ANZO HEALTH CARE?

Well after watching A Current Affair last night and hearing the Scientology spokes women say that the health expenses of members are taken care of buy the Church, I thought to myself ooooooo another lie why am I surprised at this.
Here is what I have seen.

My parents were ANZO staff and my father had some issues with skin cancer.
During his time at ANZO he had to have a number of cancers removed, it;s not a big surgical process, costs about $250.00
My parents had to pay for that out of their own money which was about $40 a week and most of the time went for weeks with no pay as the Church could not pay them.
Eventually I was called to help and send some money so my father could get these cancers removed.
My Mom, bless her little soul did not tell us about these cancers so as not to worry so I only heard about it when it was a scene of no money.

My son Shane who is staff at the moment at ANZO had some series teeth problems when he hit his teens and the AO would not do anything to help with this. So my sons mom he is staff at the AO aswell asked if I could transfer custody over to her so my son could get Australian residency so as to get free dental. I do not call that taking care of health issues.

My father in his last 3 years in the Sea Org at ANZO was diagnosed with alzheimers. This diagnosis was not by a specialist as the AO would not pay for this and with the skin cancers there was no money. So my mom did her own research on this and again she hid it from me only so as not to concern me but it came to a point were the condition was getting worse.
Many times it was said to the AO this condition exissted but nothing was done. No medical treatments, visits to specialists or what ever the AO washed their hands of this.
Eventually he was demoted to do garden work as he was no longer fit for other work in the AO. NO TREATMENT STILL.
Until my mom eventually had to leave the AO as my father was unfit for duty and was getting worse.
Now you would imagine this would be easy. No in my moms words. "I went through hell to get out"
This was leaving for medical reasons WTF.
I am actually shaking writing this thread and the tears are swelling up.
WTF

Lets end this with a bang!

My father develops alzheimers and gets demoted, that's it.:grouch:

SO "dental care", Julia?
I guess that's one way of describing a desperate pain-wracked man resorting to a pair of pliers in the AOSHANZO garage.

Interesting....after Lisa McPherson (and before, but not to such the huge degree as after her death) the church was fanatical about OTs getting doctor reports, getting medical handling, etc... obviously for fear of being sued. All the while, denying proper health care to their own??? This makes me ranging mad.
I guess they never saw it coming that all the ex sea org members would start to emerge and speak out in such numbers! You go ex-so!!!!
"What your fees buy." Right. Well we know it's not health care.

Oh, IA, I know...... Love to ya, man!

SO crew in Sydney do or can get medical treatment covered under medicare (it costs the individual nothing). However anything that *costs*, which is an awful lot of treatment, including dental, isn't covered by the SO, in the vast majority of cases, and so many miss out on getting it, 'cause they don't have the resources to get it.

I was staff, and never knew this till I was out, but *every* SO member knows it, because they or their friends *live* or lived it.

Well in the case of both my girls - Jordi had chronic ingrown, infected toe nails for 3 years of her 4 years in the SO. We would write reports etc and the result was nothing got done... shallow attempts made but that's was it.

When we got her we had the sit handled, she's still recovering due to the long term infection so her immune system is shot... and she suffers from constant virus and other infections. This coupled with Chicken Pox end of 2007 where we paid for her medical costs. She was in Melbourne on tour so I flew to Melbourne and hired a car and drove home with her as she couldn't take public transport. It cost us $1200 ... and the SO look after there own LOL. I won't tell ya the rest of the story but believe me we were not happy.

We paid for Jordi's dental work as well while she was in the SO. She also needed glasses to see long distance, her eyesight deteriorated during Objectives and although I wrote this up to the Snr C/S her legal guardian at the time nothing was done. We got glasses for her when she came home.

Fiona phoned me from Flag she had anaemia and had significant hair loss and basically rundown. She asked that I send over vitamins and give her advice on her to manage the condition this was in 2008.

SO caring for their HUMAN RESOURCE... in my experience is non existent.

My heart goes out to you and your family.

What kind of organisation treats its dedicated members like this... a suppressive organisation.

This is why we must keep pushing for the Senate inquiry. We have to make a stand for those who are not able to stand up for themselves.

I really hear you on this issue. It is another kind of insanity entirely to require assitance with a body problem and the group simply ignores you or worse - punishes you for it. It's a degrade which words can never described adequately. I am hopeful this issue can be brought to light and those at the top who are ultimately responsible for following the now compulsory if not nebulous labour law of "duty of care."
The group, if it demands the type of loyality such as the Cof$ does must pick up the tab and behave in a humane way - there is something very sinister with the Cof$ - I am sorry to hear of your involvement from this angle.
Rest assured "the reckoning" is on its way.

I know that some AO female staff had foot probs due to wearing high heels and being on their feet, usually in high heels, day in and out. I was happy to hear from one limping staff member that she was going to go for a podiatry appointment. She had been hanging out for that.

I remember one very elderly guy, with a very bad hearing problem (that yes, would have effected "production", and indeed caused some staff derision to be directed at him), wearing obviously free hearing aids when he really needed the superior paid for ones. In addition to that I remember him wearing some new glasses - free, shitty-looking ones, of course.

I remember too, seeing Peter Sparshot, busy on cycles, with a body that was obviously very ill and frail. He died soon after.

I also recall seeing a girl on the RPF being consoled by another RPFer as she cried early one morning - my impression at the time was that she was overwhelmed by the schedule. I also saw her some time later when she was out of the RPF and back in uniform occasionally sleeping on the grass in the park during her lunch break (and reluctantly getting up when it was time to go back). It was discovered (not sure when) that she had Leukemia. She was taken out of the S.O by her family I believe so that they could get the Leukemia addressed.

These are just a few examples that I recall off the cuff.

I remember one of my experiences working in a scientology front group where I was in agony with a coccyx injury and couldn't carry on with the current "cycle" and then being chastised and shown the breath on the mirror reference. And never did that executive express concern about whether or not I was getting appropriate medical care (which I was). They were simply infuriated that this was effecting production.

Thanks for the kind words.

My parents being South African and not permanent residents they probably could not get medicare.

How many foreign staff members are on staff at the AO?

Does anyone know if they are able to get medicare if they are not permanent residents? I doubt it.

I was not liable for medicare until my residency was approved and my parents were here under Religious worker visas that had to be constantly renewed.

In this case the Church in being the "employer or sponser" has to provide for their well being.

Is there a possible legal aspect to this?

I never thought of it this way.

So so sorry to hear about your folks, This is so distressing for any family, And I had tears rolling for you too I.A. This is just completely disgusting behaviour from a "religous group" and I hope your parents can live the rest of their lives with some freedom.

How they have the hide to try and say they are looking after the health & safety of the staff is just the biggest joke ever!:no::no:
