Oh this could be fun!

Scientologists are planning to do a documentary on Louis Theroux

It seems however that the Scientologist folk are not taking this lying down, and are apparently going to make a documentary on Louis Theroux now.

How very meta of them.

Just been informed by Scientology lawyers that Scientology is working on a documentary about me. Little bit excited; little bit nervous.

Yeah we're confused too... is Tom Cruise going to direct it or what??

I guess they dug up more 'dirt' on Louis than they could find on Alex Gibney, enough to make a smear docu.

This is already backfiring

Sure. Why not do the same exact thing you just did for the last couple of months -- that completely blew up in your face --- even possibly getting millions (yes millions) more to watch Gibney's documentary than would have watched it otherwise. You just got through all of that and now you want to do it AGAIN? How about a break from your insanity for like a minute?

I think they've gone so mad that they cannot sit still in any calm, quiet space for even a second lest the horror of what they've been doing engulf them and eat them alive.

Moving, moving, moving, hurry, hurry, hurry, emergency, emergency, emergency, don't stop, can't stop, can't breathe, "god dammit, who drank COB's water?" "fuck!", go, go, go....must create madness, must spew hate, must say SOMETHING, ANYTHING against these SPS.

My opinion is that they cannot sustain this constant creation of seething hate much longer. Something has to give.

Until then, they'll surely catapult Louis Theroux's documentary into mainstream public view in no time.

Scientologists, what technical detail has failed you?

How much do you want to be they'll make false inferences to him being a pervert, because he did a BBC documentary on the California porn industry in 1997 where he had a walk-on (non-sexual) role in a gay porn film. He followed up that docu with another in 2012.

In the Church Scientology's view, they are not doing the same exact thing. They are doing something different, something MORE.

The lesson the Church of Scientology learned from the Going Clear debacle is that the Church was insufficiently aggressive. The Church of Scientology did not threaten, much less make, a full-on documentary concerning Alex Gibney. It did not start black PRiing Gibney soon enough, or in sufficient volume (e.g., by doing a full documentary on him).

Who says the Church of Scientology does not learn from its mistakes? :confused2:

Miscavige must have exploded with joy when he was informed of the gay porn bit part. What more could a vicious nasty little cult leader wish for? He was 3 feet beside himself with sheer happiness.

If there were any brain cells left that recognised the stupidity of his previous smear-video-actions, they were quickly drowned by the tsunami of pleasure hormones rushing through his system.

I predict this smear documentary will reveal Miscavige's deepest phobias and fantasies projected onto Theroux. Totally delicious critic caek.

I am so looking forward to this piece of cult fiction.

Attacking Theroux (he's the son of author Paul Theroux, btw) would be a big mistake. He has a very high media profile and no skeletons in his cupboard that anyone knows about, and most importantly he's made a career out of studying and then filming some of the odder corners of human nature.

So why are they doing it? I guess they're stuck with "Always attack, never defend" and can't amend it.

If he ever decided to make a documentary about Scientology it would be compulsive viewing.

They are doing it because he has already made a doco about them. Should be released soon, I think.

You're right, I'll edit my post. I misunderstood what the Business Insider article meant by "theatrical feature", and assumed it would be only loosely based on fact. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Louis looks soft, he comes across as a bubbly puppy I think the cherch see him as easy. I think they're in for a big surprise, he's not the fluffy bumbling simpleton they think he is. Under that kitten-like exterior he has balls of steel and plenty of brain power too.

Louis Theroux's much anticipated Scientology documentary will see the filmmaker going to the heart of the world’s largest population of Scientologists in Los Angeles in what he is calling "the Holy Grail of Stories."

So his signature move is to go inside and create documentaries from a very intimate personal position with the subjects. He has discussed how difficult it has been for anyone to get "inside" and calls this the Holy Grail of Stories so I am assuming that he actually did get inside to do this but how? I have been trying to imagine scenarios. It's a great mystery and I am stuck to it like glue! LOL

I watched a documentary where he went to live with different families, all of them having children on psych drugs. It was so good I can't get it out of my head. So I thought about that method -- spending time with Scientologists and their families in their homes. That would be cool but no Scientologist would agree to that without permission from the church and that would not likely be given, right?

He couldn't go inside the orgs, I don't think, without either being in disguise or without having permission which, again, seems unlikely.

This is just too wonderful to think about the possibilities. He seems cleverly low-key and not one to be hyperbolic so to say, "the Holy Grail of Stories" is just so intriguing!

The same libel laws that are making trouble for Going Clear in Northern Ireland may interfere with this doco. Wouldn't it be delicious if they can't show this doco in Theroux's home country? Or if he sues them and wins...
