From the 1980 Affidavit of Tonja Burden:

"At the Fort Harrison I remained LRH's personal messenger. I observed LRH control the operation of Scientology in various 'orgs' worldwide from Fort Harrison. I coded and decoded messages to and directly from Hubbard. Hubbard used approximately 15 codes at this time to conceal his operations, programs and policies, which he disseminated world wide. I personally delivered messages concerning Operation Snow White, Operation Freak out, Operation Goldmine, and other Scientology secret and illegal operations. I also filed these in Hubbard's personal filing cabinet, and later in filing cabinets in the G.O." http://www.lisamcpherson.org/burden.htm

So, it isn't true that these criminal activites originated from the G.O. only and he knew nothing about.

What a messed up man LRH was.

Good post!

Good to keep the truth up in front of newbies and lurkers whose numbers are swelling thanks to the inability of the OSA goons to see that their own black PR is recoiling on them like a mother fucker.

Veda - put up the story of how he attempted to end Paulette Coopers' life!
That should give people an idea of the warmth and fuzziness of Hubbard - mans greatest friend.

If anyone knows Tonya Burden(she probably has a different last name now) or knows where she lives, or has her email or phonenumber, I would like to get in touch with her. I knew her in 1972-74 from South Lake Tahoe Mission and later the Apollo. I worked with her father as a carpenter, and he taught me how to count cards at 21.(Blackjack). Tonya and her family lived in an ancient RV near Stateline , Nevada. Her parents went into the SO at ASHO, and Tonya went to Flag to become a Messenger.

If my memory serves me, "Tonja C Burden" used to post on alt.religion.scientology

Arnie Lerma or some of the 'old guard' posters of alt.religion.might know how to contact her.

A little more about Paulette Cooper. The first attempt to have her "terminatedly handled" by having her arrested or committed to a mental institution occurred in 1972. This was called, I think, called Operation Dynamite. Two bomb threat letters were sent to a Scientology "Church" and linked to Cooper.

By that time her life had been thoroughly investigated, and "friends" had been planted near her to "help" her. Cooper was aware of the overt harassment, but (understandably) not of the ongoing covert activities.

Hubbard seemed to have a special "thing" with women, and when Hubbard became aware that Cooper was in contact with former ("erased") wife, Sara Northrup, that may have put Paulette Cooper at the top of the enemies list.

Op Dynamite resulted in Cooper being arrested and brought before a Grand Jury. She consented to a sodium pentathol test (truth serum), and the prosecution of her case was called off. Nonetheless, she had not been exonerated, and her life had been deeply affected.

Still, Hubbard wasn't satisfied. After all, Scientology had come *so* close to succeeding. So another attempt was made to "finish the job," and in spring of 1976 the plans/paperwork for this "op" were put together. This new re-started Op against Cooper was called OP Freak out.

It was going to be a pure covert op, in that it would begin and end without seeming to involve Scientology in any way. Hubbard's covert Ops tech was going to be used, complete with multiple channels of attack/influence, stage setting (created incidents), suitable guises, etc. Hubbard, fresh from the covert "taking" of Clearwater, Florida - even though he had recently fled Clearwater by car after his cover was blown, ending up in Washington, DC - appears to have been very confident about the effectiveness of his own covert Intel tech, and certain of his own invincibility.

After all, he had "gotten away with" so much up to that point. And what is known through the Internet is only the tip of the iceberg.

For example, Paulette Cooper had assembled a three binder collection of Scientology documents having only to do with herself. These were the documents that had been seized by the FBI in 1977. (And the revealing of these documents was incidental, or even accidental, as the FBI was not concerned with Cooper - or any other private citizens or with local government officials - but only with their own affairs, and with government offices and files having been illegally accessed and stolen.) The assembled "time track" on Cooper, featuring every minute detail of her life, was four pages long - legal size paper - in small print. Then came the paperwork of the Ops against her. They were many. So far, on the Net, I've seen maybe 1% of these documents.

So, as previously noted, what is broadly known is the tip of the iceberg.

Add to this, Scientology's practice of destroying evidence and silencing witnesses, and it's amazing that we know what we do know. Scientology, after all, is a secretive cult based on (its founder's words) the "tight conspiracy" model (not unlike organized crime).

