I read on another board that an old friend of mine, Chuck Lemmer, died of
cancer back in 2005 at the Gold Land base in California. I knew Chuck and
his wife Kathy back in the 70's before they headed to California (from Connecticut) to do Scientology.
I had done some courses and auditing
at the local mission back at that time, did'nt really want to continue
(couldn't afford it, prices were going skyhigh and going on staff did'nt
appeal to me!) so when Chuck and Kathy left, I sort of lost contact with them except for a couple letters
(urging me to conitinue with Scientology, of course) and one visit during the eighties when Kathy came back to visit her parents..
I shared a house with Chuck and a couple other Scientologists back then.
Chuck was an aeronautical engineer at a major jet engine manufacturing
company...Kathy also worked there as a technical writer. I considered
them to be good friends. In the following years, I married, raised a family,
continued my career, and have since retired. I had always hoped to
hear from Chuck again...on a friend to friend "non Scientology" basis.
Never did...and now its too late. So sad.
Does anyone know of the details of Chucks death? What form of cancer?
Did he get treatment? I understand Kathy rose high in the ranks of the
organization, holding a post of "INCOMM" director, or some such. Is she
still "in"?
Also, another mutual friend from those days...a fellow named Hugh
Franklin. Hugh audited me at the mission. We were also TR partners on
the old communications course. He went to California, (late 70's)
worked as a CS. He had a girlfriend named Lisa Walton who also went
to LA. I read on the web that Hugh committed suicide after
being shot by a mugger and paralyzed. Did anyone know Hugh?
Any more details of the shooting incident? A real nice guy, Hugh.
