Lester Roloff

For those people outside of the Fundy Christian world, Rev. Lester Roloff was one of the old-time travelling preachers of the 1940s and in the 1950s or 1960s he set up his "Roloff Homes" for "wayward" children; these were hard-core reformatories. These places were full of abuse (which you won't read about on Wikipedia because his flunkies monitor the entry on him); the most well-known was "Rebekah House", where 16 girls came forward in the early 1970s relating to authorities how they were whipped and handcuffed to drainpipes. These sort of Christian children's prisons still exist, but many have moved to South America to stay away from the law.

Here is an article on Roloff and a latter day version of him named "Dr." Jack Patterson:

"Dr." Patterson is a graduate of the unaccredited Hyles-Anderson College, an ultra-fundamentalist school which has produced a number of abusive crazies. Jack Hyles, the founder, was no nice guy himself.

Hi. I am new here, and for the present am not allowed to post links, according to the admin. I felt compelled to let you know that much more has been written about and mentioned on telelvision regarding Lester Roloff within the past year. If you were to google "CNN" AND "Hephzibah House" together, you will be led to a video from Anderson Cooper 360, aired in Sept. 2011 featuring one of the institutions modeled after the Roloff Homes. The director of Hephzibah House, Ron Williams is said to have been a student/employee and protoge' of Roloff's.

Also from it's publication released in June of 2011 (August Issue) Mother Jones Magazine ran a 6 pg. feature about the multitude of children's homes following the Roloff model right now. The numbers of these unlicensed and unregulated facilities operating RIGHT HERE in the United States, will astound you. The article was written by the author of the book "Quiverfull", Kathryn Joyce, who has also written for the New Yorker, Huffington Post, Alternet, etc.

From much research (and it's still going on) it's starting to look like Lester Roloff, back in the mid-sixties, was the man who discovered the fortune to be made taking troublesome kids away from their former lives, abusing, brainwashing and indoctrinating them into compliant little robots, so he could show them off at other churches to profess how successsful he was at it, and collect the "love offerings" he came there with his entourage to solicit. Roloff's legacy has continued for more than 30 yrs.

Just last month, a large group of former inmates of these type of schools convened in Long Beach, Ca. for the first ever Survivors of Institutional Abuse convention. Googling Nick Gaglia (filmmaker- Over The GW), Mark Levine (host of Inside Scoop), and Janja Lalich (Professor of Sociology) along with Survivors of Institutional Abuse will take you to highlights of this convention.

I hope this helps with any updates.
