Just listening to muzak.

Great to see you back on this thread Maria! The thread wasn't the same without you, You seem to have an awful lot of fans here, I love this particular song! Actually, I never in heard it before. It seems to me something like Mozart would have written were he around in the 60's. If not him, then maybe J.S. Bach might have come up with something like this is he were alive then.

Muzak? The Stones you're calling muzak? A track featuring the late great Nicky Hopkins on piano is muzak? Maria, go and sit on the naughty step immediately! :coolwink:

The only listenable song on the Stones admittedly worst album. And it's a barely listenable screaming ripoff of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. And you were doing soooooo well with the earlier quiz:omg:

So yeah, send me to my room now. Oops, I'm on the naughty step first.

Switching gears...I wonder if anyone here likes this singer as much as I do...

I loved Leslie when I was a young teenager. No Dusty Springfield, but she was good. You Don't Own Me is one of the all time great songs from any era or genre.

My musical tastes include almost everything except heavy rap. I do like the stones....

Right now I am enjoying Lesley Gore...and Lulu... LOL. Please, scold away!!!

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

I liked accountants because they do it double entry.

Programmers ?

Meh, programmers... musicians, and I mean REAL musicians can do it again and again. And again. Just look at the brand new old video I 've found:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efx4DCMbz8Q

A skilled person, a pretty simple instrument and maybe some backup-track, isn't that all it takes, to outrank Lakey's frustrating, hollow, pretentious A=432 Hz bullshit? The woman in the video certainly doesn't count her frequencies, she just plays what she feels and she's damn good at it.

Really, I'd marry her over any deluded "A=432 Hz" weirdo anytime, just for the way she plays - because she is skilled enough to put her center frequency exactly to where she needs it to be. She's so much more authentic and real than that bullshit.

I'd prefer simple, well-grounded reality over pretentious, hollow, meaningless delusions anytime.

A=432 Hz, my ass! I've played in countless pubs with out-of tune pianos and I'm certain that I must have have accidentally tuned my instruments to that frequency a few times, but this is all so meaningless. When I'm playing alone, I only need to keep my tuning within reasonable ranges and my instrument in tune with itself. When I'm playing with others, it's important that we're all in tune with each other, but the exact center frequency does not matter all.

 I challenge Lakey to analyze and protocol all the different frequencies that woman plays in the video I posted and check 'em against his fucked-up, useless 432Hz wannabe-theory.

Really, why do people choose to waste valuable time with hunting things that don't even exist?

To Lakey:
During the past 4 decades or so, I must have tuned some of my instruments to every frequency they could bear and trust me, there's really nothing special with A=432 Hz. So stop bothering the world with Voodoo frequencies and just enjoy the music. You don't need to be right, which you rarely are anyway, you just need to listen and enjoy the music. Stop to find things when theres no there, there. Please. The world will thank you.

That quiz thing was meant for strativarius. He's been following me around decoding my obscure song references on other threads. I was just pulling his leg. But, now that you mention it, you do need to retrain from the bottom up on the Stones.

Cramming Order:

Early Stones
1. m4 *rate "England's Newest Hitmakers.
2. m4 *rate "The Rolling Stones Now"
3. m4 *rate "12 X 5"

Classic Stones
1. m4 *rate "Beggar's Banquet"
2. m4 *rate "Let it Bleed"
3. m4 *rate "Sticky Fingers"
4. m4 *rate "Get Yer Ya Ya's Out"

Conditions from Confusion. Particularly find out why Satanic Majesties sucks.:coolwink:

I agree, it was an awful album. Matter of fact the only album of theirs I ever really liked was 'Let It Bleed', although they did write a couple of beautiful songs, 'Angie' and 'Wild Horses' as well as the classics 'Satisfaction', 'Tumbling Dice' and 'Brown Sugar'.

I was at UFO the night Joe Boyd decided we should protest Mick Jagger's sentence for drug possession and we all trooped down to Picadilly Circus at midnight and ended up being chased by the cops with vicious dogs running after us. For me it was all about what the 'Stones represented, not their music particularily.

