A scientologist's kid, murder, mental illness

My cousin lives in Santa Barbara and grew up in scientology there. I used to live there too and was in the org some when I was little. I remember a woman named Nancy Dillingham who had a kid we were friends with whose name I can't remember. Now my cousin, who is still in scientology, mentioned really offhand to me that this kid murdered his stepmother?? I was shocked, and googled it, but only found Elli Perkins - not the same. I'm trying to find out what the deal is, was he mentally ill? If so was he on or off meds when he killed her? Is it another example of a sick person not getting needed care due to scientology influence? I know the kid is in a halfway house now, and I think this happened maybe 10 or more years ago. Nancy is still in Scientology. Apparently it's an off-limits subject as my aunt and uncle made clear when my cousin brought it up. Anyone know anything about it?

Hi. You're referring to Casey (now 32) who was living with his dad, Ted (Theodore Cooke Dillingham) in San Francisco. You can read about the murder:

http://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/S-F-man-held-in-fatal-stabbing-of-stepmother-2648645.php

The DA recognized that Casey was seriously mentally ill & he was committed to a mental hospital. His father said he was schizophrenic.

Ted still lives in the home he shared with Phyllis in 2003. http://radaris.com/~Theodore-Dillingham/218335220

Ted established the Phyllis Jackson Memorial Fund for the Arts.

Nancy Dillingham is still in the cult. She heads the Santa Barbara OT Committee.

From Nancy Dillingham's Scientology page it sounds like she used to work for Bob Duggan's Computer Motion robotic surgery company and that she uses Scientology technology to help her sick son:

"Hello, my name is Nancy Dillingham, and here is a little bit about myself:

I work in Marketing Communications for a company that produces robotic technology for the operating room. This technology is used by surgeons to improve their ability to operate on patients with less pain and faster recovery time. "

Her success:

"What I like best about Scientology is the technology that I have learned that I can use to help others around me. Whether my son is sick, my friend is upset or my co-worker is confused, I can use what I know to help them. And that makes me happy."

Goals
[SIZE=-1]Quality family entertainment and diversity of performance were the goals of the group. The Grand Finale Reception at each Congress was attended by families of Congress attendees as well as those of Computer Motion employees. Pride of performance was essential. Each band member was encouraged to perform solo and frequently songs were chosen to feature different performers.

Thanks Smurf. That makes me really sad. I remember him as a pixieish little redhead tagging along after us. I hope to god he's managing his illness now. Nancy...well I can't imagine what it was like for her but for f$&* sake if that's not enough to make you open your eyes...or I suppose it might be enough to glue you in forever.

I'm sorry.

I intended to mock the fact that she doesn't exactly exude OTness.

Obviously I did more than that.

That's okay. Mostly I understand that people don't mean to be hurtful, just sometimes it gets to me more than others - the inbuilt assumption in this society that these people are less - when, just to spend a day in their shoes - you wonder how they don't go insane. I wonder anyway. I know you're a good and kind person.

We have to, as a society...totally reconstruct the way we view and speak about all people having so-called "disabilities". Especially those people with cognitive impairments, sensory processing disorders, those whose brains are hard-wired differently than most, or who have mental illness.

We've collectively just got to grow up and get compassionate, empathetic and realistic about this!

Interesting subject.

I personally know an 'idiot savant'. I'm not kidding. Just like 'Rain Man' with Tom Cruise and Dustin Hoffman.

This guy is definitely wired different, but he's not the basic definition of 'idiot'.

He's the most amazing computer expert I know. It always blows my mind how many computer processes he knows by heart. It makes me look like a retard. This guy is a screaming genius.

However, he's very awkward at just about every other social skill. It gets deeper, but I think I've made my point.

I for sure don't understand all that this means, but it's freaky. Something to do with specialized consciousness. Like musicians. The music is too complicated for one player to handle, so it's divided up.

But no one can even get close to touching him at his specialty. In the movie mentioned, they kick people with this advanced ability out of Vegas because they know they will loose to them.

This is this person in the computer field.

He recently completely gave up helping anyone with their computers anymore.

I told you he was smart.

Is it the lady who invented something related to farmed animal feeding ????
I listened few years ago to a lecture of her - very passionate lady and humoristic too!

Yes, she has built a very successful career as a consultant on Animal behavior, especially for the American Cattle Industry, revolutionizing the way most Cattle here are treated now!

She says because she is also a "visual thinker", as they are, she understands them better than most of us do!

I remember this.

They were having troubles getting the cattle to move forward and thought that it was because the cattle knew they were being slaughtered. They were acting terrified. This woman said no, it was because there was some sort of small object in their walking pathway and it made them too suspicious. Sure enough, with the object removed, the cattle were happy as ever and moved forward normally.

Brilliant.

(Horses and sheep act similarly, too)
