IN the early 60's, L Ron Hubbard, in his TRs, or Training Routines, includes the use of the book Alice in Wonderland, telling adepts to read lines from this book to their partner, and then the other way around.
Here is an image from the then CLASSIFIED US KUBARK Interrogation manual, the page is titled "Alice in Wonderland" I feel current, recovering and ex-members of Scientology might find this of interest.

The entire KUBARK Manual is webbed here for your convenience:

The entire once CLASSIFIED CIA/ARMY KUBARK Interrogation Manual is one hell of a read. In the footnotes at the end, close readers, will note that Interrogators are told to read Joost Meerloo's RAPE OF THE MIND, which I had previously webbed after finding the material in it astoundingly valuable, in order to "find out how your own mind works"

It's amazing to me how many exes will still swear up and down that Scientology had/has nothing to do with Tavistock or the the US gov't (read CIA/DIA)... :coolwink:

Everybody please read ALL of these documents, then make up your own mind!!!

Everybody who had ever done even a little bit of Scientology needs to read all of these documents on the links, to fully understand the Truth about Scientology. It is anti-kool-aide! :happydance: :cheerleader:

Arnie, you've done a great public service by pulling this information together out of the dusty archives of out of print books and obscure govt. manuals, etc. The confusion technique is aptly named and in my mind fully understanding the concept goes a loooong way to explaining the rationale for creating all the "space opera" that is at the upper levels of Scientology. As a non I feel like finally get it!!! At that point in time, Ron was crazy like a fox!

My hat's off to you! :cheers2:

Thank You! Take a :bravo:

Hubbard had imaginary enemies EVERYWHERE

I think it was part of his "confusion tech" to keep everybody on the edge all the time.

Hubbard did not want any body around his followers who might have a clue what he was up to, so he created and named as enemies an ever increasing # of people and groups who were out to get him that we had to stay away from and disconnect from.

I think there is a lot more to the enemies thing with Hubbard than just trying to confuse other people. Not sure about the Alice in Wonderland thing though - that doc was an interesting read.

Alice in wonderland

I took the Liberty of transcribing to text form for quoting purposes.

KUBARK COUNTER INTELLIGENCE INTERROGATION MANUAL 1963

DE-CLASSIFIED 1996

TECHNIQUE
Alice in wonderland, page 76

The Aim of the Alice in Wonderland or confusion technique is to confound
the expectations and conditioned reactions of the interrogatee*.He is
accustomed to a world that makes sense; at least to him, a world of
continuity and logic, a predictable world. He clings to his world to reinforce
his identity and powers of resistance.

The confusion technique is designed not only to obliterate the familiar but
to replace it with the weird. Although this method can be employed by a
single interrogator, it is better adapted by two or three. When the subject
enters the room, the first interrogator asks a double talk question--one
which seems straight forward but which is essentially non-sensicle.
Whether the interrogatee tries to answer or not, the second interrogator
follows up (interrupting any attempted response) with a wholly unrelated
and illogical query. Sometimes two or more questions are asked
similtaneously. Pitch ,tone and volume of the interrogators are unrelated to
the import of the questions. No pattern of questions and answers is
permitted to develop, nor do the questions themselves relate logically to
each other. In this strange atmosphere the subject finds the pattern of
speech and thought which he has learned to consider normal have been
replaced by an eerie meaninglessness. The interrogatee may start laughing
or refuse to take the situation seriously. But as the process continues,
day after day if necessary, the subject begins to try to make sense of the
situation, which becomes mentally intolerable. Now he is likely to make
significant admissions, or even to pour out his story, just to stop the flow
of babble which assails him. This technique may be especially effective
with the orderly obstinate type.

The Alice in Wonderland Technique or confusion technique is the confusing volumous Subject of scientology,
back flips, contradictions, and confusions. No wonder a lot of staff are possums in the spot light.

When a problem arises in a scn business, policy is selected, you find some agreement with it , then a similar situation arises later which someone suggests have you read this other policy, then that policy totally contradicts the first. Confused. These earlier policies are not made background though as its a technical degrade , the other thing that is degraded ius the mental aptitude of the recipient. It does not appear to be a problem of further differentiation to separate differences and then understand.

The other point is the subject is so vast with millions of words and complex that the new staff not having aclue what they are doing asks for assistance, he may receive 4 or 5 different interpretations and policies that each one of the 4 or 5 find workable., these in turn a contradiction.

I find that even the way hubbard writes where he strings out and entire sentence with commas is a confusion.
Separating out Hubbards opinion, from an actual lecture where he explains over and over ramblings and very little time on what you need to do, step a , step b, step c.

Rant over.

As stated in the real source... "

Alice in wonderland or The Confusion Technique"

The Confusion Technique is documented by clinical hypnotists HERE: http://www.lermanet.com/scientology/confusion-technique2.htm and HERE: http://www.lermanet.com/exit/confusion-technique.htm

It is a covert hypnosis technique

I was informed by a graduate that it is taught at The School of the Americas, see http://www.soaw.org

Hmm.. 'Security Check' lists.. A prepared list of completely irrelevant questions..

'Gang Bang Sec Checks', with 4 or 5 'creative' scientologists, auditors?, screaming questions...
