2:44?!?! Seriously?? If you're going to post something like this, could you at least give some sort of summary or tell us WHY you think we should spend almost 3 hours on it?

But it's the Dalai Lama!

And look at the blurb:

Twenty of the world's foremost scientists and philosophers with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and other senior Tibetan scholars will address topics over the course of the week that include the historical sweep of science and the revolutions in our understanding of our physical universe and the nature of the mind.

How can that not be appealing?

-----

I dutifully watched the first two minutes, which showed the audience shuffling around and the DL putting on his headset, all to the accompaniment of some deep-voiced dirge-like chanting. I couldn't tell if the chanting was original audio or edited in over usual room background chatter. My immediate impression was this was a video for fanboys who would willingly sit through literally hours of fluff (accompanying the important stuff) that no-one bothered to edit out because, well, BECAUSE DALAI LAMA.

I wasn't interested enough to listen to more than ten seconds from 20 minutes later to see if they would still be chanting (no) and if he spoke in English (no).

Watching this for almost three hours will keep you from reading three hours of L Ron Hubbard and David Miscavige entheta. It will basically park you and take you out of the loop of ESMB posters.

I see some rather good efforts at being kind in the comments uttered by some above . . . .

I followed the DOF's advice above and listened/watched for the indicated two minutes . . . well I dunno if I managed 2 min . . . the eee and owww and oiy-ing had me dozing . . . umm, is dozing off the new enlightenment?

Or maybe the being able to stay awake for the 2+ hours of that parade is the test . . .

The whole congress is actually many many more hours and days.

Summary:

You can train the brain/mind to better yourself. L Ron Hubbard had that tid bit correct back in the day. Just one kernel of thruth per rotten cob.

I liked the 2 minutes of it that I watched.

Then I considered and contrasted the Dalai Lama's behavior and demeanor with that of "The Pope of Scientology."

Can you imagine the Dalai Lama calling a Monk a "counter-intentioned cock sucker?"

choking him?

Can you imagine him bending a woman's finger almost to the breaking point?

I have respect and reverence for religion.

Scientology is contemptible.

No need to watch the 3 hour video. It's all summed up here:

Just listened to the Norman Doidge Neuroplasticity video. Only about 8 minutes, he had something important to say, he said it beautifully and succinctly, it didn't take 3 hours. Thank you for that one!:)
