Heber Jentzsch Told His Brother: "I'll Never Get Out of Here Alive"

David Jentzsch, 80, tells me that the last time he spoke to his brother Heber, 76, was about three years ago. And at that time he urged his younger brother to break out of Scientology's International Base near Hemet, California.

"He said, 'I don't think I can ever get out of here.' But I told him, 'You have to try.' And the last thing he said to me was, 'I'll never get out of here alive'."

Since then, David says, the workers at the base have refused to take his call.

One does wonder how someone is held captive against their will? Is Jentzsch allowing himself too be imprisioned? If not, isn't that reason and cause to have law enforcement arrive on premises with a valid search warrant for suspected criminal activities?

Great article.

I agree with the commenters who suggested getting Heber's 42 brothers and sisters and their extended families together for a "Free Heber" rally/ protest outside Int Base. What a show that would be!

Put that in your washing machine and spin it, Scientology!

I'm not familiar with US law, but it seems to that some grounds now exist for the Police to look into Heber's situation.

Christ, it seems to me that the authorities have had more than enough reason to raid that fucking place for years now. I'm pissed every time I'm reminded that it has yet to happen. I'm sick of my senators' and reps' carefully worded avoidance of the issue when I call or email. I think we should all don Free Heber tees and storm the fucking base.

Seriously, they can't shoot us all.

SCIENTOLOGY IS ARMED AND DANGEROUS

28. In 1991 I had to prepare the base so that it could be defended against the possibility of being taken over by the authorities in a time of crisis. There are approx. 750 people at the base. I was in charge of a project designing the base security system, the perimeter fence, the ultra razor barriers, the lighting of the perimeter fence, the electronic monitors, the concealed microphones, the ground sensors, the motion sensors and hidden cameras which were installed and all over the area -- even outside the base.
29. Church monies were used to purchase semi-automatic assault rifles (HK 91 assault rifles capable of firing 300-350 rounds of ammunition a minute, 45 caliber pistols, .380 automatic weapons and twelve gauge shotguns were stockpiled. These weapons were not registered. Church monies were also used to buy the ammunition.
30. Church monies were also used to purchase a large amount of pounds of gunpowder for the construction of various types of explosive devices to be used in the defense of the base.
31. The motorcycle guards were trained to carry loaded cocked 45 caliber pistols. The eagle scout, mounted high above the base, was trained to carry a high powered rifle with a telescopic scope. There is also a 1,000 millimeter telescope up with 'eagle'.
32. I developed three classifications of intruder and established the level of deadly force to use for each. In addition to firearms, the guards were taught how to effectively wield little batons. The basic things like striking to the center of the heart, the center of the solar plex and then to the side of the head, etc.
33. At church expense, I trained the security guards and other base personnel in the use of these weapons and explosives. I also trained them in the close quarter use of fatal force. We built a combat range for training purposes and I instructed Scientologists on various ways of shooting people. I also trained them in night vision and ambush techniques. We used a ravine that was a natural round shield so the noise would not cause any noisy inquiries."

So you're saying they CAN shoot us all? :p

It wouldn't suprise me if the report is true that there are people trained to defend the base in the event of a raid. I know they had specially trained SO members toting rifles and pistols on FLB because I saw them with my own eyes, and I was told that during the LA riots specially trained SO members were in charge of protecting the churches in CA. I tend to reject the notion that all SO members or large numbers of them are trained for combat, though, simply because giving slaves access to and know how of weaponry and close quarter combat skills seems really, really stupid from a slavemaster's POV.

There is the Hat Pack on here for getting someone out of Int. Do you suppose it would work on someone of Heber's ranking? Or is it too risky for the Dwarf to offload him?

I think he knows too much for DM to ever willingly let him go. :( My question would be, if the opportunity to leave presented itself, would Heber take it?

One has to be in a physical condition - and have access to money - somewhere - to run, get over that wall, avoid the razors - get down the road, avoid osa in airport, train and bus stations. One has to have somewhere to go. Or else be young enough to not care. The young are more resilient and can handle those kind of unknowns - probably because they have no real life experience. It makes for brave souls, youth does. The old - - not so brave. Or maybe the old are more rational. Who knows . . . It just is.

I don't think Heber in his mid 70's, having been a prisoner for years, on crap rations and hard physical labor, with no medical care, is in any kind of condition to get out on his own. If some kind of outside thing was set up, to get him out, even then it would be precarious and hazardous. He is OLD.

And does he even want to get out? What is out here for him - now? He is too old to get a job/work - he probably has no social security, having been in co$ most of his life. He has NOTHING out here, and now his kid is dead.

Heber, IMHO, gave up a long time ago, and if authorities walked in guns drawn and asked him if he wanted an escort out, my guess is he'd say NO. Out to WHAT?
How would he feed and house himself?

Any scno lurkers out there, wondering what happens when ya get old or sick in the co$ - take note. This is your end - the 'HOLE'. It is set up to expedite the final end. A final solution for the co$. You have outlived your value to the co$ and they are disposing of you. After WWII the ones who did that were put on trial for war crimes - and executed.

Based on what he'd said to Alex and hiis brother (which, granted has been a matter of years ago), I would tend to think he would go. The prospect of a homeless shelter to a 76 year old would probably be a deal breaker to leaving, but if Karen wouldn't support him (and she seems to care very much about him), one of the 42 siblings probably would. I have to think that he would be easy to convince if presented with this.

Now whether or not to demand a welfare check.... my raw public diletante experience makes me wholly unqualified to know whether that would work or get him killed. I happen to think that the idea may have some merit, but I'm not gonna act on it.

And if int base is heavily armed, well, the FBI will know that going in. My dealings with them have been limited, but I was amazed at how much research they did on me at one point. It was actually somewhat disturbing....

We have to consider the Stockholm Syndrome, sadly.

If he wants to leave, it would probably have to be facilitated by a group that has created a support network for him, and is commited enough to help him out an ongoing basis. I don't think there'd be any shortage of volunteers.

Would Karen be able to take him in? Or any other relatives? Maybe she could help facilitate that. If something were in place for him and that could be relayed to him there is a good chance he would go. If he has been convinced he has nowhere to go then I can't see him making a move toward the door.

the problem remains that he would probably claim to be staying of his own will.

worth trying though if interested parties could have a go at it.

Well, worst case scenario, he can stay with me while his attorneys sew the living shit out of the church to ensure he has a retirement fund. ::thumbsup::

I'm sure that if he could be gotten out of there, there are dozens of people who would see to it that he had a place to stay and food and medical care.

This is so very sad.

Heber clearly knows that things are very wrong and that he should leave, but he is unable to do anything about it.

The prison isn’t the guards, or the fences topped with razor-wire, it is in his mind. Obviously, Miscavige will never voluntarily allow Heber to leave. If he ever spoke out, with the universal respect that Scns have for him, it would be game over for Miscavige.

But, I really can’t understand his brother’s attitude. If it were me and it appeared that Heber was being held against his will, I would gather together all his siblings and all their children and grand-children and turn up en-masse with the media and law enforcement, demanding his release.
