Sorry to pick nits with your otherwise excellent post, but that is most definitely an RAF bomber, not a fighter.
If my once-greater-than-present WWII geekery has not completely deserted me, it's an Avro Lancaster. The Lancaster is most easily distinguished from its rival the Halifax Mk. III by the twin oval rather than rectangular rear stabilizers, and the rounded snub nose rather than the more conical bombardier's compartment on the Halifax Mk. III. The Halifax Mk. II had a similar nose to the Lancaster, but lacked a top dorsal bubble turret mid-fuselage and sported funky-shaped rear stabilizers.
