AN INVALIDATION WOULD LIE IN THE SUGGESTION THAT CRITICISING SCIENTOLOGY, SYSTEMATICALLY IS A WASTE OF TIME IF SOMEONE HAD SUGGESTED THAT. AGAIN I ASK WHO? CERTAINLY NOT ME! I PERSONALLY HAVE WRITTEN REAMS OF MATERIAL ON THIS AND OTHER THREADS CRITICIZING SCIENTOLOGY AND L RON HUBBARD. I AM NOT ABOUT TO SUGGEST THAT ALL THE HOURS I HAVE SPENT CRITICISING SCIENTOLOGY WERE A WASTE OF TIME.

GET REAL BLIP! YOU ARE READING INTO WHAT I WROTE THINGS THAT ARE NOT THERE. TALK ABOUT ME PUTTING WORDS INTO FREE'S MOUTH, ALL OF YOUR COMPLAINTS ABOUT ME CONSIST OF YOU PUTTING WORDS INTO MY MOUTH
THAT IMPLY HIDDEN INTENT IN MY SHORT POST THAT SIMPLY IS NOT THERE.

You've got your knickers in a twist. I was simply admonishing you for cheering on the disparagement - it was MAB's original comment that contained the disparagement in relation to criticism; you were "validating" that by encouragement, in my opinion. As is a Scientologist's practise, you are accusing me of that which you do yourself.

You state, "Free never said the subject was not worthy of reading or writing about. Where did that come from?"

Free gave a link to a new pro Sci discussion board and then added, "Why bother, $ci is debunked." Free is inconsistent, he posts a link to a pro Sci discussion board and then adds, "Why bother, $ci is debunked." To me, if someone comments, why bother (reading a pro Sci discussion board) the subject is debunked, I can safely assume that he is suggesting that the debunked subject Sci is something not worthy of reading (or writing about as well because when you go onto a discussion board you generally both read and write).

See, I read it as more of an utterance of frustration that, despite the debunking of Scientology, some genius has gone and started yet another outlet for dissemination. Rather than check it out, confirm the data, you put words into someone else's mouth. Tsk tsk.

I find it frightening that an intelligent person such as yourself cannot connect the dots and figure out that Free is suggesting not to read a pro Scio site or post there, when he says "Why bother, $cio is debunked" and yet you read into my post to MAB that I have invalidated Free. Free says something and you deny it was said. I did not say something and you insist that I implied it.

Help me out. Please point to where Free said Scientology was not worth reading or writing about. Also, please, point to where he said not to post on the new board.

I see that you lowered your charges against me from invalidating Free to demeaning and disparaging him. I am willing to meet you half way on this. I found Free's comments inconsistent, promoting a pro Sci discussion board and then saying his "why bother because the subject has been debunked" comment. We already know that you and Free do not care for any Scio tech. If you guys want to comment periodically and remind us of your feelings about this matter, I respect that and think it is a good thing to have your presence on the board. All valid points of view need to be represented here!

What sparked my retort against Free was an earlier episode when our number of hits was 66,000 or so. A poster named Challenge was very offended any time I mentioned our views stats and she and some others were saying that the thread had lost its way and was no longer of its earlier quality level. As the thread host, I can view the list of posters daily and Challange and the other people who were knocking the thread were all reading the thread every day and my response was, if it is no good anymore, why read it every day?

Of course all opinions are welcome, anywhere on ESMB. Thank goodness.

Maybe I'm not as intelligent as you give me credit for. Can you just explain how Challenge's comment about this thread may have lost its way and your celebration of statistics is linked to Free's comment about a completely separate Board that has started up. Seems mighty tenuous to me.

As to why Challenge read this thread it every day - who knows? I don't enjoy the thread but I do track various posters who, in their wisdom, drop the occasional piece of gold which helps my research into Scientology and Scientologists post-cult. Some readers appear to receive genuine succour and comfort which is why I don't troll here.

That is my main gripe about people such as Free. They knock something but spend a lot of time reading and writing about it. I accept your explanation that people such as you and Free are doing a public service by reading this thread and reminding people over and over that you feel that scio has been totally debunked. That is a valid public service, as you state, so I hope that you and Free both continue posting here and offer an anti Scio point of view whenever people mention that they have had wins of some sort with Scio based procedures.

I am a lefty but I spend a lot of time reading right-wing material. Its very difficult to be an effective critic if you don't understand the subject. and keep up with it. I would encourage everyone to read material they object to, if only to question their own opinions. Also, I have found in reading stuff I object to that, sometimes, they are right!

If you do understand Scientology critics and value criticism, then, perhaps, you might understand the level of frustration felt by some when yet another outlet is opened up on the internet and is being promoted on ESMB.

Having said my piece, I'll bow out now. Thank you for your civility. I see the thread is coming up to your 10,00th post, congratulations. Rock on.

EDIT: Oh, and good luck with the teeth. I'm off two root canal jobs next week - yippee!!

