"One who strikes a blow" - it was used to mean shock troops in WWII and to mean "shock workers" who greatly overfilled their quota after that. If you went 125% of quota or more in the late USSR, it was an official title in the workplace. I was awarded the rank of Udarnik in the Moscow Student Workers Brigades in 1988. I use a picture of the pin I was awarded as my avatar.

Spent a grand total of 18 hours over the last 4 days sending the above text out by emails (quite fast) and then a large part of yesterday 9 April assembling snail-mails to the exact same list (a real boring chore, believe me!.....a small investment in postage, but for a very good cause.
I know what most of you think of this as a futile exercise, but my experience of doing this double-edge mailings has had success in the past, so crossed fingers and all.

The publicist said that murky politics and even outright wrongdoing is nothing uncommon in organized religion, but usually exclusively in its upper echelons. In Scientology, he said most of his own clients don’t take the organization and its byzantine hierarchy that seriously.

“My clients who are and were involved are usually getting something out of it, jobs or recognition,” the insider said of church members who have worked with him over the years.
