Church of Scientology attempting to recruit in the Irish Gaeltacht

It appears the controversial Church of Scientology may be widening its recruitment in Ireland to people in the Gaeltacht (Irish-speaking areas) and other Irish-speakers throughout the country with attempts made by a sub-company of the church to translate their educational and information supplements into Irish.

According to Tuairisc.ie, the subcompany – Golden Era Productions – recently wrote to a number of Irish translators looking for people qualified and interested in reproducing their programs in Irish.

“In addition to the many languages we already provide we will also now be making our materials available in Gaelic and thus we are looking for qualified and interested translators,” the company wrote.

Do they really want to recruit anybody?

That would involve delivering the Scientology scam product in a new language, including all the Ronspew books, and woo services such as "auditing"... it's nothing but hassle.

Alternatively, tap up a whale for a hundred grand, because "we're bringing Scientology to a whole new population, baby!" Then you've got your urgently-needed cash injection, you can leave two staffer blokes who happen to speak Irish translating the Ronspew for free, and you're done! You print a few books (don't need many) yourself and it's easy to report mission accomplished.

Clearing the plant is so last century, my dears...

The Church of Scientology is advertising for Gaelic translators:

Use Google translation.

DM and the Church of Scientology take very seriously the number of languages in which the materials have been fully and completely translated. It is a major PR point at events.

It's beyond laughable that the cult claims 20M followers, (although their are probably less than 20,000 world wide) but they don't know one person who speaks Gaelic.

That Irishcentral.com article points out that the Dublin Org is listed on the COS website as a United Kingdom branch.

If there is one thing that is guaranteed to annoy almost any Irish person it is to say that Dublin is in the United Kingdom.:footbullet:

Just how many people do they think are in Ireland, who can speak Gaelic, but who are not ALSO fluent in English?

It's not about trying to reach this little 0.001% of the population: the Dwarf doesn't give a damn about getting new people into Scientology. It's about adding one more language, one new Guinness record to add to the collection, one more excuse to hit up the whales to add to his slush fund.

To deliver Scn in a new language with both good translations of books/course materials and people who speak that language well is a hell of a lot of expense and work. The translations are supposed to be checked by Class VIs or something, fluent in that language. That's not gonna happen. What will happen is lip service, enough for the photo ops and the newspaper stories and that's it.

It seems that the organisation are looking to recruit Irish speakers according to Tuarisc.ie.

Members of the church have reportedly begun recruiting people from the Gaeltacht and other Irish-speakers around Ireland to translate their information and educational material into Irish.

The job description explained that, as the charity had limited funds, the rate of pay would be lower than the normal standard offered for such work.

In English usage in Ireland one very rarely hears of Irish being referred to as Gaelic - the 3 Gaelic languages are Irish, Scottish Gaelic, and Manx. In fact the term 'Gaelic' is generally used to refer to the Scottish branch.
