Seeing beyond the veil of "protection of religious beliefs"
This coerced abortion policy has nothing to do with Scientology's alleged "religious" beliefs or practices, and everything to do with "stats", the productivity of workers making money for the cult.
Getting all this horrible but true data about the COS into the mainstream media is the most effective way to disseminate to the world. Because it will make everybody really LOOK what Scientology practices, as opposed to what Scientology preaches (glossy pro-Sci PR and what's in the literature).
Kathleen Parker from the Washington Post Writers Group has an op/ed today about fighting coerced abortions and infanticide in China. Little does she know it is taking place right here in the land of Liberty, and anywhere else that organized Scientology holds sway.
I've been reporting this to religious and Woman's rights organizations since I first learned about it, Alanzo, you're right, it is finally getting "out" into mainstream consciousness. I think seeing it written about in mainstream media is what needs to happen to make it "real" for folks who know nothing about Scientology except for their slick PR.
Thank you to everyone who has been "leaking" news and information to the media for so long. The cumulative effort is really starting to pay off. It's the tipping point, folks! Keep it up!
Tell your stories, what you witnessed and what happened to you and your family members. Once this kind of knowledge is out in the public awareness, reform/change has to happen, because public opinion will demand it. People are basically good and will demand justice.
Bitey, thank you for voicing my thoughts, if we are going to thank anyone besides the writers (hurrah, writers can change the world- the pen is mightier than the sword!), let's thank the women who first had to endure this and then had the courage to speak out about it being the injustice that it is, rather than allowing themselves to be shuddered into silence by shame or blackmail. For every woman that has talked or written, even anonymously, about having an abortion to stay in good status with Scientology, I'll bet there are ten more who have been silenced.
I think many more abortions have occurred than have been reported, and are still occurring. I think many of the husbands or romantic partners involved knew nothing about them. I think the "church" has gotten smarter about not doing it en mass, sending them off to different locations to have the procedure done, instead of arriving with a van full of women month after month to the same health clinics (often on the taxpayers dime)...
I'll bet anything that this practice has been going on since before 1980, just kept very secret, even back to when abortions were illegal in this country, they were still common. There is a report from a family member, if I remember correctly, of Ron's trying to abort one of his own children, back before it was a legal medical procedure, in spite of how he says it messes up your case in Dianetics.
It was very common, but it was not POLICY of a "church" to ensure your usefulness to the system. It DOES NOT get more totalitarian than this, folks. Scientologist lurkers, if you have a daughter and want her to marry and enjoy a normal family life, DO NOT under ANY circumstances, no matter what recruiters promise you, allow her to be recruited into the Sea Org, ever. If you have a daughter in, GET HER OUT, even if you have to fake a heart attack to do so.
I say thank you to everyone who has acted up or spoken out for freedom at any level. I think there is great power in the accumulated voices telling the truth about their lives as Scientologists.
Daylight, I see more and more daylight all the time.
Big hug to the "happy haters", you gave me a chuckle!
