FOAD!

I supped BOTH org Acads for 6 months straight while every other sup in the world was pulled to LA for the KTL/LOC overt product cycle.......

dilletantes......

Remembered someone else - gal named (or called) Jude Sullivan/Lobelle - kinda spacey, but I liked her - and a kid named George who would roll in on a skateboard - and a gal sup named Lou Dockendorf whose daughter's in so, or was, and sits in front or the reg area @ flag. Wow, memories starting to fill in a bit here.

I'm wondering if there is any way some of us could have a reunion or "get together " and have mixed feelings as to whether is would be "good" or "lame"
has this thought been discussed anywhere? Should we? I'd love to hear.

How could you think that of me, dear girl?

As long as I am not just a via to Pixie!

Dear Good Twin,

:confused2: I always remain true to the "date" of the evening. And if you are she then I'm with you for the duration - as long as your pleasure dictates! :arose:

(aside: I see Pixie is back in one of her best "frocks" - do you suppose she may actually be gonna go "out" and test the social "waters" where she resides? Wouldn't it be salaciously splendid to be a "fly on the wall" and see what happens? Well, I'm hoping she does, because strong, competent, opinionated, attractive women with good appetites are right down my alley! :happydance: ...and I fear that, after all, I may be "too old for her"; despite the fact that "she's not too young for me"!:whistling: )

Did you make up "Margaret's Special Sauce" - I'm burning with curiosity :waiting: to know whether and how it works for you. :omg: ...hope you didn't make it toooo hot.....

Later,

Aww, EP you sweet talker you. The avatar Pixie is wearing is her "original" I believe. She has been going through dramatic changes since her arrival here. I wouldn't take anything for granted concerning her identity. Just sit back and enjoy the ride. She continues to unfold by the hour.
Oh YES. The sauce is scrumptious. No not too hot, just hot enough. Turns out I forget that yesturday was Grandma's birthday, so had the perfect excuse to cook all day. Lovely. Thanks for the recipe.

Jude Lobell. Her mom was Eve Lobell, a long time auditor there. Very nice lady. George....yeh, with glasses. If I can find the pic, he showed up at one of the Anon events and tried some lame bullbaiting.......

Lou Dockendorf - she came from Orange County, if I recall correctly, and married Steve Dockendorf, who the Old FCDC Guard probably remember.

A party has been discussed but the geriatric set just wants to watch.....it will be up to some of us to make it happen if it is so desired......

You are so right the "FCDC" thread has been Hi-Jacked by invaders from different threads and orgs. The problem lies in the fact that the invaders are very nice people who contribute to the board and simple as it may sound- I like these people. What's interesting is that the "fcdc" thread is the only one of it's kind. No other org and time period attracts so much attention. It's probably "GoButtons" erudition that pulls in these extroverted and kind theatans.

Dear Good Twin, Pixie, Div6 and all,

:happydance: THRILLED that you prepared, used and LIKED the sauce. I have actually seen folks pour a shot and drink it straight... :omg: Also, when you are just cooking in the oven - say a couple of split "fryin'-size" chickens - just keep basting them heavily and the cooked sauce that results is another wonderful thing altogether - so do not discard it, but put it on the table sorta like gravy. Same for ribs done in the oven. Actually I like things in the oven almost as well as on the grill.:gathering: The whole crowd will be pleased.

Yes, Pixie, Good Twin's Avatar is splendid as is yours, my lady.:itstrue:

Now, group (don't look or listen, Pix!) I'm thing that Pixie is about where she can be appropriately declared a PRODUCT and a SUPERIOR PRODUCT, at that. What do you think? Another SP turned loose in the field. That's a STAT!

Everyone - a round of applause and take a bow!

The next recepie will probably be "Peach Cobbler" since "P's" are so prevalent 'round here. Yes ?

Just to be "Thread consistent" - FCDC names: John Walet (now living in CW - or was) was ED for a while and Emily (wife) was EO at one point. Chas Oliver started as "green grass" and went all the way up to Sr C/S and did not renew. Chas was wonderful, sane boy - must still be "cause he opted off staff despite leaving a lovely wife "in" - divorced, I heard. Sad. All other data on this thread correct to the best of my knowledge.

Luv yawl,

EP

EDIT: I hit "post reply" before really finished - but I'll just let it go....bye-bye for now

Peach Cobbler? Bring it on....you will be catering the FCDC shindig, so start preparing....

John was a good guy. Good auditor too. I did not know Chas, but sounds like he kept his integrity intact. Good for him. Brook Campbell, Jerry Newman, William Stanley, Steve Lower are more names from that time period...Rod Jenkins was LRH Comm at one point, went off to Gold, and then came back.....not much to his liking, I guess.....

