowling. Horse racing.

Boy, you better maul the case folders of staff. You have a suppressive aboard. Maybe six.

Scientology, that saves lives, is a modern miracle, is being compared to bowling. Get it?

That org or portion just isn’t serious. Scientology is an idle club to it, an old lady’s sewing circle.

Didn't it also mention Horse Racing? Was it one of the KSW ones?

Kindly allow me to extend Hubbard's list of things he condemned as abominably unproductive dilettante activities.

Horse racing

I remember it that way too. The rationale was to not interrupt the momentum of the week. Thursday 2pm they figured the stats, made the battle-plans for the new week, and started rolling on Friday.

Never really thought about the rationale behind it. But I will say when I read the post title, I had a small physical reaction.

And I thought about all the "thursday before two" tricks that we all thought up.

Letters Out or Bulk Mail Out meant they were in someone's car before two. Or at least on the sidewalk outside the org, waiting to go into someone's car. I'd often be at the post office till 4 or 5 pm on Thursday taking care of the mail that was counted on the previous week's stats. Half the time, I'd go to the post office with a big bag of letters, buy the stamps, stamp them all and mail them, all after 2. I also remember plenty of times sorting and bundling bulk mail at the post office on Thursday afternoon.

I know there were similar tricks with income. Creative invoicing, etc. I'm sure other divs had their tricks too. Any examples?

Tricks for stats hmmm will have to think about that... My adverse physical and mental reactions to thinking about it comes from the constant all-nighters... burn the midnight oils, make it go right, etc etc etc EVERYTHING was an emergency... 'hill 10' etc barf barf barf

Even at that time I had huge disagreements with both the challenge of studying for comps violating at the time, in my eyes, student policies, and good study behaviours.

Also even with work, menial or otherwise, mistakes are pretty much guaranteed to be made on no to little sleep... oh wait mistakes are from PTS... oh wait... fuck... lol

I remember a co-worker (is that what it should be called even?) falling asleep on the toilet. was so jelly...

And now, we will briefly break for a word from our sponsor, Dr. L. Ron Hubbard, world-famous nuclear physicist who discovered the Hubbard Law of Commotion[SUP]*[/SUP].

What Dr. Hubbard States:
If Scientologists are spending any time on horse racing or bowling, "...you have an SP aboard. Maybe six."

What would Dr. Hubbard Do?:
Immediately route the public PC to the MAA to slam their ethics in with conditions, amends projects, increased tech estimates and/or threats that they will not be accepted for advanced levels due to their lack of contribution and "dilettantism". Declare the six SPs and expel them from staff with correspondent "Disconnection" action taken by all of their friends, family and business associates.

However, although the above may be 100% true and correct, let's examine the other side of this situation which is also 100% correct. Only then can one really appreciate how otherworldly advanced Scientology's technology is, in order to achieve the unprecedented level of 200% correct!

Let's assume that we are in the same org with the same staff members. And likewise, they allow a public individual to spend time on bowling or horse racing. Except, maybe the former is the world's #1 bowler, rich and famous as hell. And the latter is someone like superstar racing jockey John Velazquez whose earnings topped a half-billion dollars!

Then what?

What Dr. Hubbard States:
If rich Scientologists are spending any time on horse racing or bowling, "...you have a Kha-Khan aboard. Maybe a Kha-Ching."

What would Dr. Hubbard Do?:
Ensure the bowler was on the cover of Celebrity Magazine and provided VIP front row seats at all events. Award the jockey the Freedom Medal of Humanitarian Dauntlessness. Declare as SP any staff member that ever put CI, inval or eval on the jockey's lines about him spending 60 hours a week on horse racing. Then have COB present a custom 30 minute video presentation that showcases all his racing highlights. And every time in the glitzy promo footage shows him crossing the finish line first--COB's voice booms out: "And THAT is called making planetary Clearing A Reality!"

[SUP]*[/SUP] Hubbard's Law of Commotion: A curious cultic corollary of Newton's 3rd Law of Motion, stating that: For each and every Scientology policy, code or piece of tech--there is an equal and opposite policy, code or piece of tech.

We had one of those briefings that SO used to do to PR LRH and he said that it originated so telexes could get across to SH and stats compiled back when they took a long time to go overseas. But, I don't take anything said by those guys as gospel, ad I've since learned so much of it total BS.

Oh! That reminded me of easily repeatable program targets completed for stats!! Before Two!! The ones where you could just like read a quote to the staff or whatever... or Clean the Ron's Office, if an LC.

Well I do have a happy tale -- on my one trip to Flag, which was horrible, I finished up on Wednesday and was handed the big routing form for leaving. I ran most of the gauntlet that night, slept in the next day and headed for the regges with fear pounding in my chest ... and the huge reg office was empty!! I flagged someone down to sign me off and I was outta there ... I had arrived on Thursday at 2:30! What a relief.

PS upthread HelluvaHoax refers to the status of Kha-Ching ... I laughed and laughed. Thanks for your endless inventiveness HH.
