Boy, the search for enlightenment really is what was going on for a lot of us in the early 70's. Almost everybody I knew in Davis were at the mission 'cuz they wanted to go beyond LSD. And when I was on staff at FCDC I always really hated when Comm Course students would get sucked into joining the Sea Org.

Great reminiscence, really well written. I'm waiting for the next episode.

Great Story BarMoshiach, I look forward to hearing more. What was Capt Bill really like? He sounds like a real character.

If only I had hid in the closet 20 years ago!

And please, no jokes about me actually being in a metaphorical one. :grouch:

I remember visiting the Geltman's centre about that time. Bill Robertson was there also, with Arthur Hubbard.

They sent out for hamburgers. I remember Bill ate about seven, all by himself. He was a real "salad dodger".

HCO Bring Order

It was 1974 and time for another big NY "event." The travelling speaker in this case was Alex Sibirski, and again it was in a hotel ballroom rented for just two or three hours. Maybe the sour taste of the previous event, or maybe the fact that it was on a Saturday morning, but for some reason only a couple of hundred showed up. By the time things got started, time was already short.

Siberski was on stage, not really far into his presentation yet, when the sound of arguing came from the back. The hotel manager had another event booked, and they were ready to come in, as it was now their time slot. If they'd only understood that we were gathering for the Purpose of Clearing the Planet, they surely would have deferred and rescheduled their wedding or bar-mitzvah for another day.

Alex pointed majestically from the podium at the plump, balding man in the business suit. "HCO, bring order!" Several Sea Org members physically escorted the hotel manager out of his ballroom. I believe his feet were off the floor. As Siberski continued his talk, I didn't think this would fly.

Just minutes later, a contingent of NY's Finest, uniformed police, arrived to clear the ballroom. This took very few minutes. Considering the disappointing number of attendees, it was decided to bring the event to the NY Org courseroom, a few blocks away. In impressive leadership fashion, every staff member was mobilized. David Light handed me a 3'X4' photo of Ron to bring to the Org, which I did.
