Finally able to fully come out...

I’ve had a close friend who until last week was still active with the Church. Because of our friendship I’ve keep my identity hidden so as to not create issues for him while in the Church. Now that he is out, I no longer have any current friends who can be manipulated by the Church so I’m free to say who I am.

My name is Ron Minor. I first became involved with Scientology in 1974. After a year as a public I joined staff in Las Vegas where I remained until 1983. I did rejoin staff in 1990 but could not handle it anymore and left in 1992 for good.

My basic story is pretty average for anyone that has been in a Cl V org. I’ve held many technical posts and been to Flag twice, 1st for the Staff Section Officer training (6 months) and 2nd for the Pro TR’s pilot (was told would be one week which turned into 2 months before I created a PTS situation in order to get back home.)

Never had a desire to join the sea org and after being at Flag was thankful that I never had joined. Did have a few interesting experiences while on staff in las vegas. The week that Quentin was discovered unconscious in a car had the GO and the org in quite a stir. Another time when I had one of Nibs daughters come into the org asking to meet her grandfather LRH. Our Commanding Officer, Bob Harvey was quite a character. I heard towards the end of his Sea Org days, he would dress in the full costume of a Bishop (of the catholic church) and claim LRH had assigned him the post of Bishop of the COS.

It’s nice to be fully out now and if anyone from old LV org is on the board, I would love to hear from you.

Welcome to the site, Ron.

I had nothing to do with LV but spent time with Harvey -- what a hoot. He would have made a good CofS Bishop. Wonder if he's still alive and/or what he's been up to.

It was quite a sight seeing him wearing the bishops hat. I believe that he has passed along years ago, but I have no details. I ran into his ex-wife Loretta, a few years ago at AOLA.

Yay, BAYCB!!!

Good to see you able to speak up now.

Isn't it interesting that a group exists in the United States which threatens people who exercise their freedom of speech and freedom of religion?

I find that quite disturbing.

Thanks, it is nice to be able to finally speak up. The really sad part of this episode is how my friend was threaten when he finally came out to an old sea org friend. :omg: But I'll let him tell this story when he starts to post here at ESMB.

Hi Mr. Minor. Good to have you here.

I met Bob the Harvey in the late 50s. What a nut case! But I liked him. Later he tried so so hard to be a good Sea Aaaaaaarrrrrrgh guy. I hope he never succeeded.

I knew Bob Harvey

Hi Ron!
Interesting to read your story. I do not know you but I have a couple of ties to the Las Vegas Org going back to the 1970's. I joined C of S in June 1970 at the LA Org and transfered to CCLA around October of 1970. I hoined the Sea Org at CCLA in late 1971. Sometime around the Spring of 1972 Bob Harvey came to CCLA on some kind of mission to establish the ESTO system at CCLA and I believe in other PAC Orgs. At the time, I was in CCLA Treasury Division and was doing well and I was picked to be the Treasury ESTO for CCLA. One new ESTO for each Division I thru VII was picked and we went to the old ASHO to meet with Bob Harvey. There were only two or perhaps three meetings with Bob and then suddenly the entire program was dismantled and Bob disappeared from CCLA with no mention or explanation given to the staff or the new ESTO candidates for that matter. If you know why the program ended instantly and Bob disappeared, please let me know.
That is one area where I was never able to find out what happened.

I loved working with Bob Harvey, he was very friendly and down to Earth and was always at a high tone level. He liked me very much and gave Yvonne Jentzch glowing reports on how able and eager to learn I was. It turned out that only he and an older man named Andy who was sent by the Guardians Office to CCLA and Irene Dirmann (then Irene Howey) were the only three execs who thought highly of me, most of the others disliked me. I remember well the meetings with Bob. He talked about the concept of ""thetan, mind and body" and how it applied to every post and sub post among other things. I thought he was called the Cardinal of Scientology and not Bishop but you are probably right. being closer to the scene.

The Las Vegas people I knew from CCLA were Betty and Jon Murakami, who held down Div 2 at CCLA before moving to Las Vegas where Betty became the ED. Jon had been a trumpet player in Las Vegas before joining staff, I believe. Then there was Jim Cowger, another trumpet player from Las Vegas who joined CCLA staff. There was a bigger named trumpet player, Bobby something, (I don't recall his last name) and I believe Jim was in his band.
Finally there was Eddie Rabin, who was a billiards player who won the American Billiards championship in 1973 while on CCLA staff. When Eddie left staff, he went back to dealing craps at the penthouse of a large casino, I believe the Desert Inn. He was a dealer for the "high roller" VIP guests at a very high limit table, and made enough on tips in one year to pay for all his OT levels around 1977. I was a student of the Thorpe 10 count blackjack sytem in the sixties and could count down a deck of cards while playing blackjack. After I left the Sea Org in late 1973, I began going up to Las Vegas to play blackjack about once a month. I looked up the Murakami's several times when I went up there.

By the way, Jim Cowger was given a post to promote a new revolutionary technology LRH had developed in the late 1970's which was supposed to drive droves of people into Scientology. Jim spoke of this new technology at every event, starting around 1978. What technology was this? Yep, it was Super Power! 31 years later and it still has not been released!! I am good friends with a couple who are still active in C of S and like you were, I am reluctant to give out my name. I hope you can shed some light on why Bob Harvey was yanked out of L.A. while he was setting up the ESTO program.

Hi Ron and welcome to the board. I don't remember your name but I was at LV Org part of '78 and part of '79. I was not staff, but was working for the GO and trying to get qualified to be on staff in the GO. I worked with Carol Garrity who was the PR at the time. I remember her husband's name was Paul and I think he was on foundation staff?

Anyway, glad you're out.

Hi Ron, Welcome to ESMB! :D

I'm glad that you are now free to say who you are and that you are here. No doubt there'll be people you'll meet up with, who you used to know, and that can be a wonderful thing! :happydance:
