Thanks for posting about this.

Do you know if these were the "Vargas" lithographs based upon Battlefield Earth?

It has been posted about before here on ESMB that once David Miscavige got control of the cult's finances....that he (for some reason) took some cult money and tried his luck at speculating in OIL FUTURES.....and lost around $10 million dollars.

The Vargas Battlefield Earth Lithographs....was a program by David Miscavige to recoup that money....and put it back in the Cult's coffers....or at least that is what I've read.

Vargas was a famous Pin Up Girl airbrush artist...his work was in Playboy Magazine for decades....

Personally, I don't really know anything about it.....but was a Public with the cult, during this period....and the art works were promoted as an "investment..." and very expensive.

Thanks for replying Leland. I'm sorry to say that I know nothing at all about what this so-called artwork was. I really wish I had asked him because he would have told me the whole truth about it.

Thank you for the YouTube link, Karen. I do love watching your videos and seeing how passionate you are about all this. BTW, now you have 555 likes compared to 42 dislikes.

It seems to me that the "art" you are all talking about is what he purchased however I'm still a bit baffled about what he told my niece how it was all stolen out of storage. Maybe that was just a cover story when realizing that he had been bamboozled? I wonder.

Stuff DID get stolen !

I've known more than a few SO members who got sent on a mission so that had all their stuff stashed in the covered parking lot under their berthing bldg. that got stolen by other SO members. Paintings, bicycles, appliances, modest furniture - you name it & it got stolen.
And sometimes not even leaving the org their stuff disappeared from the stowage area. PAC was worst of all !

Reporting it to 'ethics' only got a " you pulled it in ! go write up YOUR o/w's ! "

Ah, yes, the most ethical group on the planet . . . . . . . that stole from one another.

Well PAC was where he was. The irony in all this is that he was security! At least for quite a few years.

I doubt your friend's artwork was stolen, because no one would bother stealing tacky soft porn sci-fi lithos. (I'm sure teenage boys might of liked them for some "bathroom reading.") Maybe he didn't pay his storage fees somewhere and they were disposed of or maybe he just discovered their actual value and saying they were "stolen" was easier than the truth.

It never ceases to amaze at how unbelievably bad David Miscavige's taste is in EVERYTHING. Art (Franzeta titty lithos), speeches (Sherman speak), interiors (his offices at INT, a horrible mixture of early 1990's and Memphis with terrible Frank Lloyd Wright imitations thrown in), architecture (Super Power/Flag/Ideal Orgs), films (Battlefield Earth), clothing (see his ridiculous hermes sweater in We Stand Tall video), hair (pompadore), business planning (ideal orgs), etc.... Is there ANYTHING this guy isn't terrible at? Anything??? it's like a retarded brat got a hold of a billion dollar piggy bank. Actually he is good at one thing, being an ignorant bully. Sad that the CoS structure rewarded a walking little man complex who's only ability was being a ruthless bully.

It's doubly sad that he gave up a home in San Fran for a heap of worthless lithographs. (Not even original artwork). Given the jaw dropping rise in prices for homes and land in the San Fran and Silicon Valley area he could have comfortably retired just holding on to the home he owned. Very very sad. The way the CoS used and manipulated it's slaves makes me physically ill to think about.

Particularly in PAC, So members did have stuff stolen out of the stowage area of the covered parking lot.

Bicycles, professional drum sets, musical instruments, appliances - you name it got stolen from where it was designated to be stored.

I always suspected who whoever stole it was going to the pawn shop for food money.

A musician friend of mine parked his pick up truck with a camper shell near that SO stowage area. When he came out of AOLA his electric guitar, his amps, all his sound equip was gone. The guy lived in a dirt floor single car garage &, in his own words, was on the " Struggle Rundown ".
It took a long time for him to replace his stuff he made his living with. ( He -most likely- is till in ! )

If your friend, by stowage, meant the SO stowage it would not have been at all unusual for his stuff to be stolen.

Aw, what we ignored!

Commercial Stowage thefts are rare & most people in the SO can not pay rent on a stowage locker.
I had a 10x10 that cost me like $225/month & then a 10x15 that was like $325/month.
&, Yes, some in the SO can pay out big money.

I covered some of Author's services (ASI) scam here ~~

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Objim2gIlbY

I wondered why I got 42 dislikes, highest ever on any video.
So I looked it up in YouTube video manager which graphically displays which country the poster who posted DISLIKE comes from.
I found that the DISLIKES came from
Khazikstan,
Bangla Desh,
Rumania,
Bulgaria
Slovakia

I am sure folk in these Countries care very much about the reputation of Author Services :)

They were probably hoping for more "soft porn" in your video. :p

Maybe LRH in a g-string. :)

I remember SO regs with offices at Sterling. At one time Sterling was Flags single largest supply of PCs.
Sterling got immense FSM checks !

