The "Shroud of Scientology" exists "as a document of Tom Cruise's faith in Scientology — a photo negative of the radiance of his soul," said the artist.

The Church of Scientology is distancing itself from an art exhibit purporting to be Scientology-related that features an image of a nude, well-endowed Tom Cruise.

"The Church has nothing to do with this publicity stunt, and any claim to the contrary is false," church spokesperson Karin Pouw tells The Hollywood Reporter.

The exhibit, scheduled to open on Aug. 8th at the Corey Allen Contemporary Art gallery in St. Petersburg, FL, was announced Wednesday via press release.

In celebration of Tom Cruise's 25th anniversary as a Scientologist, the release says, a "nude shroud of the actor" will be unveiled in a "Pop-Up Church of Scientology" at the gallery, which is located near the church's headquarters in Clearwater Florida. The image was created by artist Daniel Edwards.

Neither Corey Allen, founder of the gallery, nor Edwards is a Scientologist. Allen tells THR that they had "sought sanction for the exhibit from the church but had not received a response."

Page Six: Scientology wants no part of bizarre, naked Tom Cruise art

An upcoming Tom Cruise art installation is as mysterious as it is bizarre.

It was announced Wednesday that a giant Cruise shroud and commemorative medals will be unveiled in tribute to the actor’s 25-year involvement with the Church of Scientology — but the controversial religion claims to have no part in the spectacle.

The 14-foot-by-3-foot shroud – which depicts a very well-endowed nude likeness of the 53-year-old — and medals featuring his profile were created by artist Daniel Edwards and will be displayed next month at a “pop-up Church of Scientology” near the organization’s Clearwater, Fla., headquarters, the artist says.

But a spokesperson for the church denied any involvement in the project, telling Page Six that it’s a “publicity stunt and any claim to the contrary is false.”

“I think [The Church of Scientology] are masters at publicity,” Edwards responded. “It’s an acknowledgement to [Cruise’s] 25-year commitment to Scientology. He hasn’t been able to stay committed to three different marriages so for him to be committed to something so deeply it must be pretty important.”

Edwards, an American sculptor who denied any ties to the Church of Scientology, is known for controversial celebrity pieces. Past works include a nude statue of Britney Spears in labor and a topless bust of Hillary Clinton.

The artist explained the pieces were not his brainchild but is keeping mum on exactly who commissioned the Cruise works.

“I’m just a hired hand,” explained Edwards. “I was requested to make this piece, but I’m kind of waiting for the other parties to come forward, although I’m not sure that’s ever really going to happen. I always assumed there was a connection [between the church and those who commissioned the piece].”

I think in reality they applaud the subject of nude Tom Cruise and weird out ethics things start to happen by 'senior' church officials when the subject is brought up.

I like the cut of his jib.

Loving this story.

And though I suspected hijjnx when I read it, it really could have been true - but only if Miscavige's shroud had a bigger willy

:roflmao:

Oh, I get what this guy is doing now.
Good for him, digging in at the ground level.
Damned difficult for an artist to get attention these days.
Hes managed it, big time.

Everytime I read this line as I was digging around my brain would interpret it as Edvard Munch, and I'd read even harder, lol.

"The Showroom is The Shroud of Scientology, also by Edwards. Much mystery surrounds the upcoming exhibit. We will just have to wait until Saturday, August 8th to discover what it has to offer.

Meanwhile, Tom Cruise keeps ignoring the screams coming from the Scientology prisons.

I just hope there is just one Miscavige buttplug in his collection.
Hell I'd even commission it to him.

.
.

I love it. I also love that they are going to have a "pop-up" scientology exhibition.

I love this too:
