City of Clearwater Attempting to Put Ethics in on Church of Scientology at Flag

The CoS is continuing to ignore the local ordinances in Clearwater during their preparation for upcoming events. The SP Times just published a new report several hours ago:

Scientology accused of more Clearwater code violations

Charlie Frago, Times Staff Writer Thursday, November 7, 2013 5:54pm

CLEARWATER — The Church of Scientology has run afoul of city ordinances again, prompting city officials to say that if the church doesn't begin complying with city laws, it won't get permits for a major event later this month and an annual New Year's celebration.

The church has installed a white privacy fence on the western and southern boundaries of the property where it erected a massive tent for upcoming events, effectively blocking the view of the tent property from beachbound traffic passing by on Court Street. The church did not obtain a required permit before putting up the fence.
...

In addition, flood lights the church has placed on the big tent are disturbing residents of a nearby high-rise tower for seniors, potentially violating city light intrusion rules.
...

Horne said an international gathering of Scientologists planned for the weekend after Thanksgiving as well as an anticipated New Year's Eve event won't be issued special event permits if the church doesn't change its behavior.
Church officials Peter Mansell and Sarah Heller met with Horne Wednesday. At that meeting, Mansell and Heller said they didn't like how the church was being portrayed, according to Horne.

"They don't like they're being characterized as completely disregarding or not caring about the city's rules and regulations," Horne said. "But I emphasized to Peter, I said, 'Peter, the reality is we are all evaluated by what we do, not what we say we do. All these are actions that indicate to people that you're not willing to follow our rules.'"
...

Moving forward, Horne said, the church's actions will determine if they receive city approvals.

The first test will be if the church complies with city conditions to get a special event permit for the Flag Building dedication Nov. 17. The city plans to deliver those conditions to the church Friday.

So! The Scientologists question how they are characterized.

L. Ron Hubbard said the perfect answer to a question is the question itself. Perfect duplication, right? I will try to be as polite as I possibly can in revealing my humble opinion about that. Fuck that stupid shit! LOL.

The actual perfect answer to Scientology's "question" is exactly what the Clearwater city managers told them:

"But I emphasized to Peter, I said, 'Peter, the reality is we are all evaluated by what we do, not what we say we do.'"

That little exchange is a microcosm at the core of Scientology's hideously bad public relations image.

Scientologists call it "postulating" and "making things go right".

Wogs call it hypocrisy.

I guess the new 'small tent' is for "instant RPF" allocation.

What's pissing me off most now is that the city is not doing much of anything here to enforce anything: obvious indication of their (some) being in bed with the freaks.

Hopefully some 'new-old stock' from the Hindenburg was used in constructing this monstrosity - and given the propensity towards members smoking like volcanoes...

The City is not in bed with the Church.

But the City deals carefully with the Church.

I can tell you that I know that the City's legal department despises the Church a great deal.

Right now though, the City's biggest problem is dealing with budget problems.

It trumps everything else.

Some one needs to explain to the cult that you just can't say "I'm not a ignorant, bullying asshole of epic proportions" you actually have to not act like one for people to believe it.

The cult hates how reality and facts screw up their empty public relation statements.

I think the basic problem is that they think if they do things as Hubbard tells them to do things than the PR will be great.

I actually think they are surprised when they get bad PR.

I bet they would have way LESS budget problems if they dealt with the cult problem. That place is strangling the life out of their economy. Who else is going to want to set up shop there now?

Yet, city officials refuse to accept the fact that David Miscavige owns Clearwater (or thinks he does).

Not at all.

The city officials have a city to run.

And Scientology is a very insignificant part of that.

They are just sometimes a pain in the ass.

Pinellas County along with the City of Clearwater has cut the homeless population in half in just the last year.

They have cut the number of homeless veterans by two thirds.

They have made substantial road improvements and the police force is the best I have seen in all of America.

All and this on a significantly reduced budget.

This is what they were elected to do; not worry about Scientology.

Just because we are obsessed with the cult doesn't mean the whole world is or should be.

Maybe DM is doing this on purpose. If he gets shut down by the city he has another SP to focus everyone's attention on and he still does not have to open the building and can't be blamed for it.

I can appreciate what yer saying here but really: is 'Clearwater' an actual City unto itself, or something chiseled away at by many years of the Scn Hierarchy that have sorta dictated things there.

I say in somewhat ignorance, cause I've not been there in a long while - and am happy to hear that the legal counsel is not very happy with Scn...but I'll bet that they would not anyone 'slip by' on a parking ticket, as opposed to what they let slip by with Scn...I mean: if they're revenue hungry: can't they see an opportunity here?? and just by adhering to the law??

I don't know - just seems one entity has another by the balls i whatever devious way. Then again: why isn't there, that I'm aware of, some website for 'citizens against Scn in Clearwater', if things are not well there! Anywhere else it would be a given once the general populace has been even remotely informed - just the whole "nimby' thing...

I'm just stupid I suppose - but do wish the good folks of Clearwater the very best in eradicating the parasite that's bigger than the host.

Must of the people I know dislike the Church of Scientology.

And I can honestly say that I have never heard anybody say anything nice about the Church.

They believe it to be a UFO cult.

But most people do not have any day-to-day contact with the Church.

Downtown Clearwater is actually away from the bulk of the population and is actually in a relatively remote place from the center of population.

Except for going to the beach most people do not even pass by downtown.

And now that there is a new bridge they don't actually pass a Scientology building (except now for the tent)

However, once the new aquarium gets built I believe there will be some confrontations.

The aquarium at its present location has turned out to be the biggest tourist attraction in this part of Florida (besides Clearwater Beach).

And when the new one gets built right next to Flag and the Oak Tree building (or whatever it is called) I think there will be confrontations which can't be ignored.

Personally, I still believe that the Church is waiting for the referendum on gambling to pass and then it will sell most of its building to a casino organization.

Downtown is supposed to be where the action is in a city, though - where people actually go.

Downtown was turning into a ghost town even before the Church moved here.

In the early 1970s the city annex a lot of land.

Malls were built and the main roads were improved.

The stores, except for a few little mom and pop shops moved out.

Even along the main street--Gulf to Bay--is like a ghost town.

That's why the Church could buy up so much stuff.

The city's budget took a hit from the drop in property rates.

Up to that time real estate taxes were its biggest source of income.

Now excise taxes on cable and utilities are.

But development continues northeast of the city.

Downtown Clearwater is not like the downtown in bigger cities.

The Church pays property taxes on its property where people reside, like the hotels and staff housing, but not where they perform services like the Coachman building.

The population in Clearwater is over 100,000 and in all of Pinellas County almost 1,000,000.

Scientology is insignificant here.

It's just amazing that so few can dictate to so many!

It's just amazing that so few can dictate to so many!

They don't dictate to anybody.

Years ago when I infiltrated a group for OSA that was opposed to the Church I was shocked to here them talk.

They were convinced that Scientologists had taken over the Pentagon and were running it.

I heard stories about how most congressmen were on the Church's payroll.

It was unbelieveable.

The Church of Scientology can only make noise and harass people with fair game and through the courts.

Other than that it is insignificant.

Don't make it into a powerful enemy.

It is just a cult.

The cult, per scripture, "finds or manufactures"* facts to "fill in the vacuum".

As far as the cult is concerned, there is never NOT a vacuum. LOL.

* In reviewing all sectors of industry, one can locate Scientology in the "manufacturing" sector:
