Just posted, a detailed list of Infinite Complacency's coverage of the French prosecution of Scientology for fraud, organised fraud and the illegal practice of pharmacy.

http://infinitecomplacency.blogspot.com/2013/11/the-paris-trial-coverage-2009-2013.html

From the original trial to the final convictions at the Court of Cassation, France's top court, the case ran from 2009 and 2013.

As well as first-hand reports from each of the three courts involved, you will find coverage of the campaign Scientology fought outside the courtroom and other controversies that arose along the way.

This is probably more detail than anyone will ever need, but this list should make it easier for readers to pick and choose those aspects of the case they want to examine.

It is also a much-needed springclean for the front page of the site: with more than 50 posts on this subject alone, there were too many there for anyone to navigate. Once this latest post moves off the front page, you will be able to find it via a single link in the right-hand column.

It was clear from the outset that this case deserved extensive coverage because of its potential to be a legal landmark – and that is how it turned out.

For the first time that I'm aware of, Scientology as an organisation has been convicted in the criminal courts of fraud for its core business practices: for its use of the Personality Test and the hard-sell techniques it inflicts upon its members.

The convictions for illegal practice of pharmacy against some of the individuals also raises questions about the legality of the way the movement runs the Purification Rundown – if not the legality of the Rundown itself.

I will be taking a closer look at the implications of the ruling at a later date. And of course the story is not finished: Scientology has already announced it is taking the case to the European Court of Human Rights.

And yes, I really should get out more.

Best, Jonny

Thank-you for all you do Jonny including coverage of this case in France!

Very true, and a great place for you to get out to would be the Flag Down 2014 event which will be in Clearwater. :)
Chance would be a fine thing: unfortunately my hours at work have changed, leaving me with even less time for the blog. So I'll be posting at a slower pace for the forseeable future.

Some good comments (as usual) over at the Bunker. I'll put a couple of them here:

Tony has a great article on Anne Hildago, the Mayor of Paris:

“Parisians have to be informed about their presence and the danger they pose,” she added. “It is not a church, Scientology, it is a movement that attacks people in distress.”

EDIT: I don't know of a more honest statement from any politician.
