:hysterical:

I instantly thought of the McDonalds sign. "Over 1 billion served". A good number when calculating over the past 64 years the number of times Scientologists and their enemies have been served law suits and subpoenas. So I started to do a shoop of it...

I got as far as changing the McDonalds sign to "McRonalds" and then was suddenly interrupted by an urgent cycle so I didn't complete it. (I had to go into a different room because I thought there might be something good on TV) lolololol.

semantics.

over 1 billion served vs

how many satisfied?

Every single time? One was served?

:roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao:

somebody once said, you can't please everybody all the time.

actually,

the amount of "clears" is growing,

as they are clearing out of scientology, as evident by the numbers of people speaking out now.

Now this is a definition of "clear" which really works, is proven to exist and the evidence of that existence has been subjected successfully to peer review over and over again. I'll take this Clear anyday over that fantasy described in Dianetics.

Scholarship around new religions has come under tremendous suspicion due to scholars whose research is perceived as collaborative with those new religions.

Some specific assumptions, behaviors and incidents have brought NRM scholarship under fire. One of the most egregious examples of cult apologetics was the behavior/missteps of a few NRM scholars in connection with the sarin bombing in Tokyo in 1995 by Aum Shinrikyo. NRM scholar Gordon Melton was at the very center of that clusterfuck.

Much of this criticism comes from inside the NRM community. For those who think NRM scholarship is worthwhile, you will find this essay interesting:

"Dear Colleagues: Integrity and Suspicion in NRM Research" by Benjamin Beit-Hallahmi
At http://www.apologeticsindex.org/c59.html

In this essay, the author, an NRM scholar, roundly criticizes the entire NRM field for its lack of objectivity, conflicts of interest (including, but not limited to, financial ties to the NRMs they study), and creating a "happy consensus" about the NRMs they study that, instead, is "a rhetoric of advocacy, apologetics and propaganda."

It's really worth a read.

The essay also links to other worthwhile documents that argue that many NRM scholars (e.g., Jeffrey K. Hadden, who testified for the Church of Scientology in the CoS v. Jeffrey Fishman litigation) are shills through their unwillingness to evaluate or recognize cult attributes in religious movements, their collaboration with lawyers (like Kendrick Moxon, top Scientology lawyer for the CoS) and the compensation they receive from these NRMs in return for publishing, testifying as experts, attending and speaking at conferences, etc.

"Jeffrey K. Hadden and the Religious Movements Site"
at http://www.apologeticsindex.org/h14.html#memo

And if anyone is truly interested in scholarly religious studies, including new religions, you might like to know about this upcoming program at the University of Virginia:

J. Gordon Milton was on the $$$$$$payroll$$$$$$ of OSA INT to give religiosity credibility to the Church.
Religious scholars and experts were routinely hired for $$$$ in case they were needed to testify
*eccelsiastically* on the *religion* of Scientology.

Heck, for $25,000 many Scholars are willing to write a good thesis on how Religious a Religion is.
Hired professionals are always a part of Office of Special Affairs budget.

There is an interesting essay on James R. Lewis, another scholar who reversed his opinion of Scientology meeting with J. Gordon Melton here ~~
http://leavingscientology.wordpress.com/2011/01/19/an-open-letter-from-james-r-lewis/

Because of your previous positions in CO$ your statements re Melton receiving money from CO$ seem definitive.

Note that the essay you quote was by James R Lewis.

I put him and one of his grad students into contact with some russian RO members. His student is writing a thesis on the ROs.

Below an article by him from last year Where he concludes that CO$
is in severe decline, and in passing mentions ROs out produce CO$
in auditor training.

I've read Dead Agent packs that consisted of outrageous nonsense asserted by Melton as an "expert witness" for Scientology Inc.

Please don't derail this thread with your dopey admiration for someone who has contributed to hurting good people.

I've never read anything of Melton's and have no admiration dopey
or otherwise for him. I spoke to him for a few minutes
and gave him what I thought he needed, and hopefully wanted, Brennan's
essay on CO$ religious cloaking.

I'm friends with 3 NRM scholars and writers and they all are quite
critical of CO$. Along with the article TGI posted it seems that CO$
has passed its sell by date in Academia.

Okay, guys, here is Part 2 in my series on What is Wrong with Scientology, i.e. how it is ensuring it's own destruction. Comments and feedback welcome. I know sound is not awesome and that is my next learning curve :duh: and I swear I'll have it fixed by my next video (or at least bumped up in quality).

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOH0ur9zvUc

It's my plan to have these coming out every 7 days until done. There should be about 4-5 parts to this series as currently planned.

Good work. Your videos are by far the clearest and least dramatised explanation of Sci on the web. Your words and knowledge speak for themselves.

Fantastic! Thank you.

The subject matter and delivery are so riveting I didn't even notice the sound quality until I read this about half way through. And even then I didn't think it was bad. Really well done. Thank you.

Chris your videos are top notch, no drama, no bullshit, you just get right to point, clearly and concisely.

Hey guys, here is Part 3, just published today. I am particularly happy with this one. As I was researching the quotes and putting it together, it really hit me just how purposeful the whole Suppresive Person doctrine was and how craftily he worded the policies to mind bend Scientologists around the idea of enemies to the church who deserve whatever harsh treatment anyone wants to dish out to them. The whole thing was definitely no accident.

Brilliant! Concisely nails how the system is doomed and will collapse into its own black and white illogical cruel self.

Lying to self = self-delusion, cognitive dissonance and dissociation.

The fact that the scientology system is designed with full resistance to evolve tells us:

1. Hubbard was really stupid/arrogant; or
2. He didn't give a damn, knew the thing was bobby trapped and was laughing all the way to the bank (the one with the money); or
3. Both of the above.

It is not possible for scientology to go the long haul (longevity) in history. No matter what external pressures are placed upon the group, it will fade into an anachronistic heap. With external pressure the speed of extinction will increase.

Thank you so much Chris!

p.s. love the monkeys! :)

One of the things that woke me up was realizing that the "PTS/SP" and "Ethics" "techs" follow the "Brainwashing Manual" which was almost certainly written by Hubbard himself, given the vocabulary use, being all about creating a homogenous group living in a mental fishbowl by removal and quarantine of anyone who disagrees or protests or does anything but give their all to Hubbard, now Miscavige.
