How scientology takes care of their "elderlies"

Free to shine

This article has complete letters and "'KRs" about the treatment of Claire Reppen and it is a hard read.

The thing that is so hard for many to comprehend unless they have experienced it is the attitude that underlies the uncaring and arbitrary decisions that are made. Sickness of any kind is basically 'out ethics' and one is treated like the lowest of the low with little or no understanding of the great distress caused and the courage it takes to survive. I had my own experiences on staff as a serious disease progressed and I know this is how it goes ... this story is so heartbreaking in showing how deep the indoctrination is and what type of heartless remnant of a human is left.

Some churches take care of the old — Scientology instead works them to death

We have another disturbing document to share with you today. It contains private details that you may find difficult to read. But the person who brought us the document, the son of its author, wants the public to see what Scientology put his mother through.

Her name was Claire Reppen, and she was well known among our readers who were longtime Scientologists. She was a Class XII auditor, the most technically superior Scientology counselors on the planet, and she worked at the organization’s spiritual mecca in Clearwater, Florida. But Claire eventually fell afoul of Scientology’s leader, David Miscavige (as so many do), and she was sentenced to heavy manual labor at 64 years of age in the Sea Organization’s prison detail, the Rehabilitation Project Force.

She then fell ill. And if there’s one thing you don’t want to be as a dedicated member of Scientology’s Sea Org, it’s advanced in years and sick.

This quote makes me want to vomit, talking about an elderly lady with cancer. She passed away a few months later.

I also have wondered if she is faking being ill – so as to not have to work. I doubt it – but factually her physical universe actions cause me to wonder about that. When I have had elderlies too sick to work they are mostly bedridden, and they dream and postulate about the day they can return to post and serve the group.

I'm not going to say anything more right now, it makes me too upset. Seeing what my elderly parents endured for decades and losing them a little while back and being unable to help them, well I just won't go there.

It has to change.

Thanks FTS for posting this.

The disgusting treatment of kids and elderly!

I didn't read..because I am in need of a little peace at heart in these times.

But we have all witnessed the ''huge thetan in a little body'' pedophile mindset that occured in the CO$ to uses them as slaves...to disconnect them from parents care..an isolate them.

However, the late stage of life of a $cientology elderly, especially those either in the SO, or on staff, is absoluetly to make one vomit.
They uses them, and suck out of their old degraded body of the last bit of blood they can suck..and then they discard them without sorrow.

They are offloaded..rejected, sent in hiding..in a free ''charity'' elder facility..so they are not a ''liability'' for the finances of the church , neither attention seekers from productive up-tone and ethical beings (dev-t). In the event they still have an estranged family left..somewhere ..well..they may dispose of them to their attention.

This is so implanted in the culture of the cult, they don't even hide it...it can be seen on any SO complex. (although, we know they don't invvolve small kids anymore int he SO, but youth are still recruited)

Not the least, is the disgusting disregard & indifference of followers (& cruel management) who know of it and remain silent .
(I wonder how many of them have been rushed to ethics or RPF when they began to show some signs of dementia or weakness ???)

Elderly = when too degraded...To be discarded without sorrow :puke2:

The thought that comes to mind is that "on-purpose Scientologists" who are saving the planet would just see the elderly as downstat and dev-t. So why waste resources on them? The cult squeezes all the compassion out of the true believers.

As I said I will not post on this thread for a while otherwise I'll let go a huge rant, which doesn't really help.

However this needs to be seen too.

I can't.
This is my moms future too. She is 67 in the Sea Org, and knows nothing more than the Sea Org (been there for 40 plus years), and is happy to be there, working 120 hours a week. She has already had cancer once...
I have shitloads of similar stories, but today I can't.

I probably shouldn't post, because I am so emotional. And I may delete it.
Please stop pointing the finger at David Miscavige for this. This shit has been going on much longer than DM, and yes, he has made it worse. But Scientology is not fucking roses without David Miscavige.

