Getting High

When I got in Scn I was fresh from another part of the country. I had traveled from the east coast to the west. I was big into pot.
Having arrived in Calif. I didn't know anyone. (well, almost anyone)

I had a bit of pot with me.

While on the comm course I occasionally got high.

The mission I was at offered a "free" intro auditing session-with a Class VI auditor for only $10.00! I signed up.
One of the first questions was if I had any drugs in the last six weeks! I knew enough that: a. what you say in an auditing session was
"Priest-Penitent confidential" and that B: I would get nowhere if I lied, so I said "yes, I'd smoked pot." The auditor said she couldn't audit me because of that, but we could continue, with her showing me LRH data on the effects of drugs.

She showed me several refs by LRH on the effects of drugs and then asked me what i thought.
I told her that the LRH data was interesting, but different from other info I had from other sources on drugs. She acked me and we eventually finished our "session."

The next time I came in for course I suddenly had to go see someone called the Ethics Officer (whom I had never heard of before.)

She asked me about my smoking pot while on course andwe discussed what happened in the session. She suggested something.
She Suggested that since I knew what life was like with pot, how about trying not smoking for a while and see how it goes.

She asked me to try not smoking for a while and seeing how things were. I agreed. And for two or three months didn't get high.

Then a former girlfriend (and a couple of her friends) came in to town from the East. We hung out for a day. They had gone to San Francisco for the day and had come back. We met up and were having the time of our lives talking about what they had seen and done and what they saw. While we were talking, one of them brought out a joint, fired it up and started passing it around. I was in the mode of "not getting high" for the last couple months, so I passed it without taking a toke, but after it passed a couple of times I thought, I've abstained for a while, let's see what it's like to try it again. I took a hit and passed it, and took a hit and passed it...and I noticed that each time the joint passed the talking seemed to slow down, each time it passed the excitement diminished, until everyone was staring off into space, no one was talking to anyone and everyone was stoned and silent. I held the joint as I saw this and realized "this doesn't make you high. It makes you LOW." And I never went back to it.

That was the end of my drug career.

I do credit that to some smart scientologists.

I don't credit scientology.

Were you also listening to music at that point in time?
Under those circumstances, sometimes the music "takes over" and conversation stops.
