What's new

I just watched Going Clear... why do I want Scientology in my life?

Appreciated. Today is definitely not the day for me to browse though.

I think I'll take a couple day, or week, hiatus-- and come back.

She said she was hungarian. I know a lot of polish, she didn't sound polish.

Kevin was the gent I spoke to-- I asked him beyond all beliefs of scientology that empirically I can decide he's forth fortuned, how it was possible for him to knowingly accept the teachings of someone as creepy and unbelievably deceitful as L Ron Hubbard. I asked him that even looking at his creepy smiley and the way he dodges real questions, how he could walk foot in front of foot at a church premised on his creativity. This is what I wanted to know. I wanted to explain that urge I had the other night when the title of this thread was embarrassingly posted to the people that were hurt by it. I thought Kevin might say something that made sense to me.

Kevin laughed and admitted he was a bit creepy, creepily, but because of what the church has given him he is very thankful.

Kevin has left 3 messages on my phone. My dentist, of 8 years, left me one message for a missed appointment last week. I forgot to tell them I double booked. The hungarian girl left one message. It was sweet and sincere. She wants me to know what they've made of my answers to the 200 questions. My bet is it's nothing new.

It's a sales driven organization. Staff are pushed really hard to make certain quotas.

Ok, cool. Different bot then.

Anyway, best to steer clear of them. I've seen them squeeze 20k out of less than 8 or 10 already tapped out people at their fundraisers/briefings. (my point being they're more than happy to bankrupt members)

That is all fine and good, but I would never pay for a proposition, or anything less than tangible.

I'm really disgusted. I'm glad this board exists.

I want to also add that I explained to Kevin I knew that the means of HBO were to sham the religion, and that, though persuasive, their measures were ill-rendered.

This is for full disclosure, so you understand his position.

Sure. I wouldn't suggest giving them a dime. My point was that they bleed people dry. So, it's not well and good as far as I'm concerned.

SeattleSkeptic: Your posts make sense to me today for the first time. Your arrival at ESMB was shaky, but you owe it to yourself to follow through with your own declaration of taking a day, a week, etc. Always read the fine print, always check the back story. We could all be assholes  but still be telling you the truth. Schmarmy at the Seattle org could seem like the nicest guy and lead you into the sewer. Just look after yourself and do your due diligence. No impulse buys and you'll be fine.

What an elegant, beautiful, enlightened, and supremely intelligent person she was. And she pretty much sums up what I believe now. I only wish that I had believed it much younger.

Never trust a scientologist.

Without a doubt. You aren't all assholes. In fact, I think there might only be one or two board-wide, which says a lot for online message boards (this isnt my first rodeo-- I used to game way back when and had a pretty significant presence on the community's message board, hence my understanding of the logistics and references-- btw -- I'm not a fucking troll). To me it seems like a devout group only exposing of scientologic beliefs and true dismissal of those in the same.

Thanks but I'd never give my money up -- it's been hard earned.

I just feel lost and not important. Not that joining an evil cult is a good idea because of that... but that's why I am intrigued. I know it's stupid. I pretty much came here for people to tell me that.

You're only lost if you can't ask directions.

Every living thing is important, that includes you. There's lot of shit in the world that does not include living.

Be curious, keep an intelligence about skepticism, and hold onto yer heart mon!

Yes it is.

And there, I told you that, :)

Also, I'm just catching up with this thread, and am answering a few pages back, but hey, its probably what I wanted to say to ya anyhow, annnnnnd~ :welcome: to esmb too!

:drama:

There are a lot of books out now by people who have gone through the experience of scientology, many stories of the experience people have had in scientology, and many blogs you can visit for daily goings on in scientology. Hold up on any decisions for a while and read up on it for a few months. Scientology will still be there waiting for you in a few months time and you can give yourself some time to take it all in. Studying scientology via the internet and taking part in the threads here and on the other blogs might prove to be enough of being a part of a community that it will satisfy that craving and you will get a very broad view of what scientology is all about.

The problem is that if you accept scn's proposition that they have the only answer, they have you. You will be shocked at what you will do. It is insidious brainwashing and it starts with the questionnaire you took. I was a class v auditor and an executive at the largest non-Sea Org scn group ever. I know what I am talking about. People here are trying to keep what happened to them from happening to anyone else.

As far as the troll thing goes, the board was trolled the day before by someone who behaved similarly to you early posts here. I'll accept that you are not a troll. I just can't stress enough to flee from scn. Get a puppy instead.

Sure. We're agreed. I'm not sure why you keep saying "but"...

Because now he's being condescending.

Seattleskeptic....I don't like you. I don't like you one bit. You're like an annoying little fly who keeps getting in the potato salad. You may not be a troll in your heart of hearts, but you're one of the worst trolls in my three year history here.

Now hopefully you'll just buzz off and find something to do in that big city of yours.

(I'm really trying not to say what I really want to say...it's so hard... :melodramatic: )

God I miss the 20th century. That time made sense to me.

It almost feels as if we are regressing as a society, from the religious nuts who took over the libertarian wing of the Republican Party to the Supreme Court Hobby Lobby decision. But actually a lot of this stuff was set in motion in 1964 with Barry Goldwater's campaign. I'm reading a lot about the roots of the current religious rightward swing in American society, maybe I'll start a thread some time with quotes and thoughts from some of the books I'm reading. I'm Gen-X, but I bet a lot of you Boomers remember some of the little things that were actually the first pebbles rolling down from this avalanche first hand.

Jerry Falwell did not come out of a vacuum.
