Well, that seems to prove he had a firm grasp on things, but on a lower level. Perhaps we need more sacred vaseline, that is as if his erection, I mean selection, of words were not slippery enough.

It would probably be Standard Hand Cream.

Can you believe that Hubbard lied about such things?

That was my big takeaway from Scientology. That's what I learned.

I was in high school when I began devouring DMSMH and other books by Hubbard. I didn't get the "case gain" or OT abilities promised. I did get a power quite startlingly different, but equally valuable:

ABILITY ATTAINED FROM SCIENTOLOGY
"Jeez, I didn't know that an adult, a scientist, a nuclear physicist
and a doctor could all lie when they wrote a book containing "modern science".

That is in fact what happened to me. As a gullible, naive and credulous teen, I simply did not know that kind of thing could happen in the adult world of science and books.

It never occurred to me.

What also didn't occur to me until I escaped the cult was:

"Jeez, I didn't know that a scientist, a nuclear physicist and a doctor could
all lie about being a scientist, a nuclear physicist and a doctor."

.

You can ask whatever you like right here on this thread ... you'll probably get various and possibly contradictory responses (we all have our individual opinions) but that's part of the fun of chatting about these things openly (something you know you could never have done in the cult).

:)

The things I would like to say are taboo so far as I know. You pick up bits and pieces here and there but never full-blown descriptions that are believable. You learn to be cautious when it comes to telling what to whom. It’s not you that loses their cool, but the people who attack. You are not trying to convince them but never the less they must convince you and force their reality upon yours. Say it never really happened, you should apologize for mentioning it and admit being a fraud.

It became an open and clear-cut issue when the Chinese Government recently told the Dali Lama not to reincarnate without their permission for that’s against their law. Even an atheist need think twice about that. You as the accepted ruler must deny a thousand years of national tradition and teaching to keep in line with their recent version of political order?

Don't know about that particular part of him, but the rest of him was as slippery as an eel..

There are absolutely no such taboos here on ESMB.

We are all exes and have no restrictions on us at all, say as much or as little as you wish ... as I mentioned earlier you may get some differing responses but that is all part of being on this board and any discussions may be helpful in disentangling yourself from the screwed up theories hubbard had (if you feel you need that).

If you want to read discussions that have already taken place on pretty much any scientology subject, in detail (including the 'so called' upper/OT levels) you will be able to find them here if you take the time to ferret around a bit and you can add to those threads if you want to ... we have chewed over (and laughed at) just about every aspect of scientology over the years. If you are using your real name though and are concerned about OSA (formerly known as the GO) just alter a few dates or specifics so you are unlikely to be recognised by the goons (most of us couldn't give a toss about them but some people still have reason to remain wary and they usually take a few simple precautions).

Yeah, well we do consider him to be quite the wanker these days...

I’m sorry about that, but for some unknown reason the end of my message got cut off that would have made my point clearer and why I brought up the subject. It becomes a worry when a certain government recently told the Dali Lama not to reincarnate without their permission for that’s against their law. You as the accepted ruler must deny a thousand years of national tradition and teaching to keep in line with a recent version of political order?

I’ve been looking through recent pasts and some of them do refer to my concerns. I’m working out how throw in my two bits worth about being clear from totally different point of view. It’s not permanent and neither is the Scn version that leads to its own downfall.

I 'snipped' your post myself because I didn't want to reply to the part regarding the Dalai Lama, I was just replying to the cult part (or what I thought was regarding the cult) ... no drama though.

Can you understand, what I joined to talk about is reincarnation? It is an ongoing drama and problem to me and many others! I can give you a whole lot of facts about it, for and against, but as I said I’m trying to test the waters about the feelings of others, because I have faced misunderstanding previously and have some hangups that make me over sensitive perhaps.

Sure, old El Hubbo used it and profited by it and his successor still is peddling it for all it’s worth or the whole scheme would collapse in a heap. That’s part of the problem. They can and do use it how they like but the subject never did belong to them. The religion and reincarnation of the Dal Lama (I mean what if I were the Dali Lama?) doesn’t belong to the Chinese socialist elite for their talk of dialectal materialism.

Communism is a godless religion (For it holds figures like Marx in veneration) that seeks to impose upon others in often repressive and violent ways. Yet the only part that can be called religion belongs to those who accept peaceful experiences as part of their daily life. What may not make sense to others keeps them happy for to them there is no better answer.

Buddhism doesn’t believe in a god either. Who the people hold in vernation and the special way they do it belongs to the areas they are in. That’s part of the genius of their way, they have managed to hold separate areas in peace and live within the way of life they have.

I’m not religious but do have religious sympathies. People are people no matter what they do or don’t believe. But if I believe in reincarnation then how can I say I’m not religious? Well, already a lot of mistakes have been made in one phrase. I don’t believe but had some experiences with no other explanation. I cannot even try to impose what I don’t believe in by calling it religion, I could say there’s the rub, and make the hat trick of talking about sex, religion and politics over supper. (and don’t forget the big one of reincarnation!)

Feelings/thoughts of others?

Mine:

Yes, a person can have supernatural/spiritual beliefs without any belief in god(s).

For most people, most of the supernatural/spiritual beliefs for an individual began in their early childhood
(mental development that is heavily influenced by their parents and surrounding society).

For most people, this idea makes them feel better about their thoughts of physical death.

That's my 2 cents opinion on this topic. :)

Reincarnation? Not a lot of solid evidence to support it is there? Do you want to come back and go through this shit all over again? I know I don't.

Ah! You got me there. I should have said thoughts of others. Feelings are never facts, but sometimes all you have to go by. What I mean is some people in Scn had their case collapse on them because of being unable to handle their past or present life. It happens a lot, yet no mercy is given by Scn when it happens. A lot of confused thinking goes on. It’s advisable not to have many restims when trying to recover from certain mental or spiritual events.

To be honest I tend to get carried when writing for I have nothing to sell, just tell what I have to say. I say it in my own way in the hope of helping others. You will never fear the worst - if you can keep your hope for the best - no matter what comes next.

I noticed you put the supernatural and spiritual together. Depends on whether you view being spiritual as natural or supernatural. There is a difference, supernatural means way beyond the natural. attributed to some force beyond scientific understanding or the laws of nature. That way of understanding leaves the door open for human fantasy figures to enter, as belief in god/gods. Fairies and elves, Santa Claus. I’m at a stage now where I can no longer see beyond what is natural yet being natural is unnatural to many.

I did believe in fairies. I did believe in Santa (Yes, Virginia!) But to use the best quote on the subject, “When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.”

I don't believe in Santa Claus or fairies but I don't believe that we have discovered all there is to know. I pretty sure even hard-core scientists don't think we know everything about everything. There are documented but unexplained phenomena still to be understood.

And, as we don't yet understand these things, it seems presumptuous to completely rule out "spiritual" causes before we know anything about these unexplained phenomena. However, it's really hard to look in that direction because the territory is inhabited by all sorts of nuts, kooks and crazies. A scientist can ruin their reputation just by admitting they've looked there.

The belief in Reincarnation is what interested me in Dianetics, in 1950.
That was one of the "WOW FACTORS" of reading the early books when I first got in. Add to all that the SUPER WOW of reading about pulling air covers off planets, exteriorization and levitation in HISTORY OF MAN and other WOW WOO in "HAVE YOU LIVED BEFORE THIS LIFE?", and I decided I wanted me some of that magically miraculous mojo.

The thrill of it all (i.e. the expectation of being able to have total everything!) began to dramatically fade when I read the book "HAVE YOU LIVED BEFORE THIS CULT".