Being part of the "geriatric set"- I suppose- yes we wish to be fed and entertained by those with younger theatans-but boy oh boy do we have the stories to make you laugh so hard that your bts will blow away with all mirth. We were of the "Woodstock" generation so we do know how to party hardy!:happydance:

Steve Dockendorf played in a band called DC WHEELS that did a DC gig every so often at Club Soda (ibid.). I messaged him a number of years ago at his WISE-affiliated day job in the N. Va area and was firmly told to shove off.

We still get a holiday card from Jude each year. She was the ethics person who met me after I blew from the ITO in 1990 and took a bus back to DC. She is an alumni of the "People Pickle" restaurant, and the lunch counter at Schwartz's drug store, both on Conn Ave. Also an early participant in the Pilot KTL in LA, in the 1979-80 period, after she was ripped from the DC org staff with no replacement.

Wow. I forgot all about the People Pickle. We use to call it the Purple Pickle, but I forgot why. They had great sandwiches there. There was also Childe Harold. I only went there once or twice, but Chuck Judge use to go there often. But ealier than these (as the geriatric set will remember) the popular place to eat was the cafeteria on Connecticut Avenue. I don't know what is there now, I think a bank and a Roy Rogers.
When I started staff I didn't receive any pay for the first threee months. Joe Breeden was the ED. Then Irene Breeden took over, so after awhile I was making $5 to $10 a week. Then Dave Richards took over. Soon it was steadily $40 a week, then $60 then. By 1974 I was making $200 to $250 each week. This was when there were about 100+ staff. We all worked both orgs, so it probably worked out to about $100 each org.
I don't know how it ended up by the time Franks came and left, or in the 1980s or 1990s or even in the 2000s. I'd be curious to know if any body cares to tell.

Pretty sure this is talked about upthread. You mean Schwartz's right? The place on the corner with the mean little black waitress who was always angry and had three tables to cover, and then the guy at the end of the lunch counter with the clubfoot who made the meanest sandwiches anywhere. I'm pretty sure I'm repeating myself at this point - but Schwartz's was the best thing about my whole time in DC.

Schwartz's was good too, but I mean the cafeteria on Connecticut Ave. above S street. I think it was run by Marriott. It was a big place. Schwartz's was good for breakfast and lunch, but alot of people ate at the cafateria. I know Gordon Bell told me of the place and he ate there often.

OK - right. that would be in the other direction on Conn Ave from S street. yeah I been in there too. I had breakfast there a few times too. All I could ever afford was breakfast. It was my one meal of the day.

Just north of the "S" Street location on Connecticut Ave. there was a Hot Shoppes Cafeteria. When Willard Marriott and the board decided to start closing the cafeterias, it became the Universal Cafeteria for a while. Many people on fixed or low incomes ate there due to seniors pricing and a lenient attitude toward loitering. In 1981, President Regan was shot by John Hinckley outside the Washington Hilton Hotel right around the corner.

Schwartz's wasn't really a cafeteria, but a pharmacy with a lunch bar in the back (as I recall). In the 1970's there was a public parking lot entrance right up the street, and a bar with a sawdust floor. Irish music was played and some dancing occurred. For a while there was a "men's club" at the intersection of Florida and Connecticut Avenues. We're talking transitional neighborhood in the late 1970's with a flavor of demilitarized zone after dark.

That's it, Hot Shoppes!
Don't forget the Empire Room. That latter became Food for thought. But Some of us ate at the Empire Room too.

When I was on staff (73-75) there was also a little shop that we called the Egyptian Embassy since it was a gathering place for lots of middle easterners. Great cheese steaks, and the proprietor would even let you run a tab, which came in real handy more than once. Can't remember the real name of the place, tho.

That may have been the Empire Room. It was run by Egyptians and on Friday nights they even had belly dancers. It was located on the west side on Connecticut Ave just about two or three doors south of S Street. But that was gone before 1975. I recall vaguely a smaller place on the same side of the street, also run by Egyptians. But I only was there once or twice. Believe it or not there was another place on S street run by Egyptians. It was between Connecticut Ave and 20th street, across from Safeway.
I just thought of the other restaraunt south of Dupont Circle where many staff would eat on the weekends. I can't remember the name though.

They were Syrians. they bought it from an American guy and had the best cheeseburgers going, but I could only usually afford them once a month.

Am I the only one noticing that the only thing we are talking about is food??

ON EDIT: I've just remembered the ONLY thing I picked up in my experience in DC in 75 that I still have with me and it was from this place - To this day I still put pepper on my French Fries. I learned it here. And... that's about it for DC I think...
