Flight is great -- fast and direct. Problem is it's expensive, especially if you can't book in advance.
Here's a thought:
in the future, when we know where someone is coming FROM and where they are going TO, maybe they could be driven by volunteers in a kind of "relay network" -- where someone in the network, close to origin, takes them for 100-200 miles, meets up with someone else in an agreed-upon city or small town, then that next person in the relay takes them for 100-200 miles (or whatever they can manage), where they meet up wtih another in the relay network, and so forth, until the escapee reaches their destination.
Luggage wouldn't be a problem with ground transportation. Bus or train could be used to fill in any "gaps" in the network.
I have car and like to travel, am close enough to some major cross-country (USA) routes, and would be part of such a relay network if there are others who would be willing to form it up. I also have plenty room in my house for an overnight (or longer) stay along the journey.
I won't post my location for public view, but would share details by PM. Kick it around. See what turns up.
glad this young person made it home -- and Big Sky country, what a lovely destination!
