Stuff DID get stolen !
I've known more than a few SO members who got sent on a mission so that had all their stuff stashed in the covered parking lot under their berthing bldg. that got stolen by other SO members. Paintings, bicycles, appliances, modest furniture - you name it & it got stolen.
And sometimes not even leaving the org their stuff disappeared from the stowage area. PAC was worst of all !
Reporting it to 'ethics' only got a " you pulled it in ! go write up YOUR o/w's ! "
Ah, yes, the most ethical group on the planet . . . . . . . that stole from one another.

I doubt your friend's artwork was stolen, because no one would bother stealing tacky soft porn sci-fi lithos. (I'm sure teenage boys might of liked them for some "bathroom reading.") Maybe he didn't pay his storage fees somewhere and they were disposed of or maybe he just discovered their actual value and saying they were "stolen" was easier than the truth.
It never ceases to amaze at how unbelievably bad David Miscavige's taste is in EVERYTHING. Art (Franzeta titty lithos), speeches (Sherman speak), interiors (his offices at INT, a horrible mixture of early 1990's and Memphis with terrible Frank Lloyd Wright imitations thrown in), architecture (Super Power/Flag/Ideal Orgs), films (Battlefield Earth), clothing (see his ridiculous hermes sweater in We Stand Tall video), hair (pompadore), business planning (ideal orgs), etc.... Is there ANYTHING this guy isn't terrible at? Anything??? it's like a retarded brat got a hold of a billion dollar piggy bank. Actually he is good at one thing, being an ignorant bully. Sad that the CoS structure rewarded a walking little man complex who's only ability was being a ruthless bully.
It's doubly sad that he gave up a home in San Fran for a heap of worthless lithographs. (Not even original artwork). Given the jaw dropping rise in prices for homes and land in the San Fran and Silicon Valley area he could have comfortably retired just holding on to the home he owned. Very very sad. The way the CoS used and manipulated it's slaves makes me physically ill to think about.

Particularly in PAC, So members did have stuff stolen out of the stowage area of the covered parking lot.
Bicycles, professional drum sets, musical instruments, appliances - you name it got stolen from where it was designated to be stored.
I always suspected who whoever stole it was going to the pawn shop for food money.
A musician friend of mine parked his pick up truck with a camper shell near that SO stowage area. When he came out of AOLA his electric guitar, his amps, all his sound equip was gone. The guy lived in a dirt floor single car garage &, in his own words, was on the " Struggle Rundown ".
It took a long time for him to replace his stuff he made his living with. ( He -most likely- is till in ! )

I had a 10x10 that cost me like $225/month & then a 10x15 that was like $325/month.

These paintings (or lithos, cannot tell which are what that we're talking about) but I do have to take exception regarding what appears to be Frazetta's.
While you may not like his work, it is not pornography. While a zillion folks have now copied him, he was the true blue artist that started the whole thing (that style, fantasy based: hot chicks, over the top muscle men and dragons, lions, tigers and bears. So if they were originals, then there's some serious bucks here (there?!?).
I think it's a huge stretch to call them porn...I mean EVERY museum on planet earth has nudes in it. Is this all porn?
Some folks just don't like it and that's fine...but he was a biggy (like founding forefather) in that whole genre.

Back to rehash the OP - you are talking about a soulless bureaucracy, which is why they do such crazy crap. A friend of mine's mom had gotten an inheritance when her hubby passed. They recruited her into the SO, then regged her to give the entire inheritance to them, then routed her out when she couldn't make it on the EPF. Never having any workplace experience, since she was a house wife all her married years, what could she do? Live on her husbands SS and move in with her grown up kids.
Is that a sane action? Is it elder abuse? Is it on a par of those people who prey on senior citizens and defraud them out of their money? It is none of those - it is salvaging this sector of the universe, it is the greatest good for the greatest # of dynamics. Wha??? you say. Yep. That's why she gave them the money and had no regrets, even after they routed her out.