Scorsese's 'Shine A Light' documentary convinced me it was time they called it a day. A dreadful racket.

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

It is really how amazing that through pattern matching in a chunk of text one can find out and DO so many operations and transformations.

At this point I have forgotten it. But I do remember. Friday, 5 p.m., suddenly I am told we need half a million records into the Oracle database by next week. And here is the ftp address. And my boss actually Imagined that as lead on the website I would find some intern to type them in!!!! So instead I went home, learned perl and regex, and Monday morning began to write the script. And met the deadline. Such is the crazy world of the needs and wants of a Television Executive (my boss) and the ever loyal geek (me). But those needs and wants become absolutely infinite. Each time I pull the rabbit out of my hat, new rabbits need pulling, faster than I can pull. Speak of growing. The more I seem able to do, the more it is assumed I have endless capacity to do, the more the chocolates fall off the conveyor belt....well.....

Like poor Lucy on the Lucy show:

This video as well as what you just said above, Maria, reminds me of something about CoS management tech. Note, I am not trying to pour water on a happy parade; I'm just trying to make a connection and make a point. The Lucy and Ethel video plus what you wrote above, Maria, reminds me of Hubbard's policy stating that every single task needs to be quantified and have a statistic assigned to it and each statistic must go up every single week to keep one in a state of normal operation.

I believe that piece of Hubbard's tech is incorrect. If he had said that the trend had to be upwards and that dips were going to occur on a week to week basis, I would have gone along with that. Actually he did say those things as well but what got practiced in CoS was that stats had to go up every single week. If not a person would be assigned Emergency and would lose their day off and any bonus money they might earn the next week. This was and still is a very destructive policy!! Lucy and Ethyl had a job they could handle and they were handling it successfully. As the speed was increased on their conveyor belt, not they nor anyone else could have continued to do the job. LRH knew this would be the case but put that principle into place anyway!

Eventually, all people will fail at a job when faced with a conveyor built which speeds up without a limit. The video shows that in a graphic and entertaining way. The policy should be modified but it can't be, per policy unless Hubbard comes back and does it himself. So there it is, I said it and now let's return to the happiness of the music.

The A = something other than 440 was the way conductors tuned their orchestra to the hall by ear in the days before ubiquitous EQ. MrNobody is exactly right in that it matters little except locally and the important thing is for everyone to be in tune. I was watching a video by a guitar teacher named Scott Groves who insisted we were all tuning our guitars wrong. He gave instruction on how to tune using a chromatic tuner by continuing to strike the low strings as you tune rather than to let the notes decay, as they go flat as they decay. Then (and this was the shocker) he said to fret the G# on the third string and tune it 15 cents flat. I tried it his way and then struck a chord. Wowfuckingwow. Soooooo pretty and full. I don't really understand it but it has to do with the inherent scale length problems on thick vs thin strings.

After Mick Taylor left the music went to shit for me. And I was and remain a huge fan of pre-76 Stones. To me, Ron Wood's best work was and always will be as bassist for Jeff Beck. The tapes of the Steel Wheels tour in 89 were pretty outstanding, though. I saw the Stones at Winterland on the Exile tour. Probably the best straight ahead rock and roll show I ever saw. But Stevie Wonder opened and they gave him 40 minutes. If he had had a full hour, the Stones would never have been able to follow. He was AWESOME. The beginning of HIS great period from Innervisions to Songs in the Key of Life and he was just incredible.

Thank you Lakey, I was off at the dry cleaners being new, improved, dusted off, etc.

Judging from the quality of your posting, today, that is some kind of dry cleaners shop you patronized!! Would you know if they had a West Coast branch? I think I could use a dust off myself and a lot of people are suggesting that I need to become new and improved as well!!

You've only been here 3 1/2 months and already we can't get along with out you. Look at your fan mail, incredible!!

I have no clue about quality. If anything I'm
being a pain in the derrière by overposting music.

I have no fans....only a friend here or there.
