Fascinating document. At one time I knew some of the folks that wrote those glowing OT wins.

What impresses me today (2018) about those tall tales of supernatural powers to leave the body and other stunningly miraculous claims, is this:

EVERYONE OF THOSE "OTs" IS LYING. . .

    THEY ARE LYING TO SCIENTOLOLGY
ABOUT HAVING THOSE POWERS. . .

THEY ARE LYING TO OTHER SCIENTOLOGISTS
ABOUT HAVING THOSE POWERS. . .

THEY ARE LYING TO THEMSELVES ABOUT
    HAVING THOSE POWERS. . .

THEY WANT IT TO BE TRUE SO BADLY AND TO
FIT IN WITH THE OTHERS (WHOM THEY DO NOT
KNOW ARE LIARS JUST LIKE THEMSELVES) AND
THUS THEY ARE TERRIFIED TO ADMIT THAT THE
    TECH DIDN'T WORK ON THEM. . .

THEY HAPPILY LIE IN ORDER TO AVOID LOSING
STATUS AND HOPE AND ADMITTING THAT THEY
FAILED WHEN ALL THE OTHERS BECAME GODS. . .

    THAT'S HUMILIATING. . .

IT'S INFINITELY EASIER TO JUST AGREE AND LIE, TO WIT:

"Yeah, sure, I can go exterior any time I want. Hey, I just came back
from Saturn! Besides all that, do you want to come back to my place
after course---because I just obnosed that your meat body has
    really gargantuan tits."

    I liked auditing.

    I experienced some amazing things.

    I liked having wins.

I liked listening to other people's wins, who were on the OT Levels, while eating breakfast, lunch or dinner in the Manor Hotel dining room.

I witnessed some awesome phenomena in other people who were getting auditing.

I liked reading the OT wins in the Advance Mag.

    It was a fun time.....1973 - 1974

There was shit mixed in with the fun and in between the fun which showed up more and more as the years went on....until finally there was no fun and just shit. I didn't see anyone else around me having any fun or talking about any wins either....just complaining about the shit. Some left :outtahere:, I left :byefly:. Some stayed....still hoping .....

What's worse, lying to oneself or being a dogmatic asshole who presents opinions as facts?

One thing I liked about Scientology was that it let any reasonably intelligent person join and assume responsibilities.

This was an expression of Will Durant's desire to reach the average (Reasonably intelligent ) man, and of Alfred Korzybski's belief that his teachings must be able to be used by an intelligent layman.

I didn't realize at the time that Hubbard had a policy of having a big front door, and allowing almost any eager person join and participate, while at the same time having a big back door, from which to boot those who he had used and drained of their youth, energies, savings, credit, and children.

I liked the idea of salvaging the being.

From there...salvaging all 8 dynamics...making the able more able.

I have a theory...at the center of the cult member is the naive goal of being a hero. I can see this in NOI members, Social Justice Warriors, Scientologists, Jihadis...perhaps it's germane to all cults.

Everybody wants to be a hero.