Just one of many sad, sad stories about the elderly in the S.O. There was a guy named Paul Schobel, who was probably the best liked person on the entire base. Even RTC people liked him and they generally were ordered by guess who not to be friendly to any of the CI motherfuckers in the other orgs on the base. Everybody liked Schoebs. He was the epitome of an Australian: friendly, warm, great sense of humor, self-deprecating and otherwise, bristled under authority and spoke his mind about this and everything else. He had devoted his entire adult life to Scientology and had audited north of 30,000 hours. The only thing Schoebs had going against him was a bad body. He had kidney troubles big time and heart problems that eventually required bypass surgery. I visited him after the surgery and even then he was able to laugh about it. In his honor while working on the never-to-be-finished Dictionary Project I came up with a definition especially for him. "Thetan: a person who can't be killed but deserves to be." Around 2002 he was used up and so DM had him shipped back to Australia where he could receive care thanks to the country's universal health care. Paul was so crushed at having to leave the base that he refused to see any of his hundreds of friends who would have wanted to share a last laugh. We all have our reasons why DM must be taken out to the woodshed and given an ass-whipping but how he rewarded Schobel for decades of loyal service is right at the top of my personal list. RIP, Paul Schcbel.

Schobs was one of the most nefarious examples of this - he died pretty much still on post at AOSH ANZO and was being used right up to the end.

Same with Peter Sparshott, Harry Bloomberg - the list goes on.

The problem is also that these peeps are so ashamed of being "downstat" due to age that they help perpetuate the abuse by agreeing with it.

$cientology - eliminating compassion in all its forms wherever it can.:puke:

Getting off my soapbox, taking a break.

The time I (as a brief passage as a SOrger) witnessed those abuses toward

1) kids
2) People repf'ed sleeping on the concrete floor in the garage
3) elderly abuses

At flag, the mecca of slavery

was in the early 80's!

Ron Hubabrd was still commanding
David Miscavide didn't took over yet

Those abuses woked me up - Flag was a slavery disguised as a spiritual mecca. - I escaped.
I would later discover
all was done , accordingly to Ron the humanitarian vows (policies) in order to ensure no one would drain any money out of his scam

Uncle Ronnie - the humanitarian

All men shall be my slaves!

Thus, abuses were and are perpetrated as Hubbard planned it to be and as enforcers keep enforcing it as KSWers. (adding creative new versions)

I did a quick search and stumbled on this which I post as it's very informative. (heartbreaking though)

From 'Their Hour of Greatest Need', by Valerie Stansfield
Originally published in the Free Spirit, Vol 3 # 2

Unbelievable but true - there is a church in the United States that
refuses to succor those who are ill unto death. In their hour of
greatest need, members of the Church of Scientology, by policy and
practice are refused services, counselling or spiritual care from the
spiritual body to which they have declared their allegiance.

On Dec. 6, 1976, the church published a Policy Letter... stating:

"It shall be a Committee of Evidence offense... to accept for
processing and process any PC (parishioner):

"1) Who is terminally (fatally) ill, regardless of what the
org... may have promised or asserted. Such diseases as ad-
vanced cancer are included."

... Following the issue of this policy, the Church founder's son passed
away. No known service was held and no public official mention of the
death occured[sic]. Church members who knew the young man found out
about his death through newspapers and rumor.

Here are some of the many typical demonstrations of this policy:

Julia Salmen
started the Los Angeles branch of the Church and admin-
istered it for nearly two decades. She started many of the programs
now permanently incorporated into their Scriptures. When she knew she
was dying after a long illness several years ago, she called the
Church's Advanced Organization and asked for help. They refused to send
a minister.
Word passed among her friends and one came to counsel and
prepare her, for which she was very appreciative. After her passing,
the Church claimed that she died as a result of his faulty processing.
A paragraph was published honoring her contributions which was more than
any of the others got. No official service was held.

Grant Pool had routed on to begin the Special Briefing Course to further
his ministerial training. He had been devoted for around 30 years.
He was told he had to produce money to take a prerequisite course and
being unable to do so, as age and severe physical problems plagued him,
quietly hung around the Church unable to participate. When he died,
the organization did nothing
- his friends had a private memorial
service
for him.

Robert Oakes gave over 20 years of his life to forward and improve the
Church. When he had severe heart trouble, only his friends offered
help. At his passing only a private funeral was held. Only one Church
staff member, an old friend, attended and there was no church
officiation

and no spiritual guidance offered his grieving widow.

