Does the Touch Assist Work?

I saw the touch assist only once; I was at EPF at that time.

A little girl got hit by the elevator door, her Mom was doing touch assist on her.

The girl was only 8, but she obeyed her Mom's commands like a good Scientologist would do.

The pain was eventually gone after 3 minutes of touch assist. Two EPFers were standing next to me, they reacted to the procedure as if it was some kind of miracle.

But I was not impressed; I thought that a simple rubbing of the skin would make the pain go away in less than a minute. There is a good reason for that -- the rubbing goes on without interruptions, but the touch assist is a series of touches and withdrawals, so it doesn't go on uninterrupted. These is a theory behind the skin rubbings, it says that the brain gets confused by various neuron signals, so it suppresses the pain.

My observation led me to conclusion that the touch assist works, although it is not the most effective way of ending the pain.

What do you think about the touch assist?

It's a therapy that addresses "flows" in the body. How well it works depends on how messed up one's "flows" are, the various balances and imbalances thereof, and how much any such blockage is contributing to the condition.

In a word, maybe. :)

As with everything - Hubbard stole therapies and philosophies from other practices, wrapped his Scio Speak around it to twist it up a bit and $old it to members following and trapped in his cult.

Massage, Chiropractic, human attention - it all helps. Human connections help - love and compassion ( Scientology sells it as ARC but it is fake and phony love and compassion - it only lasts until the member has a stat from you)

In Scientology - those assists cost you big time....any help Scientology does give you will cause 4,543,432,232 times more pain than help.

Massage is generally quite nice, but please be aware that many medics believe massage may accelerate the spread of cancer cells within the body. Scientology says only daft things about cancer, of course. For members of the UFO cult, there are far greater dangers than a bit of massage.

Hey guess what? If you do NOTHING, pain will subside by itself!

There is no way to scientifically test the efficacy of touch assists. How fast would pain subside with or without the mumbo jumbo? No way to test, because each person/injury is different.

The important thing is that belief in Hubbard is what makes it all "work". Placebo effect is awesome!

Same thing with PTS handling for someone sick. They would get better eventually ANYWAY, but the indoctrinated slaves will attribute healing to the miraculous Tek. Cuz Hubbard said so.

It's the same with Christian faith healings, voodoo, praying to Allah, whatever. People want to believe, and their belief makes it so.

Until it doesn't.

scientology can even find ruin in a person's flows.

Oh, a wise guy,eh?
A touchy subject.

I had a couple of very good sessions but mostly there were mediocre results.

I wouldn't waste my time on that. I would go to my acupuncturist.

Studies have shown that good-looking guys who give touch assists to young women always get the best results....and vice versa. (i.e. Good-looking women giving touch assists to young men).

I'm only partly joking here.....think about it.

If Johnny Depp had given me a touch assist 30 years ago when I was in, I would have written a RAVE success story!! Miracle cure!!

Unlike many reports concerning touch assists I've seen, I got consistently good results when giving them during my years in the cult.

I attribute that to couple reasons.

There IS a healing power behind touch which is explored a bit in this post on Web MD:

The Healing Power of Touch
These four hands-on therapies can ease your stress, anxiety, pain, and more. Read on to find the best remedy for you. <snip>

Most importantly though, I had a great deal of certainty that touch assists would work and fully expected that they would work. I'm sure that this confidence came across during my interaction with people receiving them, and I feel that this helped me maximize the power of the placebo effect (which can be quite powerful).

I will always contend & deeply believe that at least 85 % of the workability of any ' ology is solely based on the belief of the person receiving it.

Does praying to a yellow fire plug work ? Or, well, to the God ( or Gods ) of ones choice.

Does a Voodoo Doll work ?

Does modern medicines work ?

Does acupuncture work ?

Does Grand Mothers old-hand-me-down-for-generations mixtures work ?

Does a Shaman really do a dance that heals people ?

Does a TA work ?

If one believes strongly enough - OH HELL YES they ALL work !

Just recognize ALL the healing power ( etc ) is WITHIN the person NOT the 'process' !

It IS what YOU bring to the table YOURSELF & NOT EVER what someone else brought to you.

Stop giving power to the life sucking soul robbing family destroying gurus !

I hated giving and receiving touch assists.

I felt stupid giving them during public disasters like the earthquakes in Los Angeles where the VMs would go out and set up tables. I loved helping, giving out water and support, but always wondered what the people thought about the touch assists.

I have to admit though, I loved getting nerve assists. Maybe it helped the lymphatic system?

I suspect that after a while many of us would have done anything to avoid giving or receiving a "touch assist" (they were so mind numbingly BORING) and were probably very careful never to appear to "need" one. I had a couple when I first got in, realised they [STRIKE]were ridiculous[/STRIKE] hadn't made any difference and always "had a win" as fast as possible after that if someone managed to pin me down.

For me, it became just another thing to add to the long list of things to be "careful" about in scientology, I truly learned to walk on eggshells whenever I was in the company of a scientologist and had I felt any kind of pain I would've kept it to myself rather than submit to someone prodding at me with his finger and repeating "feel my finger" like a parrot.

Sigh ...

It's so good to be out.

I did one that performed very well. A colleague fell
and hurt her back. On receiving my touch assist she
thought I'd cured a broken back.

Those I received did little. Have a good tolerance
of pain and can as is it reasonably well.

My ''feel my finger'' experience is like the following

The touch assist is one of the most annoying thing to go through..it's a race..no communication there, that only builds up frustration and a strong urge to end it. You are left alone only when you cog what exactly you must originate..so, you get that, next time you have a pain, you STFO , go back home, hide from family, lift your matress, get the hidden magic evil bottle you recover deep in the fabric, open it, take 2 tylenol caps, put it carefully back in it's secret hiding place ; hoping your crime willl never be discovered..or even worse, your spouse won't notice and out you!

When your pc originates you healed her\him..chances are he\she can't stand it one more second! Been there done that!
