For at least eight months, the US Department of Homeland Security has been investigating allegations of human trafficking in the Church of Scientology, TONYORTEGA.ORG has learned.

Since at least the spring, agents with Homeland Security working out of its Tampa office have been interviewing former members of the church who have information about the way children are used as laborers in Scientology’s “Sea Organization” and other matters.

We put in a call to the lead investigator of the probe at the Tampa office, Justin Deutsch, who has been questioning former church members. We have not received a reply.

But we decided to reveal this news after talking to four different ex-Scientologists who gave us detailed information about being interviewed by Homeland Security, and after learning that the probe has been going on for so long.

“Human trafficking is one of the most heinous crimes that our special agents investigate,” said Sue McCormick, special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations Tampa after the sentencing of a trafficker in September (an investigation unrelated to the Church of Scientology).

According to the Homeland Security website, “Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery, and involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to exploit human beings for some type of labor or commercial sex purpose.”

I never believed for a second that the FBI investigation was scuttled. It made no sense for the FBI to reach out to Tony for the purpose of having him publish that the investigation was dead - unless, of course, they wanted someone (like DM) to believe that was the case.

The only thing I believed could have been scuttled is a raid on Int Base prior to November 2012. This is Obama's second term, and I don't believe that Joe Biden has presidential aspirations. Get ready for an exciting year.

Oh, and by the way, I read on MSN earlier today something about TC having moved to London (I'll look for that in a bit and post is thread if I can find it again). If that is really the case, the FBI should make a move while Davey can't flee in his best friend's planes. Because apparently the FBI went so far as to take pictures of the numbers on Top Gun Tommy's plane's tails so that they could intercept him and Davey if they decided to flee. Those bastards weren't fucking around.

Edit: nevermind - TC is going to be in LA for Christmas with Suri. That just came out since this AM in some gossip rags. Well, good time to snatch him if the FBI wants.....

The Church of Scientology is being investigated for human trafficking by the Department of Homeland Security, according to the former editor in chief of the Village Voice, Tony Ortega.

Ortega said the department has been investigating the church for at least eight months. He published the information on his blog, TonyOrtega.org, after speaking with four ex-Scientologists who said they were interviewed by Homeland Security.

This isn’t the first time the organization has been accused of human trafficking. Last year, Lawrence Wright, a staff writer at the New Yorker, wrote a 26-page article about former Scientologist Paul Haggis and revealed that the organization was being investigated. Haggis, a filmmaker who had been in the church for almost thirty-five years, was doing research on the organization at the same time the FBI was conducting its own investigation.

In December 2009, two agents, Tricia Whitehill and Valeria Venegas, interviewed former “Sea Org” members in California about abuse suffered at the hands of David Miscavige, the leader of the Church of Scientology. Two members, Marc and Claire Headley, had filed lawsuits against Miscavige in 2005, saying that the working conditions at the Gold Base, an outpost near Hemet, a town eighty miles southeast of Los Angeles, violated human trafficking and labor laws.

When Wright spoke to Haggis, they discussed some of the other controversies Scientology has been involved in including the death of Lisa McPherson. As we previously reported, the Church of Scientology was accused of spending $30 million to cover up McPherson’s death while she was in the care of other Scientologists. Her parents later sued the organization.

A spokesperson for the Church of Scientology refuted the claims to RadarOnline, saying:
