What's new

I just watched Going Clear... why do I want Scientology in my life?

Please. I have an appt tomorrow with the church. Can someone call me?

Sure. What's your number? You can PM it to me. Just so we're transparent here - you won't get mine in return - it will be blocked.

No-- I get that its awful and fucked up. I think I'm so attracted to it because of its secrets. There is so much under covers, deceit, lies, and betrayal. That makes me feel like a bad human though. Did you gain anything from it besides a hatred towards it?

Yes. It makes me incredibly sad for all the lives that are wasted, families that are harmed, money that is sucked away to support Miscavige.

I don't see how it can really be all that scary. I take the muscle tactics they used, that i watched in the documentary, with a grain of salt. I can't imagine people actually following people. Am I daft or was it a bit dramatic?

No. It's real. Think third grade bully on steroids, with lots of money and a good squad to carry out his commands, and no playground monitor. Or worse yet, the playground monitor is paid off.

Thank you, so much. As soon as I started taking that test online I searched for a chat and found this board. I am just really struggling with the fact there is a cult out there that is THAT persuasive and really makes people give up thousands of dollars without batting an eye.

Hmmmm .... is part of the attraction that you want to be able to have that same kind of power? And maybe their secrets at the top levels will give it to you? No pain, no gain and all that kind of thing? I guess that might make some kind of, possibly twisted, sense. My understanding of spiritual power that benefits the user most in the long run is the kind that is built on compassion and ethics. Sure, manipulation and exploitation might get you somewhere but if you don't like the person you see in the mirror day after day those "gains" will seem pretty petty.

Okay. I have read all the posts on this thread and I am done. You have had counselling and possibly been prescribed pharmaceuticals. Dude. You are an illegal PC. All you will ever get is basic courses, appeals for IAS donations, and lots of sec checking. With your history you will never ever get on the confidential OT levels. Never. I'm done with this. Good bye.

Who remembers this little bit of "tech"? I think it was in the "free dissemination course" that was available to PCs at Flag back in the late '80s or thereabouts.

"How to sell a motorcycle" I think it was called.

Anyway, the gist of it was something like this:

Kid: "I hear you have a bike for sale"

Seller: "yeah"

Kid: "how much is it?"

Seller: "you probably can't afford it...besides it's dangerous."

Kid: "can I see it?"

Seller: "Oh alright then then if you're that curious - it's out back."

Kid: "WOW - look at those exhaust pipes!"

Seller: "Yeah - they'll burn the crap outta your legs for sure."

Kid: "I WANT it - how much did you say?"

Seller: "The F'n thing will likely kill you...but...how much money did you say you had....well, for you, I reckon I could let it go for that."

Get the idea?

That's pure Hubbard.

I'm so happy I slept last night and didn't see this thread :melodramatic:

I said pretty much all I had to say with my first post. Dude needs to titrate his meds if he can read this site and watch the documentary and still want to wander into an org for anything but J&D.

Speaking of which, any German or Italian Exes out there? PM me.

I won't be surprised if the Co$ experiences the influx of new people they claim to expect as a result of the documentary... BECAUSE, the doc and all the buzz after it will make people curious and some of those curious will go see for themselves what is really inside. Take an intro course, see the intro movies, or something, just to get their own first-hand look.

But all of those will start out as skeptics, or people who are looking to further mock it, or just seeking "thrills," and they will give the staff a hard time, asking all kinds of troublesome questions about what they've seen, making accusations, etc. A few (I predict VERY few) might even "bite" and continue, while (I predict) most who do this will come out and tell the story of their experience with lots of lulz.

And an unintended consequence of this will be that these new people will make the staff, who until now have been "ignoring" the documentary, aware of what is presented in it, and perhaps make at least some of them question WHY they continue in the cult. You know that many staff are already suffering "cognitive dissonance", and meeting a lot of very informed "wogs" who will let them know that the outside is not as dangerous and horrible as they've been led to believe could be that straw, you know the one...

"New People In" could turn out to be a nightmare.

I predict the cult will see an influx of new people...and they will all be like the dude that started this thread, someone looking for attention and drama.

Edit...or guys in love with Tom Cruise.

