Church of Scientology ‘flattered’ by approaches from Australian PR and marketing firms

The Church of Scientology has said it has received a number of solicitations from marketing and PR firms in Australia seeking their business.

Yesterday, the Church of Scientology revealed plans to improve its image and tackle what it called “misconceptions” about its brand in Australia, which it says has prompted the advances from agencies.

The church has a PR agency in Australia, but does not use an agency for any other channel.

Sei Broadhurst from the Church of Scientology’s public affairs team said the church was “flattered” by the interest, but there would be no need for a creative or media agency in Australia, as their advertising push would be led out of the US.

“We were flattered to receive many offers from among the most prominent
marketing companies in Australia,” she said.

The CofS is flattered that the Marketing World has discovered how much money they're willing to burn? I can see the Agency Brainstorming meetings now, "Item 1: We need to get ourselves a piece of that CofS money before they go finally down!"

My friend was just saying that - If they spent all that money for an ad during the Super Bowl and it backfired, we should call them!

Its funny to see how the "church" spins the solicitations. Hint to church: You are looked at as crazy, but with a bunch of cash from the slave labor and donations.

This is just pitiful.

After watching The Gruen Transfer, I think that ad agencies would see
the cult of scientology as the ultimate test. If we can sell scientology, we can sell anything. That would be the boast. They would have amazing stats fed back to them to tell them how successful the campaign had been.

Actually ... I know (literally, know) that many of vendors of various services avoid like the plague acquiring the Church of Scientology as a client. The cult's name would have the panache of "South Africa in the time of apartheid" on lists of "Who Are Our Clients."

For example, the cult is already on a black list of those entities some firms will not represent for social responsibility reasons -- along with tobacco companies, the Ku Klux Klan and Westboro Baptist Church, among others.

Exactly. Ad agencies aren't exactly the most ethical people on the planet.

How is this flattery at all?

From: http://tonyortega.org/2013/02/07/je...ientology-news-in-thursday-roundup/#more-3644

"....On January 30, a story appeared at Horizont, a German marketing publication, which said that Scientology had mailed proposals for a major new advertising campaign to 70 of the country’s agencies.

This morning, however, Horizont is reporting that Germany’s advertising trade group, the GWA, has announced through its president, Lothar Leonhard, that it is taking a stand against doing business with Scientology.

Lothar Leonhard: Don’t take Scientology’s money
“Cooperation with such organizations is not consistent with the understanding of the association,” Leonhard wrote in a letter to all agencies that are part of the GWA. Leonhard told Horizont that he didn’t believe any GWA agency, at least, would accept work from the church....."

They don't have any money in Australia so it would HAVE to come from the US unless they work the field over for it. Also trying to run an advertising campaign without Miscavige interference would be like trying to run a theatre of war under Hitler or, even worse, make a film under Hubbard.

Also, I hope anyone tricked into becoming involved with Scientology through the auspices of one of these advertising firms would sue the shit out of them as well. Advertisers aren't the only ones who can chase clambulances.
