I wouldn't be surprised if they are just friends or relatives of someone who is on lines.

The Church probably paid them to be there thinking it would intimidate the protestors.

A professional PI wouldn't do something that can come back to haunt him if there are cameras on him.

Just a guess.

If they are hired security, do they have to identify themselves to the police?

And I think that means in DC that he is licensed to carry it. so the DC police must have seen his credentials.

I would feel better if gun toting guy and the other "security" were solely making an appearance at this cookout, but as we've seen, they've been around other times when there is no police presence, and tall guy's buddy seems intent on threatening Sparrow. Bad mojo. Do not like.

Sidenote on all that police presence -- several officers, several cars, van, etc.:

Police salaries and equipment are paid for by taxpayers -- usually from property taxes.

Scientology doesn't pay any taxes on its fancy new building.

Therefore, the people these police offers are supposedly protecting, are not paying them for their efforts; whereas, anonymous protestors ARE paying taxes, directly on property they own or indirectly on property they rent.

Someone might want to point that out to the police the next time so many show up.

(Good they were there, though -- probably protected the protestors from the scientologists, who seemed to be on the verge of assaulting them several times.)

You may be right -- perhaps they were paid by the cult for that particular event. I don't know how that works. I assumed that police are always "on call" as "public servants" -- seems like paying them "extra" for your own private event borders on bribery and corruption? But I don't know.

No....they don't normally get the Police like that......the hired thug harem eunuch guards the scilons paid, but the police presence was not "hired" by them. That said, there were WAY more police at this raid than any in the past....and that was a good thing IMO, given how the cult is escalating its "defense" with death threats against protesters........
