Last weekend I have talked to people about childhood in Scientology. One person in the audience asked me about the behaviour of her daughter who is since 20 years in. On one of her visits, her grandchild has fallen from a chair. The kid cried, the mother let the kid fall again. She doesn't want that the kid getting engramms. Young kid in the age of two.

This behaviour was new to me. Hubbards advice is, if you look in the handbook, you let the kid cry until it laughs or it gets boring, without talking or speaking.... This should stop getting engramms. This is that what I have seen in the past and my knowledge.

Is there Hubbard wrong interpreted or is this the regular behaviour in some Orgs or Missions??? Anybody knows about this.

Sounds like some weird convolution of a Contact Assist.

yeah, i pictured kid falling out of chair, then mother pushing him out of chair until he stopped crying. weird.
plus, sympathy is bad in scn. so the kid isnt gonna get his boo boo kissed like a normal mommy would.

I was shown the same concept when I was a child. Yes, it is an assist. This was known by everyone in scientology that I knew at the time.

I hit my elbow on a bookshelf, and was told if I went right back to where I'd hit my elbow, and repeated it a few times, I'd be all better. Scientology is insane.

Have you hurt yourself again or have you got back to the place as in a normal Contact Assist? This child was hurt again.

The grandmother has met the kid a time later, it hurted again, stand up and laughed. The grandmother has said it was like a mask. It seems it was scared to get hurt again. :grouch:

I wonder me always, that I often don't know the name of the things, what happen to me as a kid. But this weird thing, with the hurting again, I really don't know and have never seen before. :nervous:

When you say "the mother let the kid fall again" that sounds like a fabrication. And does not sound like Hubbard to me
As far as "you let the kid cry until it laughs or it gets bored, without talking or speaking.... " that sounds like Hubbrad.

He is very "no Sympathy" about accidents. I don't think there is an absolute right way to handle that sort of thing. I can see his point, if you don't give attention for crying you may get less crying. I think that is about individual parenting styles. Maybe you want to kiss and hug your child every time he cries. There is probably a good middle ground. I don't know what is right.

There are many blatant terrible things about Scientology. I like to stick to those things.

tiny children, and I would include age two in that group, often look to their mommy to see if they are hurt. they depend on mommy, or daddy or whatever to be the gauge of how serious this thing that has just happened is. little people feel pain as very sharp, but often it goes away quickly, and in those moments they may look to the parent or caregiver to see how bad things are. but, hubbard had bad advise! what? we want children to grow up and remember that every time they were in pain their parents wouldn't speak to them, and often forced them to repeat the thing that made the pain. INSANITY. and mothers kiss, and SYMPATHY (yes, I said the dirty word) takes the pain away to a great degree. hubbard would say "do it for your poor auditor", it isn't as if he didn't understand this mechanism, (oh another dirty word). children are better when you kiss them and emphasize, because you love them and they know it. it's crap like this that makes me want to call hubbard a stupid Satanist, and he didn't even really understand Satanism properly. rest in hell, elron.

I understand; if I got punched in the face, I don't think that repeating the process will be of any benefit. Assists are a horrible joke. It's amazing to me there are a few stragglers left in scientology at all. However, in your case, that to me is an example of someone applying scientology to ... an obviously unwise extreme.

    Contact Assist

There is a basic principle in Scientology which consists of putting an injured body member exactly on and in the place it was injured. Doing this can have a therapeutic effect and is called a Contact Assist. This is the most common assist for accidents and injuries.

    Theory

One of the basics of life’s reactions is to avoid places where one has been hurt. This is a survival factor but it is not analytical (based on rational thought). For example, if one ran into a table and injured himself, he would tend to avoid coming near that spot again. He would think he was avoiding the table, but actually he is avoiding the exact location of the accident. Even if the table were taken away, he would continue to avoid the location where he was injured. This is the basic reason for a Contact Assist.

When the exact spot of the accident or injury is available, always do a Contact Assist. It can be followed by other types of assists, but the Contact Assist should always be done first if the physical objects and location are available.

    Procedure

    1. Remember that first aid and physical actions often have to be taken before a Contact Assist can be begun. First aid always comes first. Look over the situation from the standpoint of how much first aid is required, and when you have solved that situation, then render the assist. An assist will not shut off a pumping artery, but a tourniquet will.

    2. Take the person to the exact spot where the accident occurred. If the object was hot, you let it cool first; if the current was on, you turn it off before doing the assist.

    3. Tell the person, “We are now going to do a Contact Assist.”

    4. Have the person get into the same position he was in before the accident happened. If he had a tool in his hand, or was using one, he should be going through the same motions with it.

