Food "Havingness"

By the way CP ... thanks for bringing this up.

I used to (before this thread) think that I was just wierd because I had this habit: Go to the store for a week and buy 5 packages of meat (3 for freezing), 6 packages of pasta, 2 loaves of bread (1 for freezing), 10 frozen meals, 2 packages of bagels (for freezing), 4 boxes of cereal, 12 yogurts, etc, etc. And then use ONE box of cereal, and of course, the next week, buy 2 more boxes of cereal because I am now low on cereal. Use 2 packages of pasta, and have to buy 3 more because I am now low on pasta, etc, etc etc.

Of course, there were times when I would skip a week or two because I had too much food. And then freak out because I only had 2 weeks of food left in the pantry. :nervous:

I guess I'm not the only one either ... my needle is now floating too ...

This all cracks me up. Whenever we do all get together to have a party whomever is placed in charge of the food will have to try not to bring enough for 5000. :D

I always wind up with GOBS of food leftover when I throw a party. I buy usually about 3 times as much as I need.

I am actually developing quite the paunch lately.

But I do remember Schwartz's Drug Store On Conn Ave in DC as being kind of a paradise. On the day I had money I ate a big... no HUGE breakfast. Then coasted for the next six days.

I just saw the storefront that was Schwartz's Drug Store. It is now a Starbucks. I'll get a picture of it next time.

Just before every winter, I gather nuts and bury those in select places around my neighborhood. In the spring, I seem to remember where those places are and dig those up for snacks. Seasonal behavior, I guess.
Smitty

That's funny, Smitty. I once sent a squirrel a 3-d picture of a fat juicy acorn and he ran around the tree looking for it, but it was in his head. I only did that once, so please don't call the Humane Society.

I do the same thing whenever I cook for a potluck. I always make too much.

OH GAWDS the holiday meals my family throws ....

EVERYONE in my family does this. When we have thanksgiving, we feed 10-15 people. I do a salad which is sufficient to feed 10 as a meal, my sister does a turkey, my sister in law does a turkey, my brother does a ham, there are 7 or 8 pies, I also make around 80 fruit cupcakes, my sister-in-law makes a whole pan of mashed potatoes, my father brings .. etc, etc.

To get the RIGHT amount, we each would have to bring enough to feed 1 person. So if 10 people show, there would be enough for 10 people. But where's the fun in that?
