Aw shit.
I thought I made my goodbye post & some one PM'd me a post by Mr. Lakey. He had to throw in one more shot & pretty much locked me long onto the future having fun here for a long time to come.

I thought I was done with the one man ego trip this thread has become.

But, no doubt there are more past things that didn't happen only because were always somebody else's fault that he has yet to post about here.

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

I did not realize I had taken sides with anyone. My only responses had to do with what was directed at me, which felt heavy handed on this end. (If I am wrong about heavy handed, forgive my lack of perception).

I did not feel understood in my post so I assume I did not communicate it very well. But now I don't know what to say....and as I am short a computer I will remain mute. Just thought I was making a light suggestion that after being bludgeoned by draconian cos structures that playing with pets and hanging out a bit was healthy. I couldn't really read your long responses since it felt a bit strong and I blanked it out for myself. (I evade anything I don't enjoy, a flaw perhaps.) Not due to your points made, be they true or false, but just as I said above. I guess I will wait for everyone to relax and chill out again. When fights ensue my best approach is just change topic, redirect into sandpit, and/or hugs. I don't do argue ever.

Forget about this too. I think that we have reached a meeting of the minds. Please leave the misunderstanding behind us, I will return the ram rod to you but please, pretty please, could I keep it another couple of days. it is really an incredible aid to ....... well you know, some things are better left unsaid.

I predicted that he would not actually go and once again I was right. There is no way Gizmo is ever going to give up this thread, let's just face it, he is hooked for keeps. He has taken the bait I am dishing out, hook, line and sinker!!

Yes, I guess I am love bombing. Sue me.

This is really a very beautiful piece of music. The lyrics are simple but compelling. I never paid much attention to it when it was out, wonder why.

Fine, thank you for your opinion, it is obvious that you feel very strongly about this matter. People reading your post will take into account the passion with which you present your views!!!

I am the moderator of the thread having written its first post. As moderator, I know of several people whom I respect who hold a view different from yours. Two such people who are my friends are Purple Haze and CO2. Purple can deliver CoS tech as well as other forms of tech, including social worker's tech. I have never had a session from CO2 but I know that he is capable of talking to people over the phone and somehow producing major changes for the better in them. Phil Spickler may likely think highly of some portions of tech and then there are two veteran posters here, Leon and Terril who tend to support tech going on in the field. As moderator, I am striving for a forum where differing views are allowed the right of presenting their case. I often disagree with one side at the expense of the other side but even so both sides have the right to be heard. If we don't do that, then we are no better than all the hate mongers on so many of the bash type threads on ESMB! I really want to uphold a forum which allows conflicting viewpoints to compete on an equal basis. The strength of one side's logical arguments over the other side must decide the issues otherwise why even bother to waste one's time developing a forum? >snip<

Really? You've been vested with Mod powers on this thread? Whoa, Homo Ego Novis in action. Until Emma confirms your Mod position I call b.s. One of the reasons people leave this thread alone is your constant emotional positioning fallacy the rest of ESMB is composed of "haters." Assumptive us vs them cult-think never ends well.

You, know, maybe moderator is not the best term to use. Let's look at the Miriam Webster full definition:

Full Definition of MODERATOR

1
: one who arbitrates : mediator
2
: one who presides over an assembly, meeting, or discussion: as
a : the presiding officer of a Presbyterian governing body
b : the nonpartisan presiding officer of a town meeting
c : the chairman of a discussion group
3
: a substance (as graphite) used for slowing neutrons in a nuclear reactor
— mod·er·a·tor·ship \-ˌship\ noun
See moderator defined for English-language learners
See moderator defined for kids

For all of you people who object to the use of scio words and insist on using standard English, look what happens to me! I use standard English and then I get ex-scientologese thrown back in my face. As Rodney Dangerfield used to say, "I don't get no respect!"

I don't see ESMB or Emma's name mentioned in any of the standard English definitions of the word.

I consider two of the definitions close to what I am attempting to do. One is to be a mediator and the other would be #2b, a nonpartisan presiding officer, not of a town meeting but of a modern day replacement for a town meeting. known as a chat room.

Those are the senses of the word in Standard English, that I was using. You can take your ex Scientologese definitions and stick them you know where. I have just been given a ram rod from Maria which I can loan out to anyone who needs it to properly powition their ex Scientologese word definitions.

I also attempt to welcome new people who post here for the first time and like to acknowledge all worthwhile posts plus I am the OP who started the thread. Just using the term OP doesn't really pick up the entirety of my function here.

To me, what I call my function is insignificant and what counts is what I say in my posts. If I screw up there, I have no problem admitting it and fixing the post. That is what is important. Nevertheless, some people are anal and will get hung up on a word like moderator and instead of using standard English, they will use ex Scientologese while trying to tear down the guy who is using standard English.

Apparently you don't understand common English insofar as it's applied to the internet.

Administrator Noun: 3b) a person who determines the site policies, appoints moderators, and manages the technical operation of an Internet message board or other interactive website.

Moderator Noun: 3) a member of an online message board or electronic mailing list with privileges and responsibilities to approve or reject messages and uphold the terms of service.

O.P. OP means 'original poster' in discussion forums. The original poster is the person who started a discussion thread, and OP is used to refer back to that person as the responses grow.

You're the O.P. of this thread, not a moderator. You have the same exact rights and privileges here at ESMB as everyone else does. No more, no less. If you choose to be an ego-fag (an Anonymous term) then knock yourself out.

Technically I am the O.P. pf the thread, you are right about that but as I pointed out in my post which you quoted, O.P. does not cover all of the duties which I chose to do such as welcoming newer posters to the thread and ackowledging and thanking people for when they make good posts.