Common ground exists in the left-right political debate

Thanks for ending up on a positive note. Good luck with your root canals! You make an excellent point with the left right political debate! Folks on the left and on the right can debate until the cows come home and they will never find agreement. The best one can hope for is to agree on some small point, perhaps something like both agree that the other party genuinely believes they are patriotic.

So it is with you and me debating small points about who said what. It is a fruitless pursuit and is not worth putting a lot of time into. Agreement will never come, even partial agreement. We are viewing from two different points of view. I feel the best approach is for each party to make their argument to the best of their ability one time and them engage in one counter debate where a challenge is responded to. After that, both parties should be civil to one another and just agree to disagree.

The people observing the debate form their own opinions as to who is correct and who is in error or they may feel that both parties are equally right or equally wrong. Everyone moves ahead a little richer, having had the opportunity to express and defend their own opinion and hear an opposing opinioin and hear that being defended. That is about as good as it gets with left versus right debates or debates between those who believe that Scio tech has some merit and those who believe it has no merit. IMHO it is worthwhile engaging in such an activity BRIEFLY and without having at all costs to prove oneself right.

I think that what it boils down to is that if someone really feels that they have made some gains using Scio tech and they feel they are doing better in life having had that tech applied to them, all the "Scientific" studies in the world will never cause them to change their opinion that on occasion, Scio tech can produce some good results on people.

What happens next is that the anti Scio person will claim that the pro Scio person has experienced a placebo effect or has been hypnotized into thinking he made a gain which he really hasn't made or he is a robot or has been brain washed etc., etc. When it gets down to this level where one party is asserting he or she has made gains and the other person claims no gains at all were actually achieved but rather only a delusioin of making gains has been achieved, then a TOTAL BREAKDOWN of communication occurs. The two sides both start attacking one another. Why go down this slippery slope time after time after time? It goes nowhere.

Both parties feel with all their heart, mind and soul that they are right and in actual fact, they ARE both right in their own universes. Once this point is realized, there is no further need to debate. Both sides are right and everyone involved moves on with respect and good will to the other side.

Why bother, $ci is debunked.

So, if you believe that to be true why do you waste so much time commenting about it?

Why do you use bakerology to defend it?

EX-SCN POSTER: But blah blah blah.

MARK BAKER HANDLING #3: Your blah blah blah reveals and says more about your (bad characteristic) than it does about (Hubbard/Scientology).

It's funny, but it's not a joke.

Take a look at Baker's responses when he gets nervous by being in the proximity of facts about Scientology's tech. It's incredibly fun once you know what he does time and time again.

The commands are always run as follows: 1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3....(to "eternity").

Standard Bakerology!

The invalidation lies in the suggestion that criticising Scientology is a waste of time. For sure, the subject has been scientifically, systematicaly, throughly, and anecdotally, debunked over and over again. Yet, there are still some trapped in the Hubbardian mind-meld who need assistance. Suggesting that a person wanting to help is wasting their time in a quest to be of assistance is, if not invalidating, then, at least, demeaning. Suggesting that the response of Free's comment was "simply asking a question" is disingenuous - how about I ask you a simple question: when did you first beat your wife? Geddit? You also misrepresent Free's position when you attempt to put words into their mouth - Free never said the subject was not worthy of reading or writing about. Where did that come from?

Perhaps you don't share my viewpoint on this, but I see little need for you to cheer people on in their disparagement of others.

My post was in response to a pro $ci site, advertised on this thread. I never said $ci wasn't worth talking about, happens every day on ESMB. My point was pro$ci sites have the life expectancy of a deer caught in the head lights of an oncoming car.

I was bashing a new pro$ci site. I didn't "bash" anyone here, didn't comment on the content of the thread regarding "wins". I said $ci is debunked. This is my gripe with people such as lkwdblds. The assumption that a general comment about $ci is a personal attack. I bashed a pro$ci site. Not anyone in particular.

Thanks for posting this FoTi. This is a little different twist on the same theme but is close enough to establish commonality. It's amazing how foxy Cameron Diaz took Julie Roberts' groom away......and then there is the old standard, number 1 on the charts I believe in 1950 when I was in 5th grade.

Hearing it again, it is amazing how beautifully Patti Pages sang it and it stills brings some tears to the eyes just like in did tway, way back in 1950.

BTW - this is post 9997 on this thread, who is going to bag post 1,000?

Great response!

no $ci isn't "debunked," just go to any Sea Org billets, and you will find an ungodly supply of bunk beds. I did it only a few weeks ago.

picture.php

Now that is funny! Spirit of play, that is what we need more of.

Speaking of bunk beds. As I said in my Apollo story, when I was taken down as CCLA Programs Chief, my berthing was transfered to the paint locker as a punishment. There was only one bunk bed in there, two beds high. If you slept on the top bunk, the ceiling was too low to squeeze in so one had to use the bottom bunk. On this bunk, if you slept on your back, your nose actually was touching the springs of the bunk above you. You could not turn on your side or turn over so all night long your nose would be touching those springs. I "slept" there for a couple of weeks right before I routed out of the Sea Org.

The S. O. was never debunked! There were always plenty of bunk beds.
HOW ABOUT DEBRIEFED?
Since there were no laundry facilities on the Yacht Apollo and we only got liberty once every two weeks and only if our stats were up, it was very difficult to wash one's underwear. Sometimes you would see guys attempting to wash their briefs in a bucket of salt water. This produced a vile product, especially of the briefs were stained. This hideous amalgam of cotton, duty stains and brine would be hung up to dry on the top corner of our lockers and caused an obnoxious odor throughout the main berthing area.

Hubbard never wrote a policy or Flag Order on how to wash one's underwear onboard ship. I guess the reason is that it just could not be done properly. Hubbard just closed his eyes and "not-ised" the existence of this problem.

In summary, the S. O. was never debunked but it was debriefed to the extent that all S.O. members had to wear unwashed or washed in a bucket and not fully dried briefs underneath their spiffy S.O. uniforms.

Courageoous woman, New and Incisive Posts....

"M", a native of Australia, began reading the Apollo thread recently and as a result sent me two outstanding videos from a Canadian woman named Nan who is a friend of hers. Nan relates her dealings with the C of S starting in the 1970 - 1973 period where this thread begins. The videos are very long, the first is 49 minutes and the second 26 minutes but Nan is such a coherent and clear thinker and speaker and the story is so interesting that the videos go by fast.

Nan is reading this thread now as well. These videos were originally prepared for the Australian Inquiry into the C of S conducted last year. I heard both of these videos in full and highly recommend them to everyone. Here are the two links:

My post was in response to a pro $ci site, advertised on this thread. I never said $ci wasn't worth talking about, happens every day on ESMB. My point was pro$ci sites have the life expectancy of a deer caught in the head lights of an oncoming car.

I was bashing a new pro$ci site. I didn't "bash" anyone here, didn't comment on the content of the thread regarding "wins". I said $ci is debunked. This is my gripe with people such as lkwdblds. The assumption that a general comment about $ci is a personal attack. I bashed a pro$ci site. Not anyone in particular.

Sentence 1 - True
Sentence 2 - True, you did not bash anyone here, etc.
Sentence 3 - You did say $ci is debunked. You also then said "Why bother?" inferring "Why bother reading it."

I have not read very many of your posts and do not know your philosophy or what you believe. If someone prints, $cio is debunked, why bother reading or posting on its new thread, I AM ALWAYS GOING TO TAKE THAT TO MEAN THAT YOU FEEL THAT READING ABOUT IT IS A WASTE OF TIME. THAT IS WHAT "WHY BOTHER MEANS TO ME. I am not a stupid person but am above average in intelligence and I swear to you that this is what I took your statement to signify. NOW THAT YOU HAVE CLARIFIED YOUR POSITION, I SEE THAT I WAS INTERPRETING YOU INCORRECTLY. IN THE FUTURE, I WILL NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE.

I think there is a lesson here for both of us to learn. For me, it is to not jump to conclusions and for you, you like to use as few words as possible to make your point, which is good (see my signature line at the bottom of all my posts), I admire saying a lot in few words. Even so, it is my honest opinion that you either used too few words to state your position or you assumed that all the readers here, including me, knew your earlier history of posting and would figure out what you meant. If you made an error, it was only in either using too few words to make yourself clear or in assuming that the thread members knew more about your past posts than they do.

I am not insisting that you did make an error. Perhaps it is my error in reading into your short comments something that was not there. This is very possible and if I did so, then the error was mine and not yours. I really feel that we do not have any point of disagreement and that we are on the same page. The upset arose through a simple misunderstanding having to do with the usage of words. The follow up comments by Blip and yourself have fully cleared this up for me. I am happy you are both posting on this thread and value your inputs. I see them as honest and straightforward. Opposing views which are honest and straightforward are treasures since they induce people with opposing ideas to look deeper and expand their viewpoints.

Please carry on expressing your opinions and feelings. They are much appreciated.

Oooo... Lots of noise outside the Apollo thread. I just wasted an hour catching up. I had forgotten "Thread Tools." "Ignore Thread" works for me.

What sucked me in is I saw a recent post from the FaceMan. He's worth reading. But in the end, the reward did not compensate the effort so I guess he got sucked in, too.

What I find ironic is that the slaggers and degraders have had exactly the effect on this board that the person they slag the most - LRH - predicted that such people would always have on an area where they were let loose. What gowes arouns comes around.

I would suggest that a facility be installed into the software on this board so that the guy who starts a thread - its "host" - be allowed to monitor that particular thread and delete any post he considers unwanted, and also to block any person he wants to from posting on his thread. This way the slaggers can have their free seech on their own threads - which the rest of us can ignore, and the decent threads can remain up tone.

Yes. I always liked the idea of letting the rock-slammers audit the rock-slammers.

I would like to start a thread and have complete control over it.

But I am just a control freak.
