I quit CoS

Alan (that's his username) definitely was in Scn, and I think he seems like a really neat person.

That's right. Our ESMB member Alan is the founder of Knowledgism and an old timer "Tech Master". He was on the original SHSBC with LRH and contributed to the tech of Scientology. He is known to be the source of Listing and Nulling in auditing. LRH claimed to be the only source of all Scientology but this is simply a lie. Many great people contributed to the tech that LRH issued and copyrighted it under his name.

Welcome to the board Emerald! :happydance:

Wow! Thank you all for the welcome. So many responses just in a day!
Welcome!

I don't know how to respond with quotes of previous posts yet. I need to browse around this forum and learn.

Click on the "Quote" icon at the bottom right of the post you want to quote in your reply. The entire post will appear in your reply box. EDIT IT! Delete the bits you aren't commenting on. Otherwise it can be annoying for others to have to read that entire post again just to see a one line comment at the end like "I agree".

If you want to break up the quote, like I did above, you have to do it manually by typing {QUOTE} and {/QUOTE} around the bits you want to appear in the neat little quote boxes, but use square brackets [] and not curly ones {}.

If you want to quote from different posts in your reply, see the thread on "How to do Multiquotes": http://www.forum.exscn.net/showthread.php?t=6682

Click the "Preview Post" icon before you post, and if it's not right, then edit it to fix it. Sometimes one puts an extra {/QUOTE} tag (with square brackets) in or something by mistake. You can also edit your post after you have sent it, for up to 24 hours. If you do it in the first ten minutes, it won't even show any signs of editing. Click on the "Edit" icon at the bottom right of the post once you have made it. That icon will disappear after the 24 hours.

..... I decided to quit not due to one or a few recent incidents, but due to the cumulative experience of all my time in the church. I had disagreements with many things right when I started with the CoS, but I ignored them......

Ditto Emerald...ex public scn here too.......I just ignored my gut feelings from day one--I think I was blown away by how it was 'apparently' so organized, that there were books of knowledge...among other things---I love to learn and it seemed they had so much I never knew about......

I was wrong.

Welcome !!!

I look forward to reading more of your stories, Emerald.

Know that it really is a safe environment here to post and to talk without having to worry about your 'comm cycle' or your 'tr's, etc, etc...:eyeroll:

Hello to all at ESMB.

I quit CoS just recently :) .

I concluded based on my observations and experiences that I am not going to gain anything from the church of scientology, though I still like scientology and scientology still makes sense to me (as much as I've studied so far.) But I took a very long time to realize what's going on in the "church".

Anyway, I am glad that I'm out.

Thanks a bunch Paul! You helped me post this reply with multi-quotes. Your video was the best idea to explain. And yes, I've done that too - the webcam focussing on monitor creating a "closed circuit" (can I call it that?) between webcam and monitor.

Thanks Mark and Thetan, I will check out Knowledgism on the website. BTW I've been studying Idenics lately. I like it very much. I also had a few Idenics sessions from Mike Goldstein.
And yes, I've read about and heard from some people here about the contributions to the tech.

I agree. But I had nothing against all the books of knowledge(may be coz I've not read all the books yet) - my disagreements are mostly with their policies and stats being the motivation.

I look forward to reading more of your stories, Emerald. -Michelle
Someday I will. I like your footnote (Be aware of your breathing...) and I've started practising it.:)

I hear ya! Good for you!
Thanks Fluffy.

Does anyone know where the original version of basic books are available? I mean the version before even the first "corrections" were made to them sometime in 80's I guess.

I have the original version of Science of Survival. I would like to get others if possible.

Thanks!

Check local libraries, they usually sell books they don't want. There are online used booksellers as well, like http://www.abebooks.com/ for one.

You can find lots on eBay, very cheap. But what is very interesting is that you can get the full shrink-wrapped 2007 18-book package of "The Basics" there for about $40 or $50 plus shipping. They are so oversold they are almost having trouble giving them away.

I did a careful side-by-side comparison of the 2007 edition of Scn 8-8008 with the 1990/1 edition. The results are here: http://www.forum.exscn.net/showthread.php?t=2678

I've seen various editions of the books since getting into Scn in 1972. My honest opinion, assuming that the other books are on a par with the one I examined carefully, is that the 2007 editions are far better than any other. Really. It is unfortunate that so much PR and bullshit spews forth from DM and other CofS spokesholes that the odd bit of truth doesn't get a look-in and gets dismissed automatically. In this case, I think DM was perhaps speaking the truth, uncomfortable as that may be for some to accept, and I find it hard enough. :)

Anyway, my suggestion is that if you want useful Scn books, get the current ones, very very cheap on eBay (in the US, anyway). If you want old editions for the sentimental value, or something, by all means skip the new ones.

Thanks Div6 and Paul, for the info on old version of books.

I have 2007 version books. I bought them from the church last year. I also have the version that was before 2007. I would like to the original versions now - I'd like to compare the versions myself; and to frst unerstand them from the original versions.

This was my first thread here in August 2008. However, I would like to post here to let all know that I have now changed my user id to "rizbash". It was "emerald" until now.
