Yep, we all know that people get into psychology and psychiatry because they have a life long dream to hurt, drug, control and abuse other people and get paid for it.:whipped::duh:

Of course, CCHR and Mercola are where everyone finds all of the "reliable" information, and any one who tells you different is a shill for the drug companies and the psychs.:omg:

Since sarcasm does not come off well in writing:

I AM BEING SARCASTIC!!:whatever:

I wonder how much projection was involved in Hubbard's hate for psychs. It could not have all been because his unsupported, pretend scientific study of the mind was thoroughly trashed. He thought his insight into the human mind would make him the hero of the psych world not a laughing stock.

Here is list of reviews and at the source for the list (http://www.lermanet.com/scientific.htm) there are links as well:

California Institute of Technology, a review of Dianetics"Counting noses of adherents is not evidence"
American Scientist October 1950 Hubbard: like a "child stamping his foot"
Dr Oscar Sachs from Mt Sinai Hospital in NY "old psychoanalytical concepts
Milton Sapirstein: Hubbard - "the leader of the inner manipulative clique"
JAMA: nonsensical tomfoolery
AmJournal of Psychiatry: Hubbard's own paranoid delusions
Fails Clinical Test of Dianetics
Sources Hubbard copied his ideas from
Martin Gardner on Dianetics from "Fads and Fallacies" Top 20 Pages

Although real science of the mind has progressed quite a bit since the 1950s, Hubbard's ideas (his few original ones, not the ones he stole from others) are stagnant and smell worse each year due to rot.

Millions of people have been helped because of medication.

CCHR cannot handle valid criticism and correction. Why else would it have deleted this comment by Dr. Steve Wiseman previously posted on CCHR StL's blog and reposted on the Tipping Point forum here.

Fortunately his reply cannot be erased completely. Thanks to Tippingpoint, it is preserved.

Tipping point is a place where one can discuss and document Scientology and the scientology front groups, CCHR included. Here is a link to all the threads containing CCHR articles and comments.

What I find frustrating about CCHR and the anti-psych cultists is that they are very good at telling us all what they are against, but seldom say what they are for. They offer no alternatives to that which they rail against and are left spluttering and confused when required to answer the question: if not drugs, then what?

Now, I'm no fan of drug manufacturers. Like all corporates their single motive is to generate return on investment to shareholders. This unethical basis of operation leads to all sorts of crimes and excesses. Bankers, I would say, are more criminally minded, for example, but of the same ilk. Having said that, it has to be pointed out that psychiatric drugs do provide a significant benefit to society. Hundreds of thousands of individuals who might otherwise never work or even live in the community now have the ability to care for themselves and contribute positively to society. Millions of others who might otherwise live under the suppressive and debilitating effects of mental illness are able to sustain healthy and active lifestyles. The horrors of last century's psychiatric institutions are largely gone now from those countries wealthy enough to afford the drugs. The whole mental health arena has become transformed from a place of containment to an environment of healing. Thanks to the drugs.

What is CCHR's alternative to that?

Its also frustrating to see CCHR's attitude to society and mental patients generally. Its promotional work is based on deception, generating unfounded fear and the reckless offering of unqualified medical advice to people already under prescribed treatment regimes. Half-truths are mixed with flat-out lies, bizarre one-off episodes are presented as standard operating procedure, and mental patients, already suffering discrimination, are further marginalised. Human rights are the least of this organisation's concerns. Add to that this OP's sly reference to possible financial rewards and the cynical nature of its machinations are revealed in its attempt to appeal to the venal. Just how stupid do these people think we wogs really are?

They offer Narconon and Scn. But they can only offer Narconon publicly, because just the association with Scn turns people away from them and the public at large does not fully equate Narconon with Scn. Then if they can get you into Narconon, they make money off of you and have a chance to recruit you to Scn. The relationships are becoming more transparent with the effort of many and the use of the internet.

Hi Mary,
I frequent the Tipping Point because I truly despise the fraud that is narconon and the hazardous purif program that can harm, and do not help people, and funnel cash and recruits into scn.

The problem, IMO, is not the pharmaceuticals, but the desire to make money from their production and sale, which leads to unethical promotion efforts, and the corruption of medical doctors. There are many people who benefit from the pharmaceuticals, and there are many who are damaged by inappropriate diagnosis/medication regimens. The first are not a problem, and the second are actually a symptom. The problem is greed, as usual, and lack of transparency concerning diagnosis and relationships between prescribing doctors and manufacturers.

Maybe ok for a mild case of whatever ails you but CCHR is out of its league on a grand scale.

If scientology is for the "able" (as only they see and define "able") then, they should stick to what they (think they) know.

(Able is also defined as "has money," as you know.)

CCHR staff think they are solving the world by imposing themselves on "the comm lines of the world." They are, from my experience, the most narrow minded, tunnel visioned and uneducated group IN the field of mental health.
Their goal is not holistic wellness for a person. Their goal is a reportable stat.

I agree. Artificial creation of markets for the sake of revenue, just like Scientology telling people they're totally messed up and only the 'church' can salvage them. Very unethical.

CCHR has uncovered the scandal of "Deep Sleep Therapy" in Australia, that cost 24 lives, but it's rather telling that this was more like a side effect of their attempt to find dirt on one of the members who conducted the Anderson Report.

As a Scientology front group the CCHR cannot be unbiased, so this group should be seen for what it really is: A bunch of fanaticized zealots fighting against the legitimate 'competition'. Nobody can take them seriously, even Al-Quida hates them, as they try to steal their "sucess" of 9/11 by blaming this on psychiatry.

CCHR is not even good for a laugh.
Fortunately, most cities have woken up to CCHR being a front for Narconon and it's dangerous practises.
Remember the fraud conviction in France last year?
http://www.forum.exscn.net/showthread.php?t=14350

The wikipedia entry makes for some interesting reading...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narconon

California school officials investigating Narconon's claims. The study found that Narconon's program did not reflect medically and scientifically based practices and that it offered students misleading information about drug use and abuse.

Does CCHR ever give any figures for cases of misuse of psycotropic drug there are?

to mary,

per my civil rights attorney, i couldn't take them to court because my statue of limitations ran out, this happened in 1998, so i was going to take them to court for discriminating against me now, in present time, my attorney was going to take the case but he needed funding and sent me over to the ACLU but they couldn't take the case on because they only have 7 attorneys for class action lawsuits.

Scientology vs. Psychiatry - What Psychiatrists Say

If 1% of what scientology alleges against psychiatry was true, there would be alot more vitriol and accusations flying in the ^^above works as well as on the leading cult expert academic sites:

dont believe the cult's CCHR propaganda, its batshit insane stupidty. and altho there are some bad eggs amongst psychs as there is with any group of humans, CCHR is > 9000 miles out in left field and totally unqualified to even make a reasonable argument.

Become informed, find out for yourself and dont assume what works for a cult member actually works or makes sense in for anybody else in the REAL world not under the influence of the koolaid.

Sorry but I also been taking ADs (anti depressant) and it has saved my life as well.
At least they tell you what the side effects might be. Notice the 'might be'. Do not mean you will have them but at least you know what can be expected. Unlike Scientology who is anything but upfront.

You know those that take meds and are doing well rarely come online to tell that it helps them Its those that have bad experiences that do.
First, not all meds will work for you. One thing you said ADs cause cancer? WTF? NO it doesnt. Cause coma? well, if you overdose on it but so does many other meds that are not psych meds. Just use common sense.

You need to find balance here. Its not all black and white. Which is exactly how Scientology view pretty much everything. Psyhiatry in particular since they are the BIG SPs :eyeroll:
