Chris: "This is a talk I gave to the Tri-State Freethinkers Association in Union, Kentucky on May 6, 2015. I cover how I got involved in Scientology, what it is and how the organization operates as a destructive cult."

I like to listen to Chris.

Chris you have such a way to remain light and keep us smiling while giving a fine speech to the audience about cult issues. It's refreshing!

Thank you for all your warm and generous sharings & this beautifull work you edit and make available on internet for us to listen & share :wink2:

Thanks, Chris!

IMO, people should watch this presentation before watching "Going Clear".

Maybe we should have a Grade chart or training Level chart for anti-SCN. :)
Sorry... I couldn't resist.

I just remembered as I was watching....there was something Chris said that I immediately thought "no, that's not right" but now I can't remember what it was?? I'll have to search through to find it, but wondered if there was anyone else who noticed it? I'm pretty sure it was in the first half anyway.

Didn't notice :confused2:

I must confess I often loose the track of chris speech, only enjoying his smile!
It's like hypnosis

Maybe this is splitting hairs....but

I scanned through the first little bit again and somewhere after the 19:30 mark he is talking about how Hubbard wrote all the policies and no one else had input. While it's true Hubbard put his name on everything, I think there's witness statements all over the net (people who were actually there in the early days) who verify that there was quite a bit of input from others. If Hubbard liked it he adopted it, issued it over his name, and then put copyrights on it and viciously guarded it against others using it without paying him. So in essence stole and profited from others' work and then freaked if anyone did it to him. An example of this was the "study tech" as well as most of the NOTS materials.

I recall having read it too here, same your are telling!
There has been few threads about it, the most reliable testimonie - supported by others witnessed proving there has been either others contributors, tech stolen, policies writers

Perhaps chris intend was to emphasis LRH his policies like a dictator , not at all a democratic or group process! :confused2:

Looking forward to read his take!

Yes...there was a post from a guy that said he was in a small group that put together the "Pain and Sex HCOB" from notes....

PLUS: Back in the early days....(which for me are the 70's) there were plenty of "other" materials....BTBs....(Board Technical Bulletins...) and other such authored and approved and issued materials...in all Course and study materials....

I normally wouldn't listen to a tl;dw (too long, didn't watch) 1.5 hour video but I thought I would multi task while listening.
I think he did a fine presentation relaying an otherwise difficult subject to a non-scio audience. He has a gift as an articulate speaker and is a likable guy.

That's just my little two cents. Yay for Chris Shelton!

He did a good job of explaining exactly how a young person might get sucked into such a Cult, about love-bombing and how "one true thing", your "wins", and the false idealism of thinking you are serving a good cause will stick you mentally to the group for a long time. That in and of itself is a great public service! Also did a great job about explaining some of the basic beliefs, like reincarnation, and the "rules" like policing yourself to not read the news or look on the Internet about Scientology.

He spent a little too much time covering the whole Ideal Org scam, etc. He really has material for a two to two and a half hour talk here! :happydance: I really would like to hear him cover the abuses, OSA, Fair Game, etc. and crimes against Critics and Exes. There is also the abuses and crimes against COS members...denying medical treatment to Sea Org, the appalling Cadet Org abuses, etc.

It would also have been great for him to talk a bit more about recovery, 'cause that is what can be really helpful to people who have friends or family members who have left or are leaving a high control group or Cult like Scientology.

Overall, I think he is polishing his speaking ability and he could have gone on for another hour and still kept his audience's interest! He's a very personable and positive speaker, easy to listen to, especially for such a horrible subject! Very well done, Chris!

The "Tehc" was cobbled together from all sorts of sources by Hubbard - He was egalitarian in that He stole from everyone without prejudice.

But the Policies are a different matter - I've never heard nor seen anyone else put their hand up to say they wrote a PL. And they are what the organisations ran on, not the "Tehc."

Pretty sure Anthony Phillips authored a PL, but a quick google didn't find it.

One example well known is that Ken Urquhart was asked by LRH to find a way
to rehabilitate those failing on post. These were probably SO issues rather than
green on white. Ken is very humane and one should note that LRH created the
RPF's RPF when told by someone that they found the RPF more relaxing than post duties
because he had enough sleep etc.

I knew a Sea Org member who was at Saint Hill in the early days and she claimed to have written many of the Policy Letters that came out at that time.

They were green on white HCOPLs that were signed "L. Ron Hubbard" but he probably didn't know anything about them.

I won't mention her name but she's still at Saint Hill now as a public OT VIII.

All of her HCOPLs were in the original green OEC volumes and when the new volumes came out she said she was very relieved to find they had ditched her Policy Letters because she had written them for the staff of Saint Hill and never expected them to be distributed worldwide under Ron's name.

This is strictly rumor and hearsay, but....

Many years ago, someone I knew who had drifted away from scientology in all its forms told me that the "Completed Staff Work" (CSW) policy came straight out of a military manual they had happened upon without really looking for it. That was a piece of the experience that had turned them off LRH and the subject.

I suspect that, given his creation of the Salvation Navy and obsession with such things, that much of the policies that direct how the organizations are run comes from military.

Another reason I suspect this is because the everyday workings of the military is known for its inefficiency, clumsy beaurocracy, and stupidity... and if ever there was an even greater example of inefficiency and stupidity, it would be "scientology policies" on how to run an organization / business.

After leaving the BC.....I was packing up some of my sister's books one day...and in a very old Yoga Book....came across something written that was word for word....something I'd read on the BC..

I will have to dig that book up....and try to figure out what it was and post here...