We often talk about thinking outside the box both on this thread, and on other threads on ESMB as well as other internet sites and in discussions about life. I have a question for you and I am asking this question in a sincere manner and am not trying to make you wrong, Can you please tell me and the other thread members why ego is involved or why it is egotistical for a person to want to do a good job at all the things he or she does. You, Gizmo and most others who agree with you guys are equating doing a good job as a thread O.P. with being egotistical.

I attempted to do an outstanding job as a father,in running my business for 37 years. in aerospace, in every job I was posted to in the Sea Org. in being a good brother, in being a good friend. Why is that egotistical? If you can give a good answer to that question, or if Gizmo can, I would then modify my behavior. I really do not think however, that doing whatever one does at as high a level as one is capable of is an egotistical trait.

I just cited 6 or 7 posters on this thread as mentors of mine. Mentors are associates whom a person learns things from. Thanking mentors, applauding excellent posts, spending time to write a detailed treatise in answer to Gizmo's question as to whether Judaism is a religion, a race or a combination of both. I wrote this in direct reply to a query made by Gizmo. Did he respond to what I wrote or acknowledge me in any way? No he did not. I don't really care but the fact that he did not respond to my post was duly noted by me. I think several other people found that information useful. Taking the time to write that treatise was not egotistical, I was just trying to do a good job posting on this thread.

An egotist does not thank other people for adding on to his writings as I thanked Enthetan for the fine critique he did of my treatise. In fact, I admitted to him that I was not an expert in that topic and would appreciate it if he would forward me some references where I could learn more.

Do you want a good illustration of a man with a huge ego, we have it in the person of L Ron Hubbard, a man with an absolutely humongous ego. He claimed to be Source in this universe, he made his word sacrosanct, criticizing anything he said would lead to a visit to Ethics. He dumped all over his 3 wives, even denying the existence of the second wife. He abandoned all his children, again even denying that one of his daughters was his child. He allowed his most loyal wife to go to prison for misdeeds which he originated. That, my friend is an example of an egotist. I don't fit that profile.

Running a thread on ESMB is not particular anything to be particularly proud of. If that is all that all person has to show at retirement age and beyond that person has not lived a very full life. The thing is if one is going to put in a lot of time and effort on such a thread, why not do all you can do to make the thread a special place, a real forum where people of varying opinions and ideas can come and share their knowledge in a safe and non partisan chat board type of atmosphere. The other things which makes being the O.P. of a big thread worthwhile is the friends, current and past which one can make from such an activity.

I was able to forge a working relation with CO2, a wise and intelligent man who is connected to many VIPS, I managed to make friends with Purple Haze, a legend at the early CCLA. Though never meeting him personally, I have been able to benefit from on online friendship of sorts with FoTi, of late I have a slight acquaintance with a German, Leland, FoTi became a personal friend as did Sweetness and Light and now I have made friends with a person with two masters degrees and who has taught university level philosophy courses at an Ivy League caliber University, of course referring to Maria.

Meeting friends of this caliber is what makes posting here worthwhile. I would have never had any of these friends had I not started this thread. Meeting such friends and dozens of others more than outweighs having to take barbs and be insulted by people who I really do not care for all that much. Sure, I would like them too if they made worthwhile posts on a regular basis but some of them are just mainly interested in more negative pursiuits.

So, that if my answer to you. I do not consider myself an egotist. I am just a guy trying to do a decent job as a thread O.P. I appreciate the criticism you made and admit that I should have chosen a word other than moderator to describe what I do here. I will take your advice to heart and not use than term again as a descriptive for what I do here. That's about all I can do to accommodate you. I thank you for posting here from time to time and hope that you continue to do so.

Re: Lisa Sparks : aka one smokin' mamma ~!

giz is short for gizmo....my user name.

I must be really dense as I'm entirely missing how my name degenerates the thread.

Help me. Explain it to me.

My grandfather used to refer to items that, at the moment, he didn't remember ( or care ) what the name of was. It'd be like " get me that gizmo " or " bring that gizmo over here".
So, it was just a word used for a nameless object.

I grew up with 'gizmo' meaning a nameless something or other thing.

I sort of thought that on a chat board using a name that meant nameless was sort of half assed 'cute' - now I find some feel it is degeneration of the thread?

I guess as I can see where the usage of some words some people find OK & others find the same word as not PC. We've seen a little of that crop up time to time in this thread, too.

My question is this : Who gets to approve user names ?

Is there a self appointed approver of user names that must give user names an OK to be welcome on a thread ?

Maybe leaving it the Board Moderation Team is going to be good enough & I just shrug off opinions of fellow posters designed to censor others.

OMG, I forgot that term Gizmo, from what I remembered it was more towards an electronic device newly invented in the 1950's to 1970's period. I remember using the term and saying hand me that gizmo.

what's funny is that I read not too long ago about hubbard saying he hated writing about electonic devics in Sci Fi, I think it was either Campbell or Heinlein, a letter to either.

And yet the fuk promoted the E-Meter and as godsend, to back up his Nuclear Physicist BS LOL

I was gabbing after class and had no idea she was behind me. She tapped me and I shoved her away. And that is when I got paddled. The wonders of a Catholic education.

I nearly beaten to death by Sister Mary Ruth in the 1st grade at St. Anthony's.. She had a yardstick she used on me in front of the whole class. I was horsing around standing on the toilet locked in my lavatory stall....and throwing toilet paper on my friend over in the next stall. Chrissakes!

It was so funny, cause my friend made fun of me un-crisscrossing my plaid uniform straps to get my skirt down to pee. She suggested I just hoist my pleats to go pee. I could never re-cross those plaid straps in the back properly. Duh. Tomboy me. :melodramatic:
