Scientology warning
In an NRL season swamped by the supplements scandal, a former first-grader has warned of another danger: the Church of Scientology, a religion that cost him his family. Joe Reaiche, who lined up at fullback with the Roosters, Bulldogs and Rabbitohs, became involved with the church when he was a player in the late 1970s. He recruited former Roosters, Bears and Dragons prop Pat Jarvis and Dragons hooker Chris Guider to Scientology and deeply regrets doing so. Reaiche was excommunicated by the church in 2005 and says along with costing him his relationship with his children and about $400,000, it ruined his friendship with Jarvis, who is still part of the set-up. ''I'm not friends with Pat any more for obvious reasons, but I have recently renewed my friendship with Chris Guider."
