EPIC SCIENTOLOGY PROTEST - Sydney Aug 14, 2010

This is no longer an issue in Australia. The masks are off some months ago. OSA has been de-fanged. The photographer was spotted at the other end of the street looking for the demonstration. :eyeroll: Don't know why he still bothers. No-one cares.

Hubbard was right Australia is really the first cleared continent from Scientology aids :D

There was some trolling going on. We had coffee thrown at us and a few incidents along the way. Every now and then they lose it. In this case, I think the blow-back from the senate inquiry has pushed a few of them over the edge.

Yes, but they mostly missed the protesters, just a few splashes on us, and they drenched a parked car, which the security guard then had to wash, and it was smack in the middle of the demonstration.

The security guard that took a swipe at my camera a few months ago was giving us the peace sign today. Seems like they are trying the "be nice to protesters" gamut again.

Post game report

Yeah -where's the post-raid?:D

OH, all right! :coolwink:

The big recruitment effort netted us about 5 actual protesters that were completely new. We had about 20 all up. But the raid was fun and I think the newbies will be back. A few more joined in as we passed the Broadway shopping centre near the AO, about 5 more but they didn't stay for that long.

We tried a new route down Oxford St and Crown St. For non Sydneysiders, these are busy streets close to the CBD. Oxford St is the gay area. We made a few stops at busy intersections for 15-20 min to wave signs at the cars and hand out flyers. The pace was good. No time to get bored and have people wandering off. Public response was good.

Then we spent half an hour at Hercules St warehouse in the back lane. Pretty uneventful. A security guard came and sat in his car for most of the time. A couple of people came along and walked into the org. They would not engage in conversation.

Then the walk down Broadway to the AO. The group was pretty lively. The coffee incident made it a bit livlier. They had a couple Scn security guards at the front door. Every window was closed and blinds shut. They had VERY loud music blaring to drown us out. After about 20 minutes, the cops arrived. They looked really bored and sauntered slowly down the street. A couple of anons went to talk to them, then they went over and had the Scilons turn off the blaring music. :D They also took flyers.

:hysterical:

Tojo (DSA Syd org) came out when I was speaking, so I went to talk to him for about 45 min. I am spoon feeding him truth. Someone from the dance studio came out and asked us to move across the street so the kids could walk down that side, (narrow footpaths) so we moved over to the demonstrators side, essentially adding one more body to the protest.

Then we all went to the pub, except for Tojo and the security guards. Perhaps they will be joining us sometime down the line. :whistling:

I took a bit of video. I'll try to get that up tomorrow. Zhent was very busy at Uni so couldn't work his usual magic with the video.

Malcolm, however, is faster off the draw and has his pictures posted.

Hey All,

It was still a great day even tho the turn out was not as big as expected.. The good news is alot of people did want to come it was just a very busy weekend in sydney with a massive gay rights rally and the city to surf and a few other major events...

So overall i think we did pretty well and will be trying the facebook event again over the next couple of months... Even if we only attract 5-10 more actual protesters each time, something is better then nothing right