The hook? Sterling was FORCED to buy artwork from ASI that was an exact match for their bottom line profit.

Anyone else remember the lady just back from doing ot8 that had a private office because all she did every day was just sit & cry uncontrollably ?

I heard after she left Sterling she joined the SO at Flag.

Surely, someone posting here has the scoop on the crush selling of ( cough-cough ) "artwork" from ASI.

I do remember that when public artists were declared people were told they could not display that artwork anywhere & could not sell it either !
I still have artwork in my home that is damned good done by people who got declared. ( I've not sold any of it because I love it ! ).
That " not supporting an sp " BS didn't make sense even when I in the cult.

But as finicky as they were about what art could be owned, shown, or sold, uh, I wasn't about to buy "art" ASI when they demanded so much control over what art one could have.

The same thing happened at Singer Consultants around the time it became David Singer Enterprises. A number of staff had the pictures and were exhilarated at how much the art was going to appreciate. Lol

These paintings (or lithos, cannot tell which are what that we're talking about) but I do have to take exception regarding what appears to be Frazetta's.
While you may not like his work, it is not pornography. While a zillion folks have now copied him, he was the true blue artist that started the whole thing (that style, fantasy based: hot chicks, over the top muscle men and dragons, lions, tigers and bears. So if they were originals, then there's some serious bucks here (there?!?).

I think it's a huge stretch to call them porn...I mean EVERY museum on planet earth has nudes in it. Is this all porn?

Some folks just don't like it and that's fine...but he was a biggy (like founding forefather) in that whole genre.

It's funny how even critics can stretch the truth. Kinda bums me out sometimes here on ESMB...

yes, I'd agree. This great work by Edmund Burke is worth a read:

https://ebooks.adelaide.edu.au/b/burke/edmund/sublime/part3.html#part3.1

https://ebooks.adelaide.edu.au/b/burke/edmund/sublime/index.html

And I'm sure Playboy tapped into the sublime by using beauty of the women in most fantastic poses without any "porn". And so does the swimsuit competition everywhere such as Sports Illustrated.

Agreed: The Playboy/Vargus stuff leans towards that, but that's how Pboy rolled: Rode through it just on the very knife edge of indecency and mostly near the end of the pinup age, and regarding the now famous Vargus work.

Not sure if it still is a 'thing' or whatever, (pinups, etc) Hell: I was pissed when SnapOn (hi-end tool maker) stopped doing their calendars!

My words previous were more bent towards Frazetta though, and I've seen plenty of people here jump on the bandwagon of "porn: it MUST be abolished" BS, mostly though due the DN and SCN connection.

Frazetta was cool stuff - and just plain sorry for those that don't enjoy his work/get it - But that's OK.

I shut da pie-hole up now.

Back to rehash the OP - you are talking about a soulless bureaucracy, which is why they do such crazy crap. A friend of mine's mom had gotten an inheritance when her hubby passed. They recruited her into the SO, then regged her to give the entire inheritance to them, then routed her out when she couldn't make it on the EPF. Never having any workplace experience, since she was a house wife all her married years, what could she do? Live on her husbands SS and move in with her grown up kids.

Is that a sane action? Is it elder abuse? Is it on a par of those people who prey on senior citizens and defraud them out of their money? It is none of those - it is salvaging this sector of the universe, it is the greatest good for the greatest # of dynamics. Wha??? you say. Yep. That's why she gave them the money and had no regrets, even after they routed her out.

You're right on the money, Mimsey. Seniors often are easy prey. However, the woman that Tori interviews in this video wasn't quite so helpless. I'm sure this video is old news but it is certainly worth revisiting. This woman is so great. I wonder whatever happened to her.

They must have promised him an immediate sizable return because I just can't see him taking a second mortgage out on a house knowing that he could not pay the monthly payments. Such a sad case of blind faith and trust.

And I think ASI selling that stuff does, in fact, qualify as SOFT PORN.

Why ? Look at the tight views the cult has on sex - like sex & pain. Or masturbation is an overt. Or no sex unless married. All that kind of POLICY.

Then sell pictures of buff men & big tits women ? Your are kidding me right ?

Yes, museums have long had nudes in paintings & statues by acknowledged great masters & have no ridge on the wrongness of humans.

How can you compare great works of art in the great museums to a money grubbing cult that shows some tits to sell their soft porn ?

PS : Who is your " Founding Forefather " ? I'm really curious !
