I think both of you have made great observations. It is way cheaper to live in Mexico, AFAIK. I'm sure there are expensive places there, but, still, I bet overall/in general, way cheaper than in the US.

But then again, there could be other reasons for not wanting to be in the US, like a deal with DM.

And in celebration of that she rents places in such wonderful havens as Martinique and Baja? Choices behind speaking French (apparently that was a major hurdle for them - who would have guessed? Oh wait - me) or staying out of a drug war? Much has been made of the idea that where they are now is a three hour drive from LA and how that would make it easier to meet Marty - whoever that was seems to forget that Marty lives in Texas...

So if the idea was to be close to the USA why the side trip to Martinique? Was that just a dumb move by Dumb and Dumberer? If it is to be closer to Marty but outside the US why not the Mexico Texas border?

If she has all this money why not pick somewhere that is a whole lot friendlier to expats - Panama for example? Costa Rica? Honduras? There are many countries around the Caribbean that offer great places and large expat communities.

So either Debbie and Hubby are dumbasses - not unlikely I must admit - or they are on a budget of some kind because the choices they have made up to now don't come across as the "rich persons guide on picking great places to hang out".

I never said they had a boatload of cash. But she obviously has enough to spend 2-3k a month on that rental villa as that is what those units rent for. I would assume the settlement has been safely put into an annuity that pays them so much per month, etc.
As far as Debbie and Wayne's location choices, I have no clue what they are up to. I know if I had say, 5-7K per month to live on, I would certainly make different choices than they are.
But then, Debbie and Wayne's motives are probably a lot different than mine would be. (I would prefer shooting dove in Argentina, or having a small farm in central Equador)

I don't trust Debbie. But it could be that she and Wayne are just reeling from this whole thing and making weird decisions without any real foresight. But more likely I think they are spending plenty of time scheming. I doubt it has anything to do with Marty. He doesn't want anyone trying to take his paper crown away from him.

Well, I can understand that. I don't like her either (and I don't know her personally).
But I do find her of particular interest because I think she is still dangerous. I am just not sure to who yet. I agree with your tick assessment. She could have refused to settle. She still would have probably walked away with a nice judgement and the freedom to speak. And then maybe she could have worked to atone for a tiny piece of her own multiple crimes.
It did not take her long to clam up when she saw the benefit for herself. And the fact that they put out this strange travel blog is weird too.
