Sorry to pick nits with your otherwise excellent post, but that is most definitely an RAF bomber, not a fighter.

If my once-greater-than-present WWII geekery has not completely deserted me, it's an Avro Lancaster. The Lancaster is most easily distinguished from its rival the Halifax Mk. III by the twin oval rather than rectangular rear stabilizers, and the rounded snub nose rather than the more conical bombardier's compartment on the Halifax Mk. III. The Halifax Mk. II had a similar nose to the Lancaster, but lacked a top dorsal bubble turret mid-fuselage and sported funky-shaped rear stabilizers.

I took a look today, too, which is something I never do. And I looked at Mr. Rinder's blog too. Then I realized -- no one talks about "wins" from their cult experience, except people at Marty's cult-friendly blog. The Underground Bunker? Ha! I don't think anyone has ever talked about it there either, pro or con, in any serious way, or in debate. The obvious is so well established, that there's nothing to add to it. A looooong time ago! I guess Marty's people want to talk about it among themselves, in the fishbowl, where people still use cult words and express the joy of indoctrination, on occasion. And as if anyone cares about some experience that they liked in the cult. The war it seems, is taking place there, in the minds of Marty and some of his posters.

I have no idea if Marty is making those ludicrous posts on his website--or even moderating it any more.

At this point the odds of guessing what Marty Rathbun is doing or thinking is about the same as playing your last dollar bill in a casino slot machine and then waiting expectantly for the $1M jackpot to start pouring out.

"wins" are important in the scientology scene in the sense they are steps to achieve the ultimate of being able to leave the body at will. The important thing is to achieve the EP's of each grade level up to clear, then the EP's up on up the OT levels which at present is OT8 which is "whole track recall".

People there do talk about "wins" they had, but none talk about ability gained as per Hubbards Chart of the Bridge to Total Freedom. And namely OT8 which is whole track recall.

Confession, the moment I found a semi-suitable photo of a warplane unloading chaff and posted it, I knew I was just guessing if it was a "fighter plane". There was appx. 7 nanoseconds where I debated diving back in to look up what kind of plane it was (since the photo had no description); then, in the 8th nanosecond I thought to myself what I always think in such moments: "They'll never see it". LOL

Also, some of the books Marty likes to name drop so much are more than a bit eye-rolling. He's like the all too eager college freshman trying to impress the grad student crowd at the coffee shop.

He loves mentioning 'physics" but has proved his knowledge of it (and other hard sciences he likes to name drop to give the illusion of depth and learning to his posts) is as muddled and shallow as a new pothole in a parking lot. But then again Marty has always seemed desperate to be seen as a sort of deep intellectual and looked to ride the coat tails of established scientists and authors to give credence to his own brand of bullshit. He also seems to have greatly confused reading with comprehension.

It's a shame he wasted three decades on Hubbard's bullshit rather than getting a proper education. Unfortunately, at this stage in the game, I don't think Marty reads to educate himself but merely as a form of confirmation bias for his theories.

He also loves to cherry pick real science. If he can use to forward whatever he's rabbiting on about it's great, but if it disagrees with his ramblings or is used to disprove his latest line then he can tell you how misguided and stupid these "scientists" are.

I don't know if he was this way before he joined the SO, but it is creepy how much Marty's personality mimics Hubbard's. He's insufferable and thinks his windbagging is truly profound knowledge. If you disagree, then you are just a hater or not smart enough to get the great Marty. His strident assurance of being right about everything is the one true sign of a dullard, his lack of doubt the red flag of a fanatic.

Yes, you are absolutely correct, it's a Lancaster bomber alright! One of them flies over my flat at about 250 feet every year as part of an air show here on the south coast, accompanied by a Spitfire and a Hurricane. They were of course the bombers that took part in the famous 'Dam Busters' raid on Germany during WW II. What I always find astonishing is that any of these 'planes survived that raid as, lumbering along at 200 MPH, these huge aircraft, flying as low and as slowly as they did during the attack, would appear to be impossible to miss using anti-aircraft weapons. That is always my thought as I watch it fly past, it seems so vulnerable it's as though I could pick up a pebble from the beach and hit it.

Looking at the real guy the character is based on Pesci wouldn't be an obvious choice, but Scorese obviously saw the roles great potential for Pesci (physical similarities be damned).

Also, Tommy D was way way more of a murderous psycho than Pesci portrayed - as hard as that is to believe.

You make a good point about Scorcese casting "against type" in Goofellas with his choice of Joe Pesci. However, Joe was the perfect "typecast" for his portrayal of the diminutive Chicago enforcer Tony Spilatro, a full-blown psychopath, depicted in the movie "CASINO".

There is fascinating YouTube footage of Spilatro in real life; he was a very short guy but very scary because there was absolutely NOTHING he would not do to another human, if he could profit by it.

Marty, in a couple of his threads ago, praised the insight of the movie "Life of Pi". I think Marty has come to a forgiveness of his past actions and mentally turned it into having gone through a spiritual journey that has brought him to a deeper understanding of self then most people will ever realize exists, let alone is possible to experience.

I think what it means, is that the poster feels that Marty forgives himself for all of the nasty shit he has done (I do not agree, I think he sees himself as a badass and likes it). Anyway, the process of forgiving himself is something he views as a flowery spiritual journey that only someone like he could experience or even understand.
