What happened on Tuesday?

Isn't it wonderful that neither tuesday nor thursday mean shit in this venue? :)

Zinj

It is wonderful alrignt! Its even more wonderful that we are not assigned a condition based or our stats. Of course I know all about Thursday at 2:00PM but what happens on Tuesday that we are fortunate to avoid?

Hi Heidrun good to hear from you again!

Hi Friends,

sorry I have been absent from your happy community! I still haven't found a new place to live. Still travelling through Austria and Europe to find new connections and a new home. Made one step forward - I found a quarter for my two sons, so now I can clean out their chaos and pack my own stuff.

Done major work, bringing processing to the mainstream through a new website: http://www.life-lessons.eu

And I got one of the most prominent Freezone auditors, Ken Urquhart, to write about LRH's health problems in the light of the detailed brain physiology knowledge he has acquired:

I have to go back to packing. Have a great evening/night/day!

.

Heidrun, so nice to hear from you again after all these months. Well done on all that you have accomplished. Did you check it out? We are the No. 1 thread in hits now at over 153,000.

Congratulations on all thar you have accomplished recently and thanks for posting Ken Urquhart's articles.

NAH! Pico was Mexican!

Sections of the Americas were overrun by the Spanish. But no "true" governors there either.

The Spanish were overrun by the Moors until Christians chased them out of town.

I vote Mother Nature as First True Governor.

Marelene - What a woman!

She has incredible mystique, femininity, mystery, naughtiness, intrigue and yet despite all this, she projects honesty and decency. Renouncing her Nazi citizenship and moving to the USA in the early 30's. She went out on tour during WWII and played the USO sponsored events with Bob Hope and all the American patriots.

In her 1967 concert, she did all her talking to the audience in English and sang all her songs in English or French, except her very last song, which is Lilli Marlene, which Hats posted above. She apologized to the audience that she had to use German but said Lilli Marlene MUST be song only in German. There was tumultous applause and she gave us an encore, once again apologizing that the song had to be sung in German. The encore was one of her older big hits, "Johnny".

LANGUAGES USED FOR SONGS AND SPEECH
German, though guttural in speech, to me mellows out and is extremely lyrical and beautiful in song and poetry.

English, when sung in a slang manner is excellent in popular music but in opera or when translating German Lieder, it is very flat and banal.

Italian is the absolute most beautiful language for opera. I don't know about pop tunes but for light Classical, sung by Andrea Bocelli or the "Three tenors", it is the best language as well. Also in speech, Italian is great!

Spanish is beautiful in music and in speech but to me, it is not as beautiful as Italian, which is quite similar to it. Spanish excels in the rhythmic genre's originating in South America, it excels when used in Flamenco, salsa and all forms having a lot of rhythm.

French is beautiful in speech, also beautiful in opera but a little too syrup like for my tastes. French songs are at their best in sort of light classical such as Edith Piaf songs or going way back again, Maurice Chevalier. When they use French for American movies such as in Gigi's, "Thank Heaven for Little Girls", it is a bit too theedy weedy for me but in the opera Carmen by Bizet, only French will do.

OTHER LANGUAGES - I don't know much about the Eastern European languages. Czech sounds nice in speech, more mellow than Russian. Japanese is very much like fine poetry. The Japanese have imbued their tongue with spirituality. Western ears can't pick up any words but there is a nice spiritual flow to it. Hebrew is flowing and beautiful, both in speech and in song - quite similar to French in both regards but with less syrup.

ANCIENT LANGUAGES - Latin, similar to Italian but not a expressive in either speech or sound. Greek, speech sounds weird but most of the words are recognizable in English, the Greek songs I have heard in middle East restaurants showcase the language as excellent for singing.

I am no expert on this, does anyone with more background in it have much to say? Also, I have left out the too largest population groups, China and India. I know nothing about any of their many, many local languages.

City of Pico Rivera and Mexican rule in California

NAH! He was only the first governor of u.s. occupied california. Pio Pico was the last "true" governor of california. :coolwink:

Mark A. Baker

There is a medium sized city of about 65,000 between Whittier and East Los Angeles called Pico Rivera. I did a construction job there in the mid 1990's and the homeowner told me that there were once two separate cities, Pico and Rivera which decided to merge.

Of course Pico was named in honor of governor Pio Pico. They have his home open as a monument right on one of their main streets. I drive by there evey now and then but have never stopped. I think I will drive up and check it out.

MAB, are you serious about California being occupied territory? I know that it was in Mexico when Mexican independence was declared in 1822. Mexico only ruled for 24 years, from 1822 to 1846 when the USA took it from them in the Mexican war. They really never had much of a presence in Alta California as it was then called. I researched it a little. The Capital was Monterrey and about 10,000 Mexicans were there and there was a Fort with a garrison of thousands of soldiers. San Francisco had something going on, maybe 5 to 10,000 people, Los Angeles was a sleepy little Pueblo of 3,500 or so and San Diego was a port facitility but with just a few hundred residents. Maybe 25,000 to 50,000 lived in the entire state. It was so far grom the seat of government, down in Mexico City, maybe 1,500 to 2,000 miles to Monterrey. There was no railroad in place, in fact the railroad was just coming into existence in the USA. The Mexican government had very little reason to be interested in Alta California at that time. The Spaniards had colonized it, not the Mexican government. BTW, I read that the Missions which the Spaniards had founded to bring Christianity to the Indians were converted to military baracks by the Mexicans.

It may be cruel and politically incorrect to say this, but I believe the Mexican people did better with Alta California, letting the USA develop it and set up the current enormous infra structure, sort of as surrogates for them and then then move back here and reap far more benefits for themselves than would have occurred had Mexico developed California.

The proof of the pudding is the condition of Baja California, left alone as Mexican territory. Until recently, with a lot of Americans going down their to retire, there was not much development at all, just the border Towns of Tijuana and Mexicali, Ensenada, Rosarita Beach and a few other beach type cities which concentrated on deep sea fishing.

feel it's occupied territory right now

Don Bernardo Yorba had at first a Spanish land grant that was rather large. When Mexico got it's independence, The Mexican land grant was about 250,000 acres from the Santa Ana river at the beach ( yes, where the gay waves are at the jetty) up to Riverside and out to Menifee.

When California became a state, He got taxed and had to dump all the land we know as Southern Cal for two cents and acre.

There goes my birthright.

BTW, I read that the Missions which the Spaniards had founded to bring Christianity to the Indians were converted to military baracks by the Mexicans.

Where did you read this? There is a book out there called "Alamos Our California Ancestors" that documents the early settlers and what they were like.

Another relative also documented in Alamos, was a soldier who walked with Junipero Serra as they founded the missions.
On one expedition, they were looking for Monterey. They had vague instructions that were a hundred years old and walked right past it.
They were looking for a large bay and a big mountain.
They founded San Francisco when they came upon a LARGE bay and a BIG mountain.

There was always a soldiers barracks at the missions. In the San Francisco expedition, there were four soldiers who walked up the coast.

It may be cruel and politically incorrect to say this, but I believe the Mexican people did better with Alta California, letting the USA develop it and set up the current enormous infra structure, sort of as surrogates for them and then then move back here and reap far more benefits for themselves than would have occurred had Mexico developed California.

It was neither government that "developed" California. It was all of the Spanish Ranchers and settlers who married into the families.

That is how James Irvine got a hold of South County. It was normal to put up land in a marriage and it would be returned after.
Theodico Yorba was not the best businessman and somehow allowed the groom to keep the land which he sold to James Irvine.

and when the white men gave blankets with small pox to the Indians, killed all the buffalo, basically did genocide on the American Indians, it was OK because the USA was going to pave Route 66 for George Maharis and Martin Milner to drive?

individuals should have no rights when faced with the USA's growth

Is there a law against shooting tricking, starving, cheating anyone who runs afoul of Manifest destiny? Aren't all those colored people who speak funny languages SPs anyway!

It worked for the US in Hawaii. It is obviously a successful action. we're on the fast flow program. If it's working, don't change a thing.

It's the American way.

The sheer amount of disrelated, off-subject yip-yap and jpokery that is going on on this thread lately is a HUGE indiscator of just how awesomely successful this board and this thread has been. It seems to me that all of the pain of "the old days on the Aopollo" and the Sea Org etc ec etc has all blown and the guys are VVVGIs and having a ball.

Congratulations are due to all but mainly on the guy who started this thread and who has closely monitored it and kept it alive all the way . . . The Incomparable

Snipped . . .

I also post on 4 other scn related forums, as well as our FZ forums. Its been very successful, averaging perhaps 20 new contacts per month for a decade. So I'm a committed div
6er, and the first course I ever did in COS was an FSM course run by Roger B in london in the sixties.

Sniped . . .

It's the best in us that lasts the longest, Terril :D :happydance:

But really, you didn't do my internationally famous PE/Intro Lecture?

If not, how in heaven's name did you get to my FSM course as your first action? (this would have been the second half of 1967 or early '68.)

I also ran the weekend Comm Course in those days . . . and there was a guy on it that I facilitated a HUGE gain and win for that looks a little like he could have matured into the photo we see of you in your avatar. :D

I was just thinking the same thing this week. I reminded myself though of just how long I'd been out already. I think it took me longer than most to recover. I can choose the platitudes I go by now. I'm looking at some of my favorite ones on my wall which I've clipped from Roger's posts. The present one reminding me that if I inhibit my create I end up living with someone else's create.

Hats,

You bring tears of joy to my eyes . . . cry for happy as the Japanese say.

I am delighted to serve . . . .