    5. Tell the person to move slowly through the accident just like it happened. Have him duplicate exactly what happened at the time of the injury by making him touch the exact spot with his injured body part. You have him gently touch the thing that hurt him. If he pricked his finger on a thorn in the rose garden, you get him to gently touch the same part of the same finger that was pricked to the same exact thorn. If he closed his hand in a door, you would have him go back and, with his injured hand, touch the exact spot on the same door, duplicating the same motions that occurred at the time of the injury. There are hardly any commands involved with it; the less you say, the better off you are.

    6. Repeat this over and over again until the exact somatic turns on and blows off-appears and then disappears. (In Scientology we use the word somatic to designate any body sensation, illness, pain or discomfort. Soma means “body” in Greek.)

In addition to the somatic blowing, the person will also have a realization about something: his injury or the circumstances related to how he got hurt or the environment. Such a realization is called a cognition.

You have to get him to touch the exact point to produce the exact phenomenon of the somatic blowing. When this occurs and he has a cognition, end the assist by telling the person, “End of assist.”

    Don’t Force the Person

A Contact Assist must sometimes be done on a gradient-with a gradual approach. Let’s say a child stubbed his shin on the lawn mower and now doesn’t want to come nearer than one hundred feet from that lawn mower. You would make him do a Contact Assist with his shin and body at that point (one hundred feet from the same lawn mower), having him go through the motions of the accident. Gradually, gradient by gradient, you narrow the distance that he is willing to approach it and eventually he will go up and do a Contact Assist on the lawn mower.

Have the person get into the same position he was in before the accident happened. Have him gently touch the thing that hurt him. If he had a tool in his hand, or was using one, he should be going through the same motions with it.

Repeat this over and over again until the exact somatic turns on and then blows off (pain gone) accompanied by a cognition. You have to get him to touch the exact point to produce this exact phenomenon.

You must never forcibly drag the person up to the spot where the injury or accident occurred. If you try to force the person, you could overwhelm him which could have a bad effect on him.

Contact Assists can be done solo (by oneself) but one must be sure to do it until the somatic blows.

Any type of injury can and should be handled with a Contact Assist. It is always the best type of injury assist when the exact spot is available and should precede any other assist actions. Contact Assists have unlimited use. They’re sometimes miraculous-but they always help.

If a person is injured, he can do a Contact Assist on himself. He gently duplicates exactly what happened at the time of the injury, taking care to continue until the pain dissipates.

Act on injury, other than that let the kid cry, but acknowledge the hurt and hold or hug the child, but try to identfy between crying for attention and emotion or and pain.

Stupid people will be stupid, Hubbard did had kids, I doubt he would acted like those parrents did. Many people dispise Hubbard but the man did love his mentally chalenged daughter if she was the greatest Thetan in his world

since grandma was there, maybe he thought he could get some extra loving care. maybe he cried louder, or whatever. i dont know, my god if the child is crying something is wrong! :duh:why not just pick them up and let them know you are there and you care, and skip the trying to figure out if he is just trying to get attention or what.

he was a father what is difficult about that, Hubbard actually was less a racist than Winston Churchill, but we needed a Winston Churchill to win the war. Get over it everybody has flaw. henry ford was a racist and Walt Disney was a racist too

I tend toward this myself. Over the years, I've heard many ideas on child raising, but a crying child needs love, care, protection. And also food, diaper changes and so on. Basically, the baby is the boss. That is how humans have made it this far. Love and care for the children. Everything depends on their love & care.

Interesting how all the analysis and ideas about the OP...

Yet: no one said anything about the fact that Hubbub was quite obviously a suck-hole parent himself. Extremely sad stuff for anyone who cares to explore what has happened to them (his children). So, I'm thinking that all the analysis (whether good or bad intended) has little to do with anything other than the infinite amount of speculation that tends to spawn, by anyone having been into Scn...

I realize that this isn't totally just a Scn thing, but seems to be a significant effect of - and yet people can tend to do it anyway without having had the exposure...but...it seems excessive now after having been in it, through it...

    Sue me if I'm wrong...

    Best,

I have spoken with surviving relatives, and they confirmed your suspicion. Shitty husband, dad, grandfather, and all the rest.

"I have spoken with surviving relatives, and they confirmed your suspicion. Shitty husband, dad, grandfather, and all the rest."

wow-geez. I'm only so far away (really far) from having had that experience or confirmation. And around here, it's hard to tell if someone has had the 'long ties' or more recent. I'm finding that I am really among so many who have not 'been there' way back when-

I'm so glad you said (verified) what you did. Maybe it will awaken the slowly awakening others - Doesn't seem like things get a whole lot more down to the point: than "your kids".

    What painfully true evidence -

    Well said...

A kid needs love... Crying is maybe the only way to get in contact with the mother. It should get repeated with love. It doesn't matter what the reason for the crying is. The kid is in trouble, that is important. I gave my kids this kind of needed love and I am lucky I wasn't a Scientologist anymore as I have got a mother. :)

It seems this kind of "Tech" this mother used is something special... As said here before, a weird Contact Assist with a combination from Hubbards "crying no attention" shit.
