Something I always wondered about the Intro RD:
If someone is introverted, wouldn't putting them in isolation and not talking with them make them even MORE introverted? I mean, with no outside world to communicate with, that would only leave the "inner world".
Absolutely!
Imagine a word of fears, paranoia, psychosis, one is lost in his mind, locked alone in a room he doesn't know, far from home, everybody (strangers) act a a droid, coming to feed him and enforce drugs on him, without even talking to him, neither any compassion and empathy! 
He is even forbidden to talk to people and be visited by other human being who he cherish.
Who would even think it doesn't cave people into paranoia???

And I wonder if it's possible to get the auditing without the isolation, like, maybe somewhere in the Freezone? Would that be of any value?

Auditing is a torture for anyone experiencing a collapse of the mind\mental.
(the stories we read here tend to prove people are deeply suffering from the $cientology ''treatment'' )
No thinking or answering questions shall be force to them. It should be seen as an abuse of their vulnerability to resist or oppose.
The mind needs rest - the mind says ''i need rest''
Thus, there shall not be any sort of pressure and only gentle, friendly care shall be applied under supervision of a professional, doctor, psych and nurses.
No charlatan practitionner, religious or new-age, shall approach a confused , suffering person in a mental\nervous collapse.
When the person state resume to normal, he \ she is the one to decide what help he\she needs and discuss it with health practitionner or psychologist.
No religion, neither religious cloak or peddlars, shall interfere with healing process.

Any person applying any sort of treatment to ''heal'' or ''handle'' such mental conditions shall have a valid diploma\license to practice the art of healing, otherwise shall be forbidden, by the law of the land, to do such.
Vulnerable people shall be protected.
