Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke

Well, I think it is a little more complicated than that. In the early 80s, Stanley publicly departed the C of S and joined the squirrels. At one point he was being audited by Phil Spickler (Mimi Rogers' father), who had also left. While I am not sure about this, I seem to recall Stanley being declared sp. So it seems there would have to be some change in either Chick's or Stanley's standing in order for them to work together again.

I believe that is correct. Stanley Clarke did a concert at the Clearwater Jazz Festival in 1998 and the flag osabots were telling cofs members to not talk to him (or else). The usual coerced disconnection routine. The osabots were telling members that he had gotten some "squirrel" auditing, that is, auditing from a competitor. Essentially an admission of their racketeering tactics.

Wow, suzicue, that's interesting. I didn't know Stanley joined a squirrel group. That certainly wasn't promoted to the staff.

And I want to say that it's great to see you here on ESMB. I've always enjoyed your posts on OCMB.

While I usually disagree with both his observations and conclusions, I think Phil is a brilliant guy.

As squirels go, he's one of the most impressive.

I agree with Riptide that Chick "can do no wrong" in the eyes of the CofS. I'm sure he's at least "good roads, good weather" with Stanley.
He is an amazing artist. He played at the Patron's Ball in St. Petersburg, FL last March (my last 'event' it looks like) and was incredible.

The Return to Forever reunion plays this weekend in Los Angeles.

Yup as long as you're a celeb. go ahead and hang with someone "disenchanted with the church" as long a you're making $$$$.

However, for you loser "non-celebs" your E/O is waiting for you!!!!! Second door to the left.

Both Corea and Clarke did vinyl (remember that?) with LaMont Johnson in the early 1980s. Later on Lamont was not in good standing but he had been a mission ED and opinion leader for the cult over the years and did some "free" concerts for the G.O.

Not sure where this fits in. The albums may be available through an online/download service but I haven't found them yet.

This is the Enemy Names list (Flag ED 2830RB, 25 July 1992, Suppressive Persons and Groups) as issued by the Church of Scientology in 1992. Some SP's have voluntary agreed to include their e-mail address in this list so you can get hold of a "dreaded enemy of Scientology".
This is a historical document. The Church of Scientology regularly updates this list and individuals and groups can therefor have been removed and added before and after 1992.

back from the Return to Forever concert - great playing! stunning performance of all 4 guys, tunes I listened a lot as a kid. Amazing drum solo of Lenny White - Di Meola so good on acoustic and shredding on electric guitar, Clarke so sensitive and grooving - their last song performed 'Duel of the Jester and the Tyrant" still in my ears. I recommend it ;-)

I arranged a local radio interview for Chick when his tour came through my town. He was very personable and a great interview.

Yes I heard similar about Stanley going squirrel and being declared but all Celebrities get special red carpet treatment and can do whatever and remain on the "road to freedom" whereas for us little folk it is whole battery of manipulation and slamming in various forms to "get yer mind right" and alleviate this "failure to communicate" (quotes from Cool Hand Luke film)

I saw them too when they came through town. Great concert. A lot of talent for one stage.

I hope they write some new material and record together again. All those years of experience would surely produce some stunning new music.

Apparently, Return to Forever has gotten back together, including Stanley Clarke, and will be doing some concerts.

Does anyone know whether: a) Chick Corea is disregarding scientology policy;
or b) Stanley Clarke has gotten back into good standing; or c) Chick Corea has left the church; or d) some other explanation?

suzicue

I talked with him a few years ago. At that time he told me he does not go around CC anymore.
