How do you explain past lives?

I think you are right in what you say and it's important that we stay firmly on the path of logical reasoning and scientific evidence - says I, who is very prone to daydreaming and living in a fantasy world.

But, sometimes when I meet someone whom I should not know, I simply can't explain logically why I feel this way ... I hate poetry (and please accept apologies ‘cause I can't write it for toffee).

OK I'll field these two:

Where have you been my friend? In the garage fixing your toaster
Have you forgotten me? not on your life

Now, you go on and romp in the twlight of poetry and the clouds...

when you're done, come back around. I'll have your toaster done by then.

Hubbard during his years of declining intellect, published a book called "A Test of Whole Track Recall"

This was supposedly a documentary based on a team of sea org members that Hubbard had go around trying to find the gold Hubbard buried when he was Cecil Rhodes...they went to various islands in the Mediterranean and dug holes in the dirt for "Source"

The most curious part about this book was the last chapter, where the book abruptly ends.. without finding ANY EVIDENCE OF WHOLE TRACK RECALL.

Leaving the once genuinely curious reader (including me) wondering WTF? Did I just read what I just read?

The book was later withdrawn from publication and still is 'out of print'.

Mewhaha! - I read that book.. And that's exactly how I felt! WTF!! - All inconclusive allusions to past lives.. In the best traditions of mystical cons spanning the intirity of human history.

Makes me feel real stupid now.. I kept on being a scilon after reading that drivel!

It can be bought still:

Actually, it doesn't prove that yesterday exists. It only proves that a record of yesterday exists. That record could have been created yesterday, tomorrow, or in the present.

Hey man knock yourself out!!

But it begs the question: WTF?

I personally would never put my trust, my loved ones nor my children in he hands of anybody who has a psychological compulsion to prove that certainty and predicability are only based upon one's consideration that they exist. This is a recipe for insanity.

What one thinks or 'considers', in and of itself doesn't mean beans.

Smart men, intelligent men know that actions, repeated actions upon a pre-agreed course are how reality is made certain and predictable. This is how the greater universe operates. This is why the sun rises everyday, despite those who wish to argue that it doesn't. Fortunately the universe doesn't loose any sleep over human minds.

If you disappear in the near future I'll understand why and since it doesn't seem to matter, I won't bother trying to discern wether it occurred yesterday, today or tomorrow.

Actually it's a recipe for understanding the limits of logic. Such an approach does not validate the "reality" of a consideration. What it does is demonstrate inferential bias which may be associated with underlying assumptions. Often when a "common sense" statement or observatrion is analyzed it is found to rest on faulty assumptions. That's why mathematics & philosophy are built around such logical tools. They eliminate logical deadwood.

These are interesting and exciting times; technology is advancing at such a pace that the possibility of interfacing, from a scientific rather than mystical/metaphysical point of view, with the "big questions" that have bedevilled and confused humanity from the beginning is no longer a remote dream but perhaps almost within our grasp?

Thetanists (and I don't mean that pejoratively...I'm by no means a committed "anti-thetanist" myself) despair ye not; forthcoming properly-done scientific research may well prove you right, and if so you'll have that vindication to look forward to.

Simply to say, it seems to me that most discussion here (and elsewhere, as if you hadn't noticed) on the topic of "past lives" etc. rapidly degenerates into the predictable pantomime of "oh yes it is!" v. "oh no it isn't!"....amusing but ultimately pointless, don't you think?

IMHO metaphysics has existed as a means to slake the inevitable thirst of sentient enquiring beings for knowledge when that thirst cannot be quenched by the rational methods available to them; this, quite obviously I think, is the genesis of all religion, really.

In the present moment however, as technology continues to grow, there appears the opportunity to break free of the grasp of faith, belief and a priori speculation; that has to be a better way to go eh?

Solid scientific research for REAL rather than LRH's (amongst others') disingenuous pretences?

I'm not really sure what you are trying to impart, here. Reality is how it is. Our memories may or may not be related to reality. There are many theories about time, and about the nature of the universe. There is also the "common sense" understanding that one thing follows another, and that what happened yesterday actually did happen, etc. You seem to be asserting that because there is a common acceptance of that understanding of memory, or that records demonstrate some form of truth means "this is true". What I'm saying is that there is more to it than that.

I don't expect that I'll disappear tomorrow, and I don't deny that tomorrow will occur, just that there is no real certainty of such things.

As they say in the stock markets, past performance should not be construed as a guaranty of future performance. To that, I'll add that "past performance" may or may not exist.

Evolution (Ronnie Lane)
(My favorite version is from the Meher Baba Birthday album)

Well, once I was a stone, many years ago
Into a pool was thrown, many years ago
Time went by and the pool ran dry
Excavated was I, and tempered and beat in the fiery heat
By the hand of a man, whose name was Dan, Dan the blacksmith

Well once I was a sword, many years ago
And my blade was broad, many years ago
Wore it with pride, and into battle I'd ride, on a warrior side
And cut my tail, their was loss of my tail
And soon did rust ,corrode to dust, oh my

Well once I was a daisy, many years ago
In pastures green and lazy, many years ago
But I was et by a goat who fell in a moat
And forgetting to float he sunk like a lead and stayed until dead
And was relieved to find just how kind it all was

Well once I was a grub, many years ago
And I lived in moat bed mud, many years ago
But on the very first moon, I became a Cocoon
That resembled a prune, and when the good Lord was done
In the warmth of the sun, I shed my skins
And dried my wings and flew away

Well once I was a bullfrog, had to struggle for survival
And once I was a carp and lived in waters on the meadow
And once I was a mynah bird, quoting verses from the Bible
I said "pretty boy, pretty boy, Saint Luke!"

[Guitar solo]

Well once I was a mule, many years ago
And my master treat me cruel, many years ago
By by I was sick, so I moved to a kick,
So I took out a stick , laid it back across my back
To an almighty crack to his dismay
I cast away, into the blue

Then I was born a human baby, many years ago
I remember I was born unto a lady, many years ago
All our hopes were piled on the back of a child
Who turned out to be wild, sent the devil a prayer
And caused the parson to swear so I took my leave
To lie and thieve, my way to jail

Well, I've been a tinker, tailor, soldier, sailor
Known good times and disaster
But now I've found a teacher and the teacher has a master
And the master is perfection, so he'll help us get there faster
Don't need no proof, 'cause it's the truth, and I'll drink to that!