Sadly I believe you are right. But it will be a problem for the cult in the long run because the newbies will be unbalanced. There will be some, ahh, incidents.

They'll bug you here and there when they're having a slow week. But you're not a high value target and OSA is in a condition of overwhelm. Ignore them and ignore their occasional texts or calls. You'll be fine. Most of us who get Fair Gamed have been targetted for a reason.

awwwwww

Seattle skeptic, lots of good points here. You should listen.

Cult is bad news.

If you're interested in Scientology, why not just read some books on your own? And both Self Analysis and Handbook for Preclears have Scientology auditing processes you can do by yourself.

By the way, better to get book from eBay or abebooks.com. You really don't want to be on the cult's mailing lists.

If you go, they'll love bomb ya. They do that at the beginning. That's how they get people in. Later, as your involvement increases, they ramp up the micromanaging and interference. And the constant hitting people up for money. And when I say "constant", that's the understatement of the year.

I'm in Seattle. If you wanna chat, can call me at two oh six nine three eight three three oh seven, evenings.

I swear on everything. I am not an attention whore OR drama queen.

Its funny you say that because I'm actually titrating my buspar down from 60 to 20 mg hopefully to none.

edit: also, thats the only psychotic I'm on.

When you said evenings did you mean only call then?

I just answered 200 questions to schedule an appt?

That questionairre you filled out is totally made up and bogus. You won't learn anything real or helpful about your personality or intelligence from it. It will be used to manipulate your feelings, by a sales person who will "find your ruin" and convince you that you need Scientology to fix it. They will point out your shortcomings, according to that test, and then tell you that "Scientology can handle that", or words to that effect, and then try and sell you a service.

If you need help with some aspect of your life, contact your county's mental health or social services department and get plugged into some real world help. Don't get involved in a space alien/pseudo psychology CULT run by a criminal organization, and make things worse for yourself!!!

The whole thing is a fraud and a con game, engineered to get you involved, get your money and/or nearly free labor. Don't waste your time, your life or your resources on this!

You have been warned...don't be stupid!

Examine your motivations!

I quote here another member, Mike Laws, who posted this on another thread:

"Simple matrix on Scientology membership motivations?
I like being able to simply describe complex concepts. Something that has been very difficult to me to constantly and accurately describe in a simple fashion was why people got into Scientology and why they stayed in. I could understand, having been in, but it was hard to describe to others never involved.

This concept evolved about 3-4 days after watching "Going Clear", and I have discussed it with perhaps 15 people who were in, and a half dozen never in, and it seems to hold up, would appreciate your thoughts and comments.

It is based around three general ideas, first what got someone into Scientology, and the same three concepts applied to what kept them in.

Getting in:

1. Sociological; Born in, family got in, spouse or partner in ... primary involvement because it seemed like the thing to do, or they had to get involved to maintain some relationship they cared greatly about.

In this one you wind up with second or third generation born in, people like Rinder, Devo, Me. It also includes people like another friend who DONATED millions, made it up to OT VIII ... he had some good times, but would never have gotten deeply involved, much less stuck it out were it not for his certainty that his wife would have left him if he quit, and he completely loved his wife.

2. Some sort of personal gain or benefit, trying to fix a ruin, or gain super POWERS.

This would include any one brought in through Narconons, for example, or any of the institutionalized Div 6 sales methods ... testing, ruins, etc. It would also include those ENTERING for super powers as described in books, promotional material, lectures, personal stories, etc.

3. Wanting TO CHANGE the world, save the world, make the world a better place. I don't know how many people got into Scientology because of this motivation, but I am sure some did. I think this is more what kept a lot of people, especially staff.

Staying in:

1. Sociological: Fear of disconnection, not wanting to loose people, enjoying the friendships and camaraderie, it being the only world known or comfortable with (long timers), or fear of the outside world.

2. Personal Gain: In quest for results to fix a ruin, gain greater skills or abilities, wanting to do business or MAKE MORE MONEY through the tech or network (could also be sociological), looking for the illusive super power or exteriorization, or whatever.

3. Save the world, help people, make a difference. At least for a lot of my friends and myself, it is what kept us in however we got involved."