Lavina Timmons - this gracious former Executive of the New York C of S
for years, active for decades, developed a rash under her arm while
taking Advanced Ministerial Studies at the Church. She went to a
Doctor,
who said she had cancer. She asked the Church for help and as reply was
declared "an illegal PC," then refused further help or even further
study.
She went home and cried, passing away in 6 months with no Church
support.

Private friends gave her limited counselling and a private memorial.
She
had no family.

Idella Stone
- Over 80 years old in 1983, when she became ill she wrote
the Founder L. Ron Hubbard who ordered the Advanced Organization in
writing to give her processing (counselling) at no charge. She got
none.

Idella (Ikey) started the first center for Hubbard in the world. She
travelled and lectured for him since 1950. The newspapers gave her
death
front page exposure due to her general fame. No mention of it was made
by the Church.
When the Advanced Organization had refused her a mini-
ster
, she and her friends requested a student Minister be dispatched to
aid her - in her hours of greatest need after 35 years of devotion.
They were told it would upset the Church's plans for the students. Her
funeral also had no official Church minister present.

Luzette Sparrin - This elegant Victorian lady in her 90s - heralded as
"the oldest Minister in the Church." She was almost blind and had no
money
. To her last she was writing to Founder L. Ron Hubbard, asking
for return of funds she had loaned him when he was poor and she an
affluent opera singer.
The letters were never acknowledged. When her
house burned down in the 70's no help from the nearby Church was given
and she moved into a sleazy downtown hotel, living in such until her
final days at a welfare convalescent home.
The Church had an official
group called "The Gerus Society" which visited convalescent homes to
cheer up the non-Scientology elderly, promoting the Church's charitable
ideals. When asked to visit Luzette they refused, stating it was "not
our purpose."
Luzette had spunk, even to her last week talking of
going back on stage. No official Church service, or even mention of
her passing was ever done.

Hank Deneke
died around Christmas of 1985. He gave 23 years of his
life on staff being paid a fraction of the minimal[sic] wage. He
couldn't get money for his Advanced Levels so no spiritual help was
given. When he became terminal he was ignored. Not one staff member
attended his memorial service.

All of the above people and many other similar ones made vast contri-
butions to the Church which rejected them when they became useless.

Even where the only major contribution has been financial, Church
policy rejects them at the end. This Church believes in spiritual re-
birth, and has procedures that would better prepare people for this.
Yet it categorically withholds this care from its parishioners in their
hour of greatest need. Not only loving succor and counsel are wtih-
held, but also even a final appreciation. Can this Church be trusted
to have humanitarian intentions?

[End of article]

This is what happens to those who have dedicated their lives to Co$ when
those lives are at an end. Any questions?

There is actually some slight hope that this is improving. I have seen
in a few Co$ magazines that Jack Spears is now in LA receiving OT levels
which were rewarded to him. Jack has been a fixture at SF org since
around the 1906 Quake, possibly before. He was ancient when I met him
almost 20 years ago and I was shocked and delighted to learn he was
still
alive at all, especially since he was, like most Scientologists, a heavy
smoker. But it will take far more than one instance of decent treatment
after a life of devotion to demonstrate real change.

It has been reporter, L Ron Scrooge, approaching death, suddenly got invaded by the demons of his greedness, cruelty, predatory behavior agaist the most vulnerable and loyal people to him...He died overwhelmed by fear...and was discared without sorrow, anonymously like a homeless.

His spiritual son, is still alive and quite young... may be he has some kids, family left , siblings and friends...who will take care of him...or people who loves him????? when he gets old, sick and approach death!

I recall that in the 90's a new rundown was announced by the Cult....at least in the Pac Base area.

I believe this was called the "end of cycle rundown" and was to prepare one for death?

That's about all I know about it....

Perhaps someone else recalls this being talked about around the Complex?

Never heard anything more about it since.

I would imagine...that the rundown included signing over any assets one had...to the Cult??

Yes Phenom,

It is mentionned in the long post that the only help those guys had were from their ''presonnal friends'' $cientologist made them available and cared aboutthem.

I myself (before I definitely left) encounter a situation that proved it to be true! The CO$ discard you..only your are left with the very close friends you have to care... But..in the event they know of you are doing better\making money again..they are back very concerned with your well being....freedom...power...and knowledge....

Suckers and fuckers!