Here are some posts from a few other threads:

I quite sure that Hubbard directed this personally.. But I can't prove it. But it was/is well known that even as Mary Sue and Jane Kember held those posts they did, nothing was done without Ron overlooking, approving and/or ordering it.

I never met the man in person. I was in the Guardian's Office Europe 1979 to mid '81. Well, we had telex'es clattering in from 'Ron' all the time. He was very much into anything the GO did, was my impression.. And we carefully cut the corner that said 'Ron' off of the slips before archiving. No document were to expose Ron as a leader or executive authority of anything anywhere.

-snip-

Note also in Nancy Many's book she relates being asked to, IIRC steal Drs reports of Paulette Cooper and refused. Other OSA people were asked to do this instead and they then got a commendation from LRH personally.

A while back you had this exchange with Marty. It was one of your better moments. (For background, Marty didn't join staff until 1978. Tonja's account, re. OP Freakout, concerned events from 1976. Marty's angry reaction of absolute denial mirrors the standard CofS response.)

Sheesh! This is not looking good for Ron the Humanitarian. But wait--

On the other hand, it is manifestly unfair to judge Hubbard by MEST evidence.

Everyone knows that Ron did not operate in the MEST universe, so that alone proves his innocence.

What better alibi could you want? Ron wasn't even here!!

Hip Hip Hooray!

For what it's worth, I knew Tonya, personally. She was a real sweet and decent kid and very honest and sincere. I have no doubt what so ever that she told the truth re: Snow White and Freak Out.

Thanks for the condescension.

Tried to search my original posts on his blog but his search engine sucks.

Can you find all my posts there on this?

One was that Paulette in her legal settlement agreed to not name LRH
as part of operation Freakout. Or something like that.

Took me hours of research.

In theory you have it in a few clicks.

Go on, make my day. :)

Thanks for this, Veda - excellent account.

More than any other single chapter in the history of Hubbard this story must be known to any and all, far and wide, especially those who would place their mental health, spiritual wellbeing and personal freedom at the disposal of this ill-conceived cult and its founder.

It seems to me to be the most despicable, depraved and unconscionable - there are not the words enough to sufficiently describe the actions - things one human being could do to another. As an auditor I saw the depths of despair and anguish a person could be caused in life and indeed became an auditor to free and did free people from those depths. How Hubbard could have purposely caused another being such misery to the point of setting up her suicide - only failed by a hair - I just can't think with.

Hubbard wrote glowingly of his postulated higher states of awareness and the Scn flock fawned over him and them - only they failed to get the news about Paulette Cooper. Had they, they would have realized Hubbard never made Human. By his many acts of inhumane cruelty he defined himself as no more than subhuman detritus.

As for the living dead in the GO who executed his orders, they sank right down to subhuman with him, running in his valence. They lost awareness of who they were, where they were - the United States of America, home of the greatest push towards individual freedom in several centuries. They forgot about the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, the Criminal Code of a slew of states and the US.

I bet Paul Haggis could make an Academy Award winner of the Paulette Cooper story, the movie.

Well, this begs the question, where are these documents and how can we make them available for all the researchers?

It's out there somewhere and, someday, someone will probably scan it all onto the Net. Much of the unpublished material is internal communication containing code words. Most people's eyes would quickly glaze over after reading a few pages. Motivating people to read the available Hubbard spying, infiltration, and covert attack instructions (tech) is difficult enough. Even though some has been available on the Net for years, it still remains only partially understood by many - so it seems.

For example, several times, I've explained that the word "defense" is used as a euphemism for "smoke screen," or "PR cover," when used in documents such as 'Targets, Defense', but it falls on deaf ears. I note that "wogs" reading this usually come away confused, as it says, "Our best defense is that we break no laws." Well, that really means, "Out best smoke screen is that we break no laws." But this little bit of "decoding" doesn't seem to penetrate.

Anyway... here's the recent Nancy Many interview clip video (already on another thread http://www.forum.exscn.net/showthre...Ron-Hubbard-video-plus-Tonja-Burden-affidavit ): http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=wY76WHmRlYA
